Oh, I forgot as well! Don't feel obliged to do them, I understand that you might be busy.

I've been experimenting with a new design for Itinerary that addresses most of my concerns with the current website. Also, I would like to expand the scope of this project to go beyond game jams.

Here is how the homepage looks so far:

Notable changes:
  • This new website is written in Next.js for several reasons.
    - The React ecosystem is vast and thus allows for faster development, especially when it comes to asking for help from others
    - Next.js allows me to have the code for the backend API in the same folder as the frontend, meaning that I would no longer need an external Node.js + Express.js backend. Therefore, API requests would be more instantaneous, and I could host the website using just one service (eg. Vercel) instead of having to use two, possible separate services for it (eg. I'm currently using Vercel to deploy my frontend, Replit to host my backend, and Cloudflare to manage everything DNS)
    - More smaller benefits.
  • I redesigned the look and feel of the site but I kept some design aspects from Scratch.
  • I named the project “Scratch Incubator”, though I might change this name in the future.

Please do let me know your opinions and whether you would like to see me move forward with this new design!
Noice. Link??? Maybe call it Play? Also another project idea could be a collaborative Git based scratch version control with PRs.

It's not live on the web yet.

I will open-source it soon!

Chiroyce wrote:

It is, that's why this new project is using Next.js. The reason why I use Replit for the current Itinerary is that it is the only suitable option I found for a standalone Node.js backend.

Vercel can't run expressJS with full-uptime?

Vercel isn't supposed to run express, and it doesn't have full uptime, it only runs on serverless functions, it won't be always on

Indeed… I’ve already tried hosting Itinerary’s backend on Vercel, but the results were disappointing to say the least. Anyway, since this future project is written in Next.js, it should work flawlessly on Vercel.

You could also look into Railway.app. I use it to host an umami analytics instance (for free).

I saw that earlier. I think before I switch hosting I should get a domain
