It's not like my copy of World of Goo on my Wii is going to be erased from existence

Also it's on Steam and consoles so it's not like you need a Netflix subscription to play the game

I agree, this is dumb, but guess what? Nintendo is making a sequel to this game on the switch which I heard in a Nintendo direct from this year.
