Exactly. This isn't your website. This is a service given COMPLETELY for free that everyone can use. It isn't your RIGHT to have follower numbers. Just be glad that scratch still exists and they don't make it a $5 subscription or something and MOVE ON.

Actually, that's a good idea! I would happily pay five dollars a year for Scratch. And this would probably get the people who troll off of Scratch, at least for the most part.

Although that might make banning a bit of a grey area. xP

Fighting destroys the community. This update doesn't.

1. You're just saying that for the sake of winning

Think of it this way: Let's say the iPhone 6 explodes when you turn it on. If no one fights or tell Apple, well, it could lead to conflict.
Just like this. If no one tells them that the update is no good, then it could lead to conflict, like drama, hate, people leaving, etc.

Dear Scratch Team,
Please do not take this message personally. I have tried to get my point across by posting my honest opinion on this issue. I am sorry for the fact that it is slightly “undiplomatic”, but I did not want to sugarcoat the issue and miss the point of the problem entirely. I can edit any part of this post that you find offensive. Thank you for reading.

This update is bad for many reasons:

1. I've spent hours and hours for 2 years and 7 months on making high quality projects and many friends. Are you saying that I don't deserve to see how many comments I've gotten, or how many friends I have at a glance? You might as well make this a 100% socialist Scratch and remove the love-its and favorites too. And while you're at it you could get rid of the front page, and you could get rid of the views, and then you could make each page only load one comment at a time, just so that others wouldn't feel sad when they saw a project with more comments then theirs…

No. I mean no, seriously. I'm not trying to be rude or anything, but really? I've earned every last follower fair and square. If anybody thinks otherwise they can unfollow me now. Because if I can't even see how many comments my projects have, I think I'll quit and bring my programming talents elsewhere. At some point you just have to accept the fact that it doesn't have to be equal.

2. If it really is all about programming, why do you heed the complaints of Scratchers who badger you about Add Everything studios, or “Unfairness”. Like seriously, does it really matter if your project is in a few studios? So you removed the manager and project count from studios. Great, now if I ever want to see how many projects I have in one of my perfectly legitimate studios, I have to count them by hand! That's a huge waste of time! Is Scratch slowly being overtaken by a Scratch Team who regulates everything a user does and says?

3. It doesn't even do anything. Follow for follows will still continue. In fact, I bet that if I offered free F4Fs on this thread, I'd get lots of takers. Besides, if the number doesn't matter, who cares if somebody gets a few non-legitimate follows? Spam isn't destructive or anything, just annoying. That's why I allow it on my profile, just to show that it isn't that bad. In fact, anybody that is reading this thread, FEEL FREE TO SPAM ALL YOU WANT ON MY PROFILE. (Within reason, of course.) I will look at anything you post, if I can.

————————————————————————————-A very, very, very disappointed and upset Superdoggy.

Honestly, I rather have a profile filled up with “follow for follow” comments rather than no comments at all

Hey everyone,

You might notice your profile page looks a little bit different. Profile pages no longer display the number of Followers and Following. (You can still view this information by clicking the ‘View All’ button on the Followers / Following panel.) The number of profile comments are no longer displayed too.

Why do this? We want to make sure people see someone’s projects, studios, and connections and not focus too much on the numbers. After all, it doesn’t matter if you have 10 followers or 10,000. Scratch is a place for creating, collaborating, and supporting fellow Scratchers.

The Scratch Mentors put together an awesome remix project about “What is the meaning of followers?” http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/25999074/ Check it out and see how other Scratchers think about followers! Feel free to share your thoughts too!

It's not that i want a take a side, but all around Scratch i have seen Scratchers disagreeing and agreeing about if they like this update or not,so i'm just going to say this.I don't think this is the best update that the scratch team has done.

The Scratch Team made the update for a reason -a good reason in my opinion- we should embrace it. One more click won't do anyone any harm.

xP but how many extra clicks does it take to find out the comment number?

Edit: that sounds a bit edgy, but I assure you it's supposed to be a slightly pointed joke.
Why do you need to see your comment number? I understand that it is a big diference, but what does a comment number give you?

I'd like to know how many I have so that when/if I need to reread or find a comment, I know where it is.

Also, comment numbers aren't inherently bad. I wonder why they were removed anyway?

Some of us just like to keep count of them. Sometimes if I'm on the wrong account I would've taken a look at the comment count to see if somebody may have posted lower down. No point scrolling a bazillion miles downward if there aren't any new replies to a comment string. (This has actually happened quite a few times. Including comment strings between other Scratchers/admins that I wanted to stay up to date with. )

I actually like “1000th comment” or likewise when it comes to my profile. I like to hit milestones.

This might be a baseless assumption, but I'd guess that the ST still has some way of seeing the comment count. Us Scratchers obviously do not. xP that's not even just hiding the number temporarily. I'd at least still like some way to see the comment #.

If you don't agree with the scratch team and feel like you could do better, go ahead and make your own drag and drop programming language where the follower count is shown. If you aren't going to do that, then don't complain.

That doesn't add to the conversation. That's just trolling.

If I don't agree with the Scratch Team, I'll just use an un-regulated programming language like C#.
So why don't you then?

If I disagree with the Scratch team to the point of quitting

Which I don't, yet.
Saying you might leave won't make us change our minds just to keep you here

I don't base my Scratching off of your opinion. You can change your mind or not.
And you Scratching based off of my opinion is even slightly related to my post because…?

To clarify, you saying something along the lines of “if I disagree too much, I quit”. Nobody will change the rules and/or website just because of one user quitting.

Quite honestly, if your logic is circular or you keep returning to the same arguments, I don't feel this argument is worth my (or anyone's) time (although I can't make that judgment for others)

Also, so I don't have to quote your post, Superdoggy, I'll say this…
Asking whether someone listened to your argument is a bad debating technique, as they pretty obviously have had to read it
Being able to see your follower count pretty naturally makes you feel good, even if you deny it. Is there a reason BESIDES it making you feel good that you want to bring it back? Don't say that you have the “right” to, as first, you have no rights here besides what the ST gives you, and second, that's a instrumental goal, not an intrinsic goal. It's instrumental in making you feel good

Oops.

I was in a bit of a rush when I posted that. Ouch. Should've read it over again.

That post…well…why don't I delete it. xP so I did.

Now, what I meant to say was that since I've been actively participating in the site and putting lots of work into my projects, I feel that I should be able to see my follower count at-a-glance, or even my profile comment number at all.

I'd like to point out, that while the Scratch Team does work extremely hard to keep things running (Thanks!) they benefit from active hard-working users too. On their Scratch statistics page, they show the number of users and projects, and I'm guessing that they're quite proud of it. And should be, as they created a wonderful programming language that is a perfect tool for creating amazing things.

However, what would the site be without any projects? Without any users? With “zero” followers? Would anybody join a site that had been abandoned a year ago, with no active users and no community?

So the users do contribute too. They work hard too. So you've got to imagine that it would be disappointing for certain users when the Scratch Team removes certain (helpful) numbers because they don't think that we're being responsible enough for them. (This is not a Straw Man, Lightnin. xD they were removed because you thought they were being mistreated)

So why can't some famous users (who have obviously worked very hard to obtain their fame) be able to have their follow count “on display” for others to see? Often enough we've earned them.

Those who quit Scratch aren't always wrong. Some move on, of course, but others quit when they think that something is outweighing all of the hard work that the ST put into this wonderful programming tool. Sometimes it's a rule, or a ban, or a troll. Sometimes it's agenda-pushing *cough cough*. But while this is an amazing tool and an amazing site and a wonderful community, sometimes you just have to say that “it's too socialist” or “there's something wrong”. If these stack up enough and the Scratch Team doesn't listen to the community, sadly, people are going to leave.

Speaking of which, somebody mentioned a “Scratch Walkout”. I won't say who, and it was mostly in the form of a joke, but I'm just putting it out there to show that I'm not making things up.

-Superdoggy
First: Don't use a “slippery slope” argument - removing follower numbers is NOT removing all projects and users xD

Second:
Yay, I can brag since I'm “famous” and you're not, and I've worked so hard to earn my X followers!

Yeah, that's called bragging, and that is definitely NOT going to be allowed on Scratch.

No, it's called jealousy. I'm not bragging when I say I worked hard and earned my 1100+ followers. If I say I worked hard to earn my followers, and you say “but I worked hard too, stop bragging”, then that's jealousy over the followers that I EARNED.

Saying that I worked hard to earn my followers is NOT, I repeat NOT bragging. xP

That's bragging, no matter what you say. That's like, say, Bill Gates telling someone on the streets “Hey, I'm rich! I worked hard to get billions of dollars!” That's still bragging, unless you're not proud of that number… http://prntscr.com/4tf1sd
