I read the entire book series in fourth grade, and the last in fifth (it wasn't out until then). I enjoyed them and laughed, but they were the last 21st century book I've read until now. My favorite book was probably the 11th or 13th.

I read them all ages ago. Yes, it's OK to have some sort of mystery for the readers (The sugar bowl, V.F.D etc.) but oh no Daniel Handler had to go too far and there was all that ‘Snicket Fortune’ thing. I think the series could have been a bit better in my opinion. We never really found out what happened to Quigley. And the mysteries were never resolved.

To put it simply, it's about these three kids whose parents die in a house fire and they go to live with some guy named Count Olaf who tries to steal their fortune in multiple ways. In each book they move somewhere else but Olaf keeps screwing things up for them.

I just loved reading those… And once you read the autobiography, All The Wrong Questions, and The Beatrice Letters, all the mysteries that weren't really solved just answer themselves. I'm still working on a few, though.

I actually used to read these alot in Year 5 (I guess that's 5th grade in other countries?) I got up to the Horrid Hospital (whatever the name of the hospital one is) before i lost interest. Eh, i guess my favourite is that Village one. It really caught me off guard.
