I've never put much effort into creating a fictional language, but I have made up a few words.

A fictional alphabet I've always found really interesting is the Daedric alphabet from The Elder Scrolls video game series.

I've been thinking about scripts for languages (typically these are called “conlangs”). My signature is a form of alphabet - hang on, let me decode it (I forgot

) - it reads “etaoin shrdlu”

An important thing to think about is what your language will look like on the outside: contrast my signature image with Scar. Big difference, huh? I can see a few different categories - open and rounded, stark and square, somewhat oriental, etc. It's important to pick the right one - my sig won't pair well with an ancient civilization unless you have a really, really good reason

Asemic writing is also an interesting study - meaningless doodles that look somewhat like writing.
