Many people say this could be abused, which is true, but maybe the block could act as a report. Where when you report somebody, and it checks out, you could also check a box that says: “Block user?”

Fun_Cupcake_i81: Well then if you didn't want it back maybe you need to time travel to last year and fix that

Oh wait if you could time travel I think we all know exactly when you would go-

I support doing this, with a few additional changes: Number one, you should probably make it so they can't see your profile, projects, comments or anything else, with the same for you. Because this could easily be used to say mean things or spread rumours about somebody on somebody's profile, and that person would not get to do anything about it. Second, there should be a ‘Block user’ button above or below the ‘Follow user’ button, and then you have to submit a quick reason of why you are blocking them so that Scratch Team knows why.
If you do this, it will be very helpful! Thank you!

why not. support, but somebody might block a bunch of people because they don't wish to communicate with them, and get banned for mass reporting.

Yup. They shouldn't mass-report people they don't like. Just like you can't go to someones profile and say how much you hate them without getting that comment removed

Try to refrain from saying, ‘No support’. It comes off as extremely negative. “The forums are for criticism! Don't post it you don't want it!” Agreed. But I never said that you should agree with everyone. No suggestion will ever be perfect
What sounds more constructive?
“No support, people would spam with it”
“This would lead to a lot of spam, since people can't get away from it. Not to mention, it might upset a few people with the way it's implemented”

In #1, you didn't help OP at all. You said you didn't like it, and why. Nothing else. Not even what was causing the issue of spam
In #2, you pointed out the flaws and the root causes of them. Flaws shouldn't always get a suggestion absolutely ignored

And simply supporting doesn't always help either. It's not a voting system, it's improving your ideas. There's going to be cons, there's going to be flaws, and that's the point of the suggestions. No suggestion is ever 100% perfect in any way
Here are some things you can look out for:
-Are there any flaws/cons that haven't been addressed or fixed?
-Is this idea fully flushed out? Or are there some questions you can ask?
-Are there any flaws that you know how to fix or do you know how to flush something out a bit more?
-Is there anyone else who is confused and needs some clarification?

If you don't have to do any of these, then you can move on!

Is a suggestion unable to be added because it's just impossible? Point out why and have them decide what to do next
But still, try not to say ‘no support’

Honestly, I operate under the idea that people should have the freedom to block whoever they want for whatever reason, it could seem insignificant to you but a big deal to them. I don't think people should be forced to justify their reason to the ST. Plenty of social media websites allow you to block whoever without any reporting. I do think there should be a limit in place where you cannot block, say, more than 10 people a day or week to prevent trolls.

what if people don't know it blocks and reports and block people they don't wish to interact with
Then… They don't interact with them?

You choose if it's just a report or if it's both

And if they don't want to interact, then it's all good

If someone is being disrespectful, then you should let ST know instead of just blocking. That doesn't solve the issue. If you just dislike the person, why? There isn't a good reason to block someone on here. on other social media websites, people can post varying opinions and it's easier to harass someone. If you just block them, others will become subject to their harassment

But njtacogirl isn't talking about people being rude to them, they're just saying that you may not like someone for various reasons and that it'd be better just to block them, instead of trying to explain yourself to the ST and reporting them

There are multiple reasons to block someone. Maybe there are just some people who you have a tough time being with, and the stuff they do isn't breaking any rules. Maybe someone did something to you IRL or on another platform. That isn't enough to report them here. In my case, I know a few people who I've had bad experiences with off-site and on-site. Anything that any of us did isn't against the Community Guidelines, but it'd just be easier for all of us if there was an option to not see each other.

I was thinking the same thing, unfortunately it doesn't look like the ST plans on doing anything about issues that aren't directly violating the CGs, even if it makes being on the site a negative experience

Paddle might be right about that, but the old system that reports stuff and contact us are basically too slow for them to stop anything showing publicly, in other words.

He did mention that they were going to start planning on testing new systems and other software for the website, so it would be pretty neat.
