Is Something Not Posting/Saving/Loading? Read This Before Making a Topic.

There have been a lot of posts in the bugs and glitches forum saying, “something won't save.” or “something won't load.” There are so many of these topics that they interfere with the other bug reports.

Is there a topic like this in the bugs and glitches category? Probably. Did I find one? Nope.

The scratch team is well aware that things fail to save and load, and there is a good explanation:
People are bored. There is quarantine and nobody can go out in public so people are bored. They are seeking entertainment. They come to scratch. With more people saving and loading projects, and more people doing social actions and changing cloud data, and more people posting comments and discussion posts, with more server traffic overall, the server is being constantly hammered with requests. Sometimes it is being asked to do too much, so it won't be able to post your comment or save your project or send your report.

This is not a bug or problem with scratch, it's server traffic. The scratch team is probably working on improving scratch servers. Please don't make forum topics because the server is overloaded with requests.

An exception to this rule is if there is a certain trigger which you can successfully recreate multiple times waiting a couple hours between each attempt. Then you may be finding a real bug, which you can then make a bug report topic to report. “my project won't save pls help ST” is not a valid bug report and will cause nothing but a clogged forum topic display.

Also check the following if you can't save a project:
-Are you signed into the account which you're making the project with in all scratch tabs? sign in to the account you're making the project on in another tab and it will save.
-Did you upload a large audio file or GIF recently? delete or trim it to make the project save.
-Did you upload many medium size audio and/or image files in a short amount of time? Only load a few at a time.
-Do you have poor wifi connection? Your loaded project won't be effected but it may have trouble saving. Check your wi-fi connection and try again.
-Do you have many tabs open? Your computer may be unable to transfer that much data.
-If your project is a lot bigger than the average project, in particular if it contains lots of frame by frame animation, download the project. if its file size is over 50 MB (megabytes), you have reached the maximum file size for a scratch project. Try finding a good stopping point for it, then continue it in a part two.
-Have you used the “run without screen refresh” button on a custom block by mistake? this can really goof up a project.
If all else fails, download the project and upload it when the servers are working better.
To learn about downloading a project, read this scratch wiki page.

In conclusion, don't make topics because something did not save/load/post. The server is getting lots of traffic and there may be other explanations for why something isn't posting/saving/loading. I believe this topic will cut down on the reports for this clogging the forums. If you have any questions, please reply!

Thanks! It would be a lot more helpful as a sticky.

Good stuff, however, I would mention some more things.

I think I remember seeing that there isn't a project size limit, but the editor will crash if you go too high. I'm not sure where I found this, so I would hold off on including it until I find and confirm the source.

The scratch wiki says there is. The project crashes rather than telling you you can't do animaore if you go over that amount, yes, but there really is a specific max file size.

The “file size limit” that you cite is no longer true and has not been true since Scratch 2.0. This topic contains information about the current size limits. These limits explain issues with large WAV files and whatnot.

And by the way, where did you read that the size limit was 50 MB?
