Actually Cola's name comes from the term
Exactly.
You arent understanding what I'm saying. I meant the term came first and Coca-Cola got its name from it. Also Cola own Sprite and Pepsi sucks.
1. Still no reason to call every soda “coke”. Imagine this scenario: “Hey, I want an orange Fanta coke with extra ice”. That’s called a Spezi in Germany!

2. You take that back what you said about Pepsi…

Pepsi is to Coke as Sprite is to (Schweppes) lemonade. If the superior alternative is available, why drink the inferior?

What is a generic term for a carbonated beverage?
(I.e Soda, Pop, Coke, etc.)
What do you call a long sandwich that contains cold cuts, lettuce, etc?
(I.e hoagie, sub/subway, etc.)
How do you pronounce pecan?
How do you pronounce bag?
What do you call it when it rains while the sun is still shining?
(I.e sunshower, etc.)
What do you call a rubber soled shoe worn in gym class?
(I.e sneaker, gym shoes, tennis shoes, etc.)
What do you call a long road that many cars drive on?

1. Soda
2. Sub
3. Pee-can (I get some flack for this sometimes tho)
4. The a is pronounced like in apple
5. Either just weird or orphan's tears (one of the only things I remember and one of the only things that stuck when giving Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children a shot)
6. Sneakers
7. Highway

I mean then again if people are going to start calling “soda” by a brand of soda it makes sense to call it coke. Dr. Pepper, Mountain Dew, and Sprite are all good sodas, but they are no where near as popular as Coca Cola. The only one you could argue about being as popular as coke would be Pepsi.
Yeah, but it's like calling any kind of video game console “PlayStation”. It's just a pet peeve of mine.
Well let's be honest, people see dr. pepper as a knockoff pepsi/coke, mountain dew as a caffeine wasteland, and sprite as America's backup soda

The only soda that even goes close to matching the success of Coca-Cola is Pepsi, but they're falling behind

I get it tho, coke is definitely an absurd nickname for soda, I just needed to say that.

I pronounce the A like in sand. Is that what you mean by a long A sound?

Soda, Pop, Coke

Dabzers wrote:

THE TERM CAME FIRST!
In actual fact, the term I use most preferably, “soda”, came first.

Believe it or not, people started putting carbon dioxide into pure water before doing the same to sugary drinks. That concoction was known as “soda water”. And yes, cola may have been the first unhealthy carbonated beverage that most people associate the term “soda” or “soft drink” with, but that’s besides the point.
