Yes.
Does this mean we can not write even the name of any browser extension/userscript?

You made all isOnline users lose there crowns. Ouch.

What is isOnline? And what are crowns?
isOnline is an extension that was used by over 2,500 scratchers. With iO, you can know if your friends are online or offline, get access to more emojis and more! Before, if you advertised isOnline in Scratch, you would be rewarded with a crown next your profile which would be visible among other iO users. But due to the new policy, since no one is able advertise, everyone lost there crowns.

@ceebee, I respectfully disagree with the new policy. From your point of view, I can see that you just want to keep Scratchers safe. I totally get that, but as far as I know, there has been no instances where isOnline or other popular extensions tried to steal user information. If you ban the advertisement of extensions, which to me is banning extensions itself, is making the community more uninformed. Kids should be taught about internet safety, and how to take advantage of the various aspects of the internet - such as extensions. So instead of just banning something, why don't we educate others about internet safety and how to use extensions?

It is like forcing people to stay home because the real world is dangerous. Instead of just keeping them home, why don't we teach them how to survive in the real world rather than hide from it?

I 100 percent agree with you.

We intend to keep it running until our servers all fail and we don't have backups, or something equally as catastrophic happens

What if we make like a scratch extension application thingy. Like a desktop application for scratch in which developers (Like the IsOnline developers), can continue their development on their extensions.

This is way too far… WAY WAY too far… ST you need to stop. I almost feel like leaving Scratch due to this. You need to stop adding these horrible “policies”. One disaster at a time tho.

Ok. I'll take a breath and actually implement that in my mind (this is a big change to my Scratch habits) and then I'll see what I'll do with isOnline. Thinking of deleting it from the store would be a good first approach, I guess.
There's no good reason to delete it from the store, if it collects userdata that's the Scratcher's choice to install it…

There's no reason to rant about this…using Scratch with extensions is like playing Minecraft with mods. You don't need them.

I understand that the Scratch Team wants extensions not being used for safety reasons. However, what if they were open source? You could see their code, if you don't like what they are doing it is all up to you to decide if you want to have the extension or not. I simply believe extensions make a website better.
Yes, I agree
All of the majorly used scratch extensions (other than griffpatchs i think) are open source on github
Hey Packers, you might have to change your banner. It says “IsOnline”

Okay, people, personally, I don't use ** or ** or whatever they are, but it isn't that big of a deal! You can still use them, you just won't get a virtual crown. Please stop hating on the Scratch Team; it is probably to get less website traffic. You can be mad or sad or any other emotion, just don't go and be so, you know, out there about it.
Yes, I agree. That's what I've been trying to tell everyone. To be honest, the fact that you can't get a crown is tiny, the whole point is to see if people are online or not.
Exactly!

I'm confused about why people are making a big deal about it.
-_- It is because you can tell others to use the extension! If i want to know if my new friend who just joined when i gets online, how do i tell him?

Browser Extension/Userscript Policy

Hi folks. It seems like the conversation is going around in circles and there is some confusion about what the policy is. To be clear, we have not banned extensions. The policy is that you may no longer advertise browser extensions or user scripts on Scratch. This is a security issue and not something we plan to allow going forward. We didn't make this decision lightly, but in the end user safety comes first. Please read the first post in this thread, and particularly the FAQ for more information. We are closing the topic now. Thanks!
