The Super Mario universe is connected to the JoJo universe and other Shonen Jump universes. I'll explain why:

Chitoge Kirisaki from Nisekoi was a costume for Super Mario Maker.
Chitoge Kirisaki appeared in J-Stars Victory Vs, where many other Shonen Jump characters appear, as well as JoJo.
And there's also a character in Battle Tendency that is named Mario.
In DiU, there are two people named after Nintendo's employees, Shigeru Miyamoto and Satoru Iwata.
