Do NOT add AI to Scratch — #NoAIOnScratch

A guide for when scratch games become a bit too hard
(This is a suggestion I made just now) being able to describe code that can be hijacked that has been hidden (as a feature) in a way that makes it 1: not able to hijack the code and 2: still able to make the code visible in some form

Wow, those are really good ideas! I really like the translator one, too!

AI can do good and bad things. For example: AI image and videogenerators can generate images and videos easily, But might Cause misinformation. They also don't care of copyrights of painters , such as people who is still alive.
In scratch,it might be good for beginners who don't know how to code but might replace people's minds, not creativity . The AI also gets code from other people using scratch, like the painters.
Yes ,BluEagle. I can be used to make a game when coding gets hard , but that means it is useless for easier games.

I flinch when I see the part about Scratch being ‘non-profit’ on its home screen. I used to smile at that, but that part about it being non-profit is going to disappear soon when it becomes too obvious that ‘non-profit’ is just a nice costume for what they're really doing.

The translator one is actually one of the CLA’s intended release features judging from the demo, actually!

This thread's cooking up some absolutely amazing arguments. Please keep cooking if you want us to have a chance at convincing the Scratch Foundation.

I have a more technical argument against 4.0

2.0 happened because Squeak was very, very old
3.0 happened because Flash was dying and horribly insecure
React isn’t even close to dead

Even if there is actually the sort of technical change that the version naming would imply, the 2.0 pages that should’ve gotten replaced a decade ago are still around and still using a different framework to the 3.0 pages, which would mean now we would have three types of pages which need to be maintained by different groups of people, and as stated before React isn’t dying yet which means there isn’t really a reason to change frameworks.

So what I conclude is that this label (the jump from 3.0 to 4.0) is being abused to raise hype. This is also further supported by its known features (AI is obviously heavily exploited for hype and is the main feature here and membership is something that would likely excite investors), and it is concerning that the SF is trying to raise hype with the sort of things profit-motivated investors love
After your post, someone else talked about the SF potentially becoming for-profit!

I have an idea:
What if we get Scratch Team members to protest against these ToS changes? We can't get all of them to protest since we need some of them for moderation, but what if we got all non-essential ST members to protest against these changes?

We need Scratch to listen to us. Maybe the Scratch Team can take down the flame wars instead of shutting down the whole topic.

What gives you the impression that they are going to become for-profit? An organization can't just say they're a non-profit, there are things that non-profits have to do to have their legal status as one, and there are consequences for becoming a for-profit (e.g. the organization is no longer tax-exempt)

So I've got to read your post again, but I don't think this has anything much constructive to say
The CLA sucks in so many ways. It's clear Scratch is barely informed about AI from these demos. I didn't want to say this in Scratch, but AI has caused deaths, hospital visits, serious money loss, and more, when it is implemented wrong. This is not a correct implementation. You can't just drop an LLM into a chat sidebar and call it an AI assistant.
This is how most modern AI assistants are made today? How did you determine that Scratch has implemented the CLA “wrong?”
Scratch is trying to hide under some non-profit facade when what they're doing is very corporate style.
Again, they're a non-profit or not. This just seems like arbitrary labeling

AI would be great for learning code the scratch tutorials don't give you enough info to code on your own, and it can boost creativity instead of just seeing starters games as pong or pop the balloon. Instead, you can tell it your idea, and it can walk you through the code.

I… think you need to reread the posts that have been made over the past few days. I think it’s calmed down from arguing to just… debating. Which is pretty much what we’re here to do (other than convince the SF to not add AI, etc.), right? Plus, tons of new posts and points of views have been explored and some real strong arguments have been made.

It probably won't make the whole project, but it might take sprites and code. https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/youtube/tGwu-7jTeaY/

We're not in a flame war right now. I detest how some people are just not contributing to the conversation and just falsely saying, ‘ohhh this is going in circles ohhh this forum needs to be closed’ while drooling around in the corner. None of that is true. Please leave if you have a problem with this forum
