About Me
Hi there, nice to meet you! I’m Sunny, and I go by she/her pronouns! I’m a teen girl living in the south-east of France, in other words in the CET (UTC+2) timezone! I speak three languages - Chinese, my native language, English and French. I come from a Chinese family but moved to France when I was three years old. I have since then attended the local international school opened along with the international organisation my parents work for

At school, I’m often looked upon as the straight-A student - and I admit that I do have a certain ease for academic assignments. Though I sometimes can be seen as the stereotypical know-it-all everybody hates (oops-) due to how serious and professional I can act, I’m also a fun person to hang out with in general, especially around close friends. I’m compassionate and helpful, and will not hesitate to crack a few jokes when I’m able to think of some

Online, I’m more extroverted than irl and can be quite chaotic (like most of us here, I presume ). That’s also why I love SWC so much! Everyone is so nice and welcoming (and chaotic!!!) that you don’t have to worry about making a false step or not fitting in.

Personality apart, I have loads of hobbies and extracurricular activities! Just this year, my volleyball coach signed my team up for the regional championships, and so far we’re in second place! We’ve got competitions approximately every two weeks, and each time the team’s bonds grow deeper and more meaningful with the excitement, stress and anticipation ^^ If you can’t tell that already, I love both this sport and my teammates <3

I’ve also played the piano since I was four years old, and though I’m not considering becoming a professional musician, I’ve grown fond of piano music over the years. I’m currently working on Intermezzo op.117 n.2 by Brahms, and I’m not even lying when I say I’ve fallen in love with the piece

During my free time, I also enjoy making handicrafts - I have a drawer full of old cardboard, bits of strings, paint and various other items I’ve collected over the years, and they do come in useful at times, though what they mostly do is lay around untouched hehe…

And, before I forget- I /love/ reading, to the point where my mom gets mad at me from repeating ‘dinner’s ready!’ five times without me hearing her - because I’m absorbed in the fictional universe of a book I’ve had a passion for reading as far as I can remember, and I think the first time I cried over a book was in second grade :’) Some of my all time favourites are, to state a few, the Count of Monte Cristo, the Harry Potter saga, the Giver and Little Women.

Aside from SWC, I’ve taken part in smaller camps, including WUC, SAC and SDC. I’ve led once in SAC, which allowed me to better understand with hands-on experience the responsibilities of a leader (cabin planning, storyline, adding words, etc…)

Irl, I’ve held many leadership positions, as I’m pretty much a born leader. It seems that my teachers agree on this point since they’ve mentioned I’m a ‘class leader’ in my latest school report lol. I’ve been class president numerous times during primary school, and I am currently eco-delegate in our class, meaning I, along with eco-delegates from other classes, organise environmental awareness events around the school and propose solutions to make our community more eco-friendly.

As for writing, I really started doing so as a hobby in March ‘24, during my first SWC session. Before that, though I enjoyed writing assignments in school, I never considered it as a leisure activity. With all the dailies and weeklies, I started delving further into the world of writing and since then it has grown into a passion. I’m currently working on a short story that I’m planning to enter for an irl writing competition.

Cabin Preferences
Though I most often write in fan-fi, real-fi, fantasy or dystopian, I love exploring possibilities with new and unfamiliar genres as well, so I’m fine with co-leading any cabin!
I would prefer not to co-lead TCTWNW because I very much enjoy the competitive of SWC ;D

Time Dedication
In July, it’ll be the summer vacation for me, and for once, we aren’t going back to China, so I’ll be able to dedicate loads of time to SWC! I’ll pretty much be online all day, and will be able to dedicate at least 3 hours per day for SWC (not including personal things like doing the dailies and weeklies)!

For the cabin-planning months, the only things that will keep me away from SWC are school work and extracurricular activities. I do have a couple music exams scattered around in May and June, but hopefully these won’t affect my activity too much.
On the whole, I expect to be able to delicate at least 9 hours a week for cabin-planning.

Time Management
I admit, time management is not my strong suit. Between school work, extracurricular activities, house chores, hobbies and everything online, I often get lost and struggle to prioritise tasks effectively.

Though I ultimately get things done before the deadline, the result is often of poorer quality than if I had planned my tasks beforehand. This is particularly problematic when I have very limited time to get things done (e.g. when I come home at 8pm and have homework for the next day). I learnt the importance of effective time management the hard way: stressful situations and late-night working - I’ve seen all those.

I have been actively working on my time management skills for quite some time now - I’ve tried various methods for effective time management and so far the two that work best for me are:
- Separating my day into a precise schedule for each task
- Sorting out the level of importance of each task, therefore prioritising the completion of one over another.
- Rewarding myself once I finish an important task effectively
These allow me to complete one task first before going to another, and I found that they help improve my work quality and reduce stress for deadlines.

Collaboration & Assets
I am generally good at collaborating effectively with others. From the numerous projects I’ve been part of, I’ve learnt to be attentive to others’ thoughts and questions, and am good at incorporating these with my own ideas. I am also able to attribute tasks fairly to each person depending on their strengths and skills, and am quick to find solutions to any problems that may arise, both online and irl. An example of this is when a person from my group fell sick the day of our presentation. I was able to come up with last minute solutions and attribute their part to those of us who were present. We ended up getting full marks ^^

My main weakness in collaboration used to be the lack of communication, but I am confident when I say that I have improved a lot in this field. In the past, I used to be shy and reluctant to share my opinions and ideas with others. Similarly, when something went off track, I did my best to hide it from others and fix the problem myself. This often led to extremely stressful and awkward situations.
However, I do believe I am much better concerning this. Over the years I’ve grown more extroverted and more open to sharing my thoughts and feelings with others. I’ve learnt that it's okay to step out of my comfort zone and communicate my opinions - even if I’m unsure whether they’re good or not.

One Quality
If I were to choose one quality I would be able to embody as a leader, it would be communication. As I mentioned before, I used to have trouble concerning this, and that reinforced my understanding of its importance.

The lack of communication often leads to misunderstandings, eventually arguments. For a team to work smoothly, we have to prevent these from happening as much as possible. The solution is quality communication. By this, I mean that members of the leadership teams should not hesitate to tell others if something has gone off track - or even just to inform the others that they will be unavailable for a day or two, that they would need a little more time to finish a project, or simply that they have a good idea to share!

Communication is vital for the well-functioning of a leadership team, whether online or irl. If a problem is encountered, nobody should bear the burden alone, as more brains can think of a solution quicker than a single one!

If they have not warned us of their inactivity, the rest of the leadership team shall again distribute the inactive member’s tasks to others to ensure that the cabin will work smoothly. If the inactive member does not show any signs of activity after two or three weeks, we will consider replacing them with a new (co)leader if needed.

I really feel like I’ve learnt about you, which is the point of this section, so amazing job!! However, you could try to talk a little more about your hobbies and such, explaining how they affect your personality, or what makes them enjoyable for you.

With participation, it's amazing, although briefly mentioning a bit about what you enjoyed/learnt from your past SWC sessions could be beneficial. And elaborating on what you learnt/enjoyed for your SAC leadership experience as well as a bit more on your writing experience outside of SWC <3

Although you’ve said your cabin preferences, it might be good to mention cabins you would definitely not like to lead, or not want to as much, just to help the Co-hunters out.

Time Dedication is looking great!! But you could mention about letting people know if something comes up? Just a suggestion, and it doesn’t have to even be a lot, a quick sentence would do. <3

A few things, however, including that, in my personal opinion, you could cut out the parts of your age. It’s just a me thing though, and it may give you some words to use for other parts.
It also feels like you’re rambling alot, which is inherently Maddie, but it can also help to read through and cut out/rewrite some parts. At the moment it feels like you’re talking about yourself, to yourself, so cutting it down and organizing a little bit could make it easier to read for others loll.

I have a lot to say here, so let's begin. This is a crucial part of anyone's app, as it's what most (if not all) Co-hunters/Hosts look at when they’re choosing leadership teams. Which means that you need to properly display your skills here, if you’re struggling to write it, I find that looking at other’s leader apps helps to give you a good idea of what to write.
That being said, here’s what the last leader app asked ‘what are your skills and shortcomings in Time Management.’ So you should be able to say some proper, set examples of skills you succeed in with time management, and elaborate on why it marks you a good leader or how you have used those skills.
As well as set examples of things you struggle with, as well as why or how you struggle with them, and how you are improving them/plan to improve on them.

I would recommend rewriting this particular part of your app, while looking at past apps (typically ones from recent sessions that got picked) to help you understand what to write. I’m happy to critique this if you end up rewriting this part, but this is just a thing to keep in mind!! <3

Collaboration and Assets
‘I can safely say people go to me to do all the work because they know (they know… >:D) I'll get it done the best.’ So I’ve started reading this, and I find that this would not be something I would look for in a app, this is about collaboration, and with your wording it feels like you’re talking about being in control/running the show, which isn’t really teamwork </3 Which carries into this sentence ‘And I honestly don't mind all that much because I love when things are in my control,’ So just a note to remind you to watch your wording and see if you could spin it into a more positive light.
And whilst reading through this, I feel like you’ve mentioned how you like to take it all up, and control/run it, but you may want to watch this/rephrase this or list it as a weakness so it doesn’t feel like its controlling or smothering the other things you’re trying to talk about in this section.

This general section feels very disorganized, and like it's jumping from part to part. So like with Time Management, try to show your strengths with working with others, and your weaknesses with how you're working on them. As well as your assets separately.

Question 1 - About Me - 391 Words
Hi there! I’m Skylar (she/her), a 16-year-old Year 12 A Level student from the UK, living in the B(e)ST timezone. I currently take Biology, Chemistry, Maths, and Physics at school and am suffering through the fact I decided to take four subjects. I’m also hopelessly obsessed with public transport, city planning, and commercial aviation, and I want to work as a civil engineer in the future.

In addition to my interest in the sciences, I also am interested in politics and current affairs. I am overly involved in Model United Nations at school, spending much of my time on a Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon dedicated to this activity. I’ve been doing it for three years now, and needless to say this is one of the best things I’ve ever done in my life.

Aside from my academic pursuits, I love being creative! If I’m not studying, working on something for Model UN, or chasing my train/plane obsession down various rabbit holes, you can probably find me making music. I play piano, violin, and also sing in a choir. I love to make music of any kind, and I especially love making covers of songs!

Art is also something I like to do in my free time! I used to spend a lot more time doing art than I currently do, but due to the pressures of life I’ve found myself writing a lot more than drawing. I still draw, and often find myself doing this just before I go to bed.

I, of course, also love writing! I’ve found myself enjoying writing more and more recently. I love to write short stories and scenes, set in worlds I’ve created and established - but that doesn’t mean I don’t write the occasional fanfiction. Regardless of what I’m writing, worldbuilding will always be my favourite part of the writing process. I love combining my interests in sciences and humanities to create a world where my characters can freely live their lives.

I’m not just big into academics and creative stuff though! A fun fact about me is that I figure skate! I’m currently learning salchow and spins, and due to my academics I haven’t had the chance to go to any competitions or perform in anything yet. I do, however, miss the ice rink a lot when I’m not there.

Question 2 - Experience - 398 Words
This coming session will mark my tenth session of SWC - crazy, am I right? I first discovered SWC back in March 2021, and have been coming back ever since. The majority of sessions I’ve attended - eight of those nine - have been as a camper, and last session was my first time co-leading an SWC Cabin!

I have co-led one session of SWC, that being the absolutely fantabulously amazing Fanfi Battle of the Bands last session with Alana, Pepper, and Snowy! It was such a fun experience, getting to plan activities and engage with the SWC community from the leadership side. During this session, I also learnt so much about what it means to be an SWC leader, aside from just adding points and making a fun storyline! It also involved taking on other responsibilities and improvising on the fly should a storyline or plan fall through. This experience also made me appreciate how much work goes into preparing a cabin, and also taught me how to handle complex storylines.

I have also hosted and led various other scratch camps in the past, such as being a current host of Science Exploration Camp (SXC) and Scratch Study Camp (SSC), leader in SMC, and a co-leader in SRC. As a host and leader in these camps, I’ve had to improvise last minute to get an activity out, create daily and weekly activities, and also pick leaders to help create amazing and memorable sessions.

In real life, I’ve been on my school’s Model United Nations Secretariat for the past few months, helping to plan and organise our conference. During this time, my role has primarily been mentoring students both new and old to Model UN within the school, training them to be better delegates. In addition, I’ve also collaborated with the rest of the team to get various other things organised, such as logistic plans.

I have also run a few clubs in the past, as well as organised a few charity sales at my school before. These have involved organising people into completing different tasks, advertising, and talking with the teachers about what we’re planning to do and when.

In terms of my writing experience, I have been writing for as long as I can remember, making stories and being creative in my free time. I mainly write for fun, but I’ve entered the occasional essay competition in the past.

Question 3 - Cabin Pref - 496 Words
The cabins I’d most like to lead this session would be Apocalyptic, Adventure, and Science Fiction! I would prefer not to lead Fanfiction as I co-led that cabin last session, and would not like to lead Romance or Horror mainly because I’m uncomfortable writing in those genres. Aside from that, I would be happy to lead any cabin.

Apocalyptic (or Science Fiction) - Inspired by my endless love of Model United Nations, this would be a cabin partially inspired by this amazing activity that I do. Campers would be called from their various imaginary countries/worlds/planets to an emergency committee, where they discuss their solutions to a dramatic event that, if handled incorrectly, could involve the destruction of the universe. It would function as a bit of a hybrid between a crisis committee and a regular committee except with none of the formalities.

This cabin will be a rather chaotic mess, which is focused on the storyline. Campers will be able to complete little writing prompts focused on worldbuilding that will further expand on the consequences of the apocalypse they’re living through, as well as lots of roleplay in the committee room to find a solution. I would absolutely love the opportunity to lead this cabin this session - out of my three ideas, this is my favourite.

Adventure (or Realistic Fiction) - World Tour! Campers would be part of a tour group, travelling around the world in a month! They’ll visit all sorts of places, from New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, and China, to Germany, France, and the United Kingdom! In each location, campers will be able to complete different challenges that will earn them the postcard from that location, which they can then add to their collection. I’m also hoping to create a cabin memory book as well titled the Travel Journal, which campers can use to remember their journey together with pieces of writing from each of the locations they’ll visit!

This cabin would be extremely adaptable to differing levels of cabin activity as well. If campers are super engaged with the storyline, then they can visit more countries and earn more postcards but if they’re not super engaged with the storyline then less countries will be visited. Either way, it will still result in a “completed” storyline. This is definitely my most fleshed out idea and I would love to have the opportunity to lead this cabin.

Science Fiction (or Adventure) - This cabin is inspired by Star Trek, where campers are on a mission to discover new planets and species and conduct scientific research. They’d receive missions from Starfleet, which would be one-week mini-storylines (for a total of four) in and of themselves which campers can complete. However, this is the least fleshed out idea I have, and my least favourite out of the three I’ve mentioned here. Regardless, I would still love to lead this cabin.

I would prefer not to lead TCTWNW, as I find I really enjoy the competitive side of SWC.

Question 4 - Excerpt - 448 Words
The night was warm - thankfully, it was the height of summer. The skies were fairly dark, and the stars were fairly noticeable, even above the bright city lights. Renée, Robert, and Ally all went out with their day clothes to stay warm. Renée smiled as she and Robert walked with Ally down to their local park.

Renée could already tell there was real joy on Ally’s face, and that Ally was already feeling better.

“Star!” Ally shouted, letting go of Renée’s hand to point up at the sky. “Mama, Dad, there’s a star!”

“You’re right, there is a star,” Renée said, smiling. “Do you know what constellation that’s from?”

Ally blinked. “I… hmmm!”

Renée saw Robert smile as well. “We’re almost at the park, Ally. How about we get there first and then maybe you can tell us what constellation that star is from.”

Ally laughed. “Yes! I know all the stars!”

Renée laughed. “You do know all the stars,” she said, as they turned the corner.

In front of them stood the park, all grassy and quiet. There weren’t any swings, or slides, or climbing frames, but that was okay. This park had some nice benches that Renée loved to take Ally out to when the night got dark during winter.

“Star!” Ally said. “And another, and another! So many stars!”

Renée and Robert both laughed.

“Can you find the star you saw earlier?” Robert asked, as they sat down on their usual bench.

Renée saw Ally’s face bunch up in concentration. “Hmmm… there? No… there!” Ally exclaimed. “That star!”

“Do you know what constellation that star is from?” Renée asked.

Ally once again bunched her face up in concentration. “The cross! The- the south cross!”

“Close enough,” Robert corrected. “That one’s from the Southern Cross, a constellation we can only see where we are. In ancient times, it used to help sailors navigate the seas south of the equator.”

“Equa- equator?” Ally asked.

“It’s a big imaginary line that splits the Earth into north and south,” Renée explained. “We live south of it so we can see certain stars that people in the north can’t. And when sailors from England started exploring the world, they couldn’t see the North Star anymore. So they found the Southern Cross.”

“Sailor! Stars!” Ally exclaimed in delight. “I love this one!”

“It’s very pretty,” Renée replied. “I like it too.”

“Me as well,” Robert added. “Maybe one day you’ll know all the stars.”

“STARS!” Ally exclaimed. “I want to see the stars. And space. Lots of space.”

Renée felt Robert lean closer to her. “I think we have a future astrophysicist on our hands, don’t you?”

Renée smiled. “Oh, absolutely.”

Question 5 - Time Dedication - 245 Words
As a sixth form student, and as someone who is taking four A Levels, there is a lot of work involved in my academic life. However, I can dedicate at least an hour a day to SWC, and more on weekends. I’ve also found that I’ve been managing my schoolwork and life quite well recently too, especially with my recent and somewhat successful foray into bullet journaling.

During June, the first two weeks will consist of my end-of-year exams, however I have been managing my work-life balance fairly well. I would say that while they are important, I should still be able to spend an hour a day on SWC. It would also come as a welcome break to me as well. I may be a bit more inactive than usual in late May but aside from that, they won’t really impact my ability to be online for SWC.

As of now, I have no concrete plans in July, however we do have family coming over to visit during July. I don’t know how much I’ll actually be travelling with them since I’ll still be in school when they arrive. In addition, I’m also planning on doing internships and work experience jobs as well, however these have not yet been confirmed. Overall, my activity and ability to lead a cabin should not be significantly affected by this, and if it is, I will inform the hosts and my (co)leaders as soon as I can.

Question 6 - Time Management - 230 Words
I wouldn’t say my time management is the greatest skill I have. In fact, I’m extremely bad at it. I often procrastinate, but I do my best to break a task down into smaller steps that try to get me over any mountain of work that is freaking me out. I also have started bullet journaling as well in a better effort to manage my time, by creating a to-do list each day of what needs to get done. A lot of the things I plan on there normally get done by the end of the day.

In the past, my terrible time management skills have led to me doing homework the night before, procrastinating until the last minute, forgetting to do things, and waking up stupidly early in the morning to study.

My main strength with time management is my ability to chunk tasks out and take them step by step. This allows me to complete them over a longer period of time, and also allows me to also take a break and deal with my rather short attention span.

This has really helped me complete tasks I normally wouldn’t like to complete recently, especially with my never ending task of revision. Chunking out my time like this has really helped me get things done step by step, especially with a few large research projects I’ve done for school.

Question 7 - Collaboration & Teamwork - 267 Words
I am a bit of a control freak, I’ll admit that. However, my experience with being on my school’s MUN Secretariat has meant that I’ve become a better collaborator. On a team, I do my best to listen to other people and let them carry out their ideas, even if I don’t necessarily agree with it. I’m also willing to compromise on my end, and will usually concede points on my end if it means everyone will be able to come to an agreement.

One of my main strengths in collaboration would be my ability to communicate. Whenever I’m working with other people, I do my best to be as transparent and as open about things as possible. I try to do this by explaining the plan, sending out reminders every so often, and ensuring everything is organised.

I also find myself working best when with other people, and bouncing ideas off one another is where I think my biggest strength is in collaboration. Being able to work with others really helps in truly fleshing out my ideas, as when I talk with others I’m able to try and find some sort of compromise that satisfies all of us. In addition to this, I also am not afraid to throw more absurd and out-there ideas, usually as an offhand comment. These ideas usually end up sparking some discussion, resulting in a better group overall.

In addition, I am a self-taught artist and graphic designer. I’d be willing to make cabin aesthetics and matching profile pictures in addition to the usual cabin work - storylines, word-adding, and so on.

Question 8 - One Quality - 284 Words
The one quality I think I embody the most as a leader is mentorship. Being a leader doesn’t just mean organising fun activities, it’s also about teaching the people you’re leading, encouraging them, and helping them get better.

I think mentorship is a quality I’ve grown into over time as I find myself taking on more of these leadership roles in real life. Much of my job in the secretariat involves training younger delegates and that involves mentoring them and teaching them. In addition to this, I’ve also mentored a younger year group at school. I truly enjoy mentoring: it makes me feel so fulfilled and it’s rewarding watching people grow over time with my guidance.

A huge part of SWC is all about growth, as a writer and also personally to an extent as well. I’ve experienced so much growth over my time in SWC, not just as a writer but also as a person, and that couldn’t have been possible without the amazing people I’ve met along the way: Alana, Pepper, Snowy, Ris, Livy, Sage, Amethyst, Bookie, Em, Ivory, Gee, Pi, Waterfall, Fini, Gigi, Hope, and Mouse - just to name some - who have helped me become the person I am today and supported me through my time here at SWC in different ways.

Mentorship is present in SWC in all forms, from doing critiques to helping new members find their way around. In SWC, I would focus my time on really helping the newer SWCers, whether that be through critiquing their writing, or answering questions, and encouraging them to reach their own writing goals. Another thing I’d do is encourage the formation of relationships, especially between more experienced SWCers and newer campers.

The cabin atmosphere that I hope to create this session would be a cabin with an engaging storyline, focused on cabin bonding and chaos, allowing SWCers of all ages and experiences to grow. I’d also aim to create a somewhat competitive cabin, but keep the atmosphere generally relaxed.

If a leader in my cabin goes inactive without prior notice, I’d first try contacting them and wait four days. If the four days have passed and they still haven’t responded, I’d contact them again and begin drawing up plans with the other leaders as to how we can proceed. I would also give the hosts a heads-up that this is happening as well. If they still don’t respond, I will implement the plans I made with the other leaders, such as splitting up campers to different word count groups and figuring out how we can best end the storyline nicely.

If a leader in my cabin did give notice that they were going inactive for an extended period of time, I would discuss with them and my other leaders about practicalities before they go inactive. These practicalities include handing over hostship of a word count groups or redistributing campers in word count groups, wrapping up the storyline in a way that makes sense, and redistributing projects that would be released by that person.

If I was to go inactive, I’d let the leaders and the hosts know all the details I have about the inactivity (keeping reasons as general as possible). I’d then discuss with my leaders in the time I have left about transferring hostship of studios or redistributing campers in word count groups, suggestions as to how the other leaders can proceed with/end the storyline without me present.

Oooh, good question! I never really got into Barbie so I don’t know what my dream house would look like. But I know my dream house would have a garage workshop for me to make all sorts of amazing things, as well as an upstairs observatory room so I can look at the stars/night sky. At school, I’m often looked upon as the straight-A student - and I admit that I do have a certain ease for academic assignments. Though I sometimes can be seen as the stereotypical know-it-all everybody hates (oops-) due to how serious and professional I can act, I’m also a fun person to hang out with in general, especially around close friends. I’m compassionate and helpful, and will not hesitate to crack a few jokes when I’m able to think of some

Online, I’m more extroverted than irl and can be quite chaotic (like most of us here, I presume ). That’s also why I love SWC so much! Everyone is so nice and welcoming (and chaotic!!!) that you don’t have to worry about making a false step or not fitting in.

Personality apart, I have loads of hobbies and extracurricular activities! Just this year, my volleyball coach signed my team up for the regional championships, and so far we’re in second place! We’ve got competitions approximately every two weeks, and each time the team’s bonds grow deeper and more meaningful with the excitement, stress and anticipation ^^ If you can’t tell that already, I love both this sport and my teammates <3

I’ve also played the piano since I was four years old, and though I’m not considering becoming a professional musician, I’ve grown fond of piano music over the years. I’m currently working on Intermezzo op.117 n.2 by Brahms, and I’m not even lying when I say I’ve fallen in love with the piece

During my free time, I also enjoy making handicrafts - I have a drawer full of old cardboard, bits of strings, paint and various other items I’ve collected over the years, and they do come in useful at times, though what they mostly do is lay around untouched hehe…

And, before I forget- I /love/ reading, to the point where my mom gets mad at me from repeating ‘dinner’s ready!’ five times without me hearing her - because I’m absorbed in the fictional universe of a book I’ve had a passion for reading as far as I can remember, and I think the first time I cried over a book was in second grade :’) Some of my all time favourites are, to state a few, the Count of Monte Cristo, the Harry Potter saga, the Giver and Little Women.

Aside from SWC, I’ve taken part in smaller camps, including WUC, SAC and SDC. I’ve led once in SAC, which allowed me to better understand with hands-on experience the responsibilities of a leader (cabin planning, storyline, adding words, etc…)

Irl, I’ve held many leadership positions, as I’m pretty much a born leader. It seems that my teachers agree on this point since they’ve mentioned I’m a ‘class leader’ in my latest school report lol. I’ve been class president numerous times during primary school, and I am currently eco-delegate in our class, meaning I, along with eco-delegates from other classes, organise environmental awareness events around the school and propose solutions to make our community more eco-friendly.

As for writing, I really started doing so as a hobby in March ‘24, during my first SWC session. Before that, though I enjoyed writing assignments in school, I never considered it as a leisure activity. With all the dailies and weeklies, I started delving further into the world of writing and since then it has grown into a passion. I’m currently working on a short story that I’m planning to enter for an irl writing competition.

Cabin Preferences
Though I most often write in fan-fi, real-fi, fantasy or dystopian, I love exploring possibilities with new and unfamiliar genres as well, so I’m fine with co-leading any cabin!
I would prefer not to co-lead TCTWNW because I very much enjoy the competitive of SWC ;D

Time Dedication
In July, it’ll be the summer vacation for me, and for once, we aren’t going back to China, so I’ll be able to dedicate loads of time to SWC! I’ll pretty much be online all day, and will be able to dedicate at least 3 hours per day for SWC (not including personal things like doing the dailies and weeklies)!

For the cabin-planning months, the only things that will keep me away from SWC are school work and extracurricular activities. I do have a couple music exams scattered around in May and June, but hopefully these won’t affect my activity too much.
On the whole, I expect to be able to delicate at least 9 hours a week for cabin-planning.

Time Management
I admit, time management is not my strong suit. Between school work, extracurricular activities, house chores, hobbies and everything online, I often get lost and struggle to prioritise tasks effectively.

Though I ultimately get things done before the deadline, the result is often of poorer quality than if I had planned my tasks beforehand. This is particularly problematic when I have very limited time to get things done (e.g. when I come home at 8pm and have homework for the next day). I learnt the importance of effective time management the hard way: stressful situations and late-night working - I’ve seen all those.

I have been actively working on my time management skills for quite some time now - I’ve tried various methods for effective time management and so far the two that work best for me are:
- Separating my day into a precise schedule for each task
- Sorting out the level of importance of each task, therefore prioritising the completion of one over another.
- Rewarding myself once I finish an important task effectively
These allow me to complete one task first before going to another, and I found that they help improve my work quality and reduce stress for deadlines.

Collaboration & Assets
I am generally good at collaborating effectively with others. From the numerous projects I’ve been part of, I’ve learnt to be attentive to others’ thoughts and questions, and am good at incorporating these with my own ideas. I am also able to attribute tasks fairly to each person depending on their strengths and skills, and am quick to find solutions to any problems that may arise, both online and irl. An example of this is when a person from my group fell sick the day of our presentation. I was able to come up with last minute solutions and attribute their part to those of us who were present. We ended up getting full marks ^^

My main weakness in collaboration used to be the lack of communication, but I am confident when I say that I have improved a lot in this field. In the past, I used to be shy and reluctant to share my opinions and ideas with others. Similarly, when something went off track, I did my best to hide it from others and fix the problem myself. This often led to extremely stressful and awkward situations.
However, I do believe I am much better concerning this. Over the years I’ve grown more extroverted and more open to sharing my thoughts and feelings with others. I’ve learnt that it's okay to step out of my comfort zone and communicate my opinions - even if I’m unsure whether they’re good or not.

One Quality
If I were to choose one quality I would be able to embody as a leader, it would be communication. As I mentioned before, I used to have trouble concerning this, and that reinforced my understanding of its importance.

The lack of communication often leads to misunderstandings, eventually arguments. For a team to work smoothly, we have to prevent these from happening as much as possible. The solution is quality communication. By this, I mean that members of the leadership teams should not hesitate to tell others if something has gone off track - or even just to inform the others that they will be unavailable for a day or two, that they would need a little more time to finish a project, or simply that they have a good idea to share!

Communication is vital for the well-functioning of a leadership team, whether online or irl. If a problem is encountered, nobody should bear the burden alone, as more brains can think of a solution quicker than a single one!

Some of my favourite books are the Wings of Fire series by Tui T. Sutherland, Harry Potter by J.K Rowling, and of course: The Girl Who Drank the Moon by Kelly Barnhill <3 Another lovely aspect of my life is ✨music✨ Music is always really calming. My current obsessions are Taylor Swift and EPIC: the musical (hint: it’s epic!)! I also listen to Olivia Rodrigo, Katy Perry, Alan Walker, and a mix of other bands and artists. A huge part of my life is science. Pure, beautiful, nerdy science. It’s passions in life; a scientist is what I’ve wanted to be since I was six. It’s always helped me grow in knowledge and understanding of the world, and given me a steady ground of safety.
And then: theatre. This is one of my more recent ventures, but I already love it. Acting, watching, being a part of the crew- it’s all amazing. There’s just something about stepping into the one of my bigger life of another person that can open your eyes to the life of the people standing around you!
Finding SWC is one of the best things that have happened to me! I cannot imagine my social or writing journey without it- my confidence grew tenfold after joining and I hope that everyone gets a chance to experience just as much magic! ❤️

July ‘25 will be my sixth session of SWC (woah I’m getting old). I’ve also participated in camps like JWC, WUC, SRC, etc…

Among all these sessions, I’ve definitely learned a lot and hope to give a lot back!
For leadership experience, I have experience both online and IRL. Recently, I co-led myth (sage and willow ❤️) and found out a lot more about being on the SWC leadership team, and about the responsibility and expectations. I’ve also been the admin of a roleplay or two on Scratch. In real life, a lot of my experience is from either school or home. At school, I’ve been the leader of several group projects or assignments. At home, I take care of the household in my parents’ absence.
I still have a lot to learn, but I’m trying my best to improve on how I handle situations with people online as well using this experience! As for writing experience, I’ve been writing for a very long time- from short stories written at five (minus punctuation and logic) to novel attempts at ten. I’ve also participated in several writing competitions IRL.
While I don’t have any titles to state my writing experience, I have time and passion- because writing is an art!

If I was going to be a leader, my top preferences for cabins to lead are spy-fi, adventure, fantasy, mythology, mystery, or dystopian. I have ideas for a few of these-
Spy-fi/Mystery: This is my most fledged-out idea, and the one I’m most in love with! The storyline revolves around an academy that is training the next generation of secret spies, but when a piece of high-tech gadgetry that could unbalance technology is stolen and something strange happens to the teachers, the cadets will have to prove their skills earlier than expected.
Mythology: This storyline is EPIC-based- the basic plot is that in modern times, a ship is wrecked on Circe’s island. Circe knows a way to help the crew get back home, but before she can do that, the crew has to help her with a problem on her island that is interfering with her magic. While I like both of these ideas, I would be able to contribute more to spy-fi as a leader in a storyline, because I really think that the new genre has lots of new opportunities! Next, cabins I wouldn’t do very well in leading because of lack of experience in these genres are poetry, romance, and journalism. As a co-leader, I would be honoured to co-lead any genre!

TCTWNW: Even though I think that this is a good idea, I prefer the competitive levels of SWC, and it motivates me, so I’d prefer not to (co)lead TCTWNW this session.

I will try my best to check in everyday and complete all my responsibilities as early as possible. In July, I will be able to dedicate an hour a day on SWC.
I don’t have any specific plans that I know of currently, except for school and chess extracurriculars, which would take up more or less nine hours of my time in a day. As for June I have little-to-no plans, but since school will just be starting up after summer vacation, that will be my priority. The first half of the month will be holidays, so I can spend as much time as possible on cabin planning! I should be able to complete all my responsibilities, along with write, but if anything comes up, I will notify my leadership team.

Time management has always been an important thing for me to work on. It’s a necessary skill to have in a lot of aspects in daily life- whether it’s short-term, for a test or exam, or long-term, for how well you can divide your homework up and submit it in time.
Starting off with my skills in time management, the two most prominent are efficiency and completing deadlines. First- I always do my work as efficiently as possible while maintaining speed and quality. I try to think of new ways to make my work simpler. Saving time is important for me, so this skill comes in handy. Second- no matter if I have to finish it at the last minute, I always strive to complete all my work on time, and I do most of the time. Though I do procrastinate at times, I always find a way to complete it.
Onto weakness- my two major weak points are procrastination (I do love potatoes :wink and distraction. Procrastinating is a little demon that urges you to push back hard work, and it’s a bit difficult for me to gather the enough will to refuse. I have a habit of leaving things to the last minute, and overworking myself. I’m trying to work on this, by increasing my willpower and choosing more effective times of the day for work! Moving on, I get easily distracted. If I’m studying a topic for a test, it’s likely that I’ll forget about it and start doodling. When I get distracted, it’s hard to get back into the flow of work. This has been a weakness for as long as I can remember, but I’m trying to reduce the effects! Some things I’m trying are making my workspace less cluttered, and focusing only on the task until it’s complete.
These weaknesses do impact my ability, but I’ll always endeavor to tone them down and improve my time management skills, and also my skill in completing my responsibilities as a whole!

Collaboration is something awesome, because to me it’s several minds working together to make something great.
Starting with my strengths in this field: the main ones are open-mindedness and reliability. First, I always listen to every idea, and go through it carefully, considering everyone’s opinion. In my mindset, there are no bad ideas- there’s always space to build upon! Listening is one of the things I’m proud of- I strive to give everyone a chance to pitch in.
Next, I always do the tasks that others are depending on me to complete. Being reliable is a big thing to me- I hate to let anyone down. When your colleague or friend is counting on you, it increases the motivation to get it done a thousand times, because letting that person down makes me feel awful- so, tasks that will affect others are always high on the priority list.
Now, to weaknesses. The ones that stand out the most are overthinking and saying ‘no‘. First, I overthink a LOT. In real life, I’m a socially awkward person sometimes, so I’m constantly second guessing whether I’ve said anything wrong, or done anything displeasing. I’m trying to combat this by being more open, and sharing my thoughts, rather than bottling them up and letting them turn into an overthinking storm.
As for saying ‘no’, this weakness goes hand in hand with overthinking. I get really guilty when I feel like I’ve let someone down, so I do my best to do everything I can. I avoid refusing a request whenever possible, but sometimes I extend my limits. I’m glad to say this has reduced in the past few months, but I’m still trying to improve by setting solid boundaries for myself.
The assets that I can bring to the team are creativity, the ability to hold deadlines, and graphic design.

There are many qualities I value and can embody in a leadership role, but I think the one that I would choose is integrity. Integrity is one of my qualities, and I think it’s important in a leader because (especially in a community like SWC, where things run on an honor system) while a leader’s job is to make sure that everyone’s honest, it’s just as important that they are honest themselves. A leader should be trustworthy to both the leadership team and the campers- anyone participating in SWC, and even beyond that. Actions I will take to embody this are following the honor system, following the ideals and morals that make SWC a better place, and always choosing the honest option: I will do my best to be a good leader.

I’m a Christian, first and foremost, and everything else falls in line after that. I’m also an avid author, reader, content creator, artist, and academic. I’m currently taking dual credit courses with two colleges, and until recently, my life has been CONSUMED by school. However, with my creative streak, I’ve learned how to work with the time that I have. I’m a high school junior (I’m going to be a senior next year?? :eyes: I’m not sure that I’m ready-), and I’m in love with all things words, whether that be writing, reading, speech and debate, and really truly anything with communication. Previous participation
I’ve been in SWC since March 2020! I haven't been in EVERY session since then, but I’ve been in quite a lot! I’ve been a co-leader three times, co-leading Fan-fi twice and Bangsian once. The experiences I’ve had while co-leading have shaped me into a better leader. I’ve learned so much from the SWCommunity. The diversity, the uniqueness, all of it, is SO inspiring! Thanks to SWC, I’ve emerged as a better leader, a better person, and a better writer.
As for my leadership experience outside of SWC, I am a part of the traveling staff team for a Christian non-profit that travels all over the USA to teach teens about civics. I’ve gotten in-depth training on leadership, the mindset behind it, and how to practically apply my leadership skills in the classroom. (The training was a straight week where I was essentially drinking from a firehose the entire time-) I’ve traveled to state capitols all over the USA, and have served on a team that served a student body with a range of 40-100 students (the student body size depends on the class and state). Within this same organization, I also have worked on campaign teams for mock elections, where I have maintained and monitored a large group chat, making sure that it was appropriate and active and that it maintained the campaign’s image. I worked on my friend’s campaigns as well as my own. That admin work can very easily transfer over to a SWC cabin ;D
I also work in my church with the children’s ministry. I have also been given leadership opportunities in my homeschool co-op, my church youth group, my dual credit college courses, as well as in my family. I seek out leadership wherever I go, which has been an interesting experience overall.

Cabin Prefs
It’s summer vacation, and you and your friends live in Gravity Falls, Oregon, with absolutely nothing to do. After the events of Weirdmageddon, everything lacks that ‘weird flair’. All the random happenings feel utterly uninspired and offensively ordinary. You and your friends need something fresh for this summer.

*snicker* Oh imagine just how boring their lives will be for the entire summer. I doubt that anything will change about THAT. *cough*

I would absolutely love to lead a Gravity Falls-inspired cabin underneath the label of Bi-Fi, or maybe Thriller, Mystery, or Adventure. All of those genres would fit with the story I would cook up! Knowledge of Gravity Falls would not be necessary, since I would like to develop a new story that takes inspiration from the series. I- um, no, sorry, BILL, will make appearances as an antagonist, but prior knowledge of who I am- sorry, who HE IS won’t be necessary.

Obviously, I love Gravity Falls, and a cabin underneath those genres would be most preferred. However, I would be down to leading almost any cabin, since each cabin genre offers unique ideas, experiences, and challenges. The only genre I would not be comfortable leading would be anything romance-adjacent.

Time dedication
I have quite a lot of plans, but nothing insane except for two major things: summer camps taking place on June 16-21 (during the planning phase) and July 19-26 (during camp). The July camp will have long road trips that span two days each towards the end, so I will be able to participate in Cabin Wars during that part of the trip. Throughout the duration of the actual camping experiences, I will have zero access to the internet, as I will either be serving or participating as a camper during those times, respectively. I have respect for the rules put in place by these camps, and thus, I will not be online at all during those times.

Each day that I am available, I will be able to dedicate at least an hour to SWC. I am in the process of swimming (read: drowning) in the job market, and I intend to (read: desperately hope to) have a part-time job during the summer. This will not affect activity, just WHEN I am active.

Time management
Over the past couple of months or so, I have grown a LOT in time management. I have learned how to use to-do lists and Pomodoro timers to my advantage, and gosh, it feels so great to be able to use more of my time to do the things I love instead of the things that I’m required to do. I’m able to multitask, and I’m able to get responsibilities done in a timely manner.
However, some areas I still have to improve in are procrastination as well as getting distracted. Thankfully, these things have been hampered by things like the Pomodoro technique that I’ve been using recently. My mind can wander easily, and, gosh, it’s been a journey.

Collaboration and assets
As I’ve stated already, I’ve worked in teams quite a lot, both inside and outside of SWC. I’ve taken leadership roles in various parts of my life, so I know how to work with a team well. I can bring a variety of skills to the table, such as delegation, creativity, deference, decisiveness, and flexibility. I will value every single person on my team, and I will make sure that each of them gets to add their own flair and creativity to the cabin-making process. Sometimes, I can be too flexible and I won’t speak up about ideas that I have, but I’ve been learning to recognize the level to which I can offer ideas depending on the job that I have in a team.

One quality: Flexibility
I’ve learned that flexibility is such an important quality for a leader. Rolling with the punches is a huge part of being a good leader. If you can’t anticipate and adapt to challenges, then your leadership is too rigid and needs to loosen up a little. I have learned that if I’m not flexible, I can easily lose control. At first, I thought it was the opposite, but now I understand how important flexibility actually is.

Cabin atmosphere
Dive into an adventure where you can trust nothing. The only realism you can count on is the amazing memories, supportive leadership, and a vibrant, competitive cabin in which community is paramount.

I was MADE for this question. As a little girl, one of the many toys that I played with constantly was my very own Barbie Dreamhouse. I remember decorating it from head to toe with stickers, self-made furniture, and items that seriously added to the lore of my dolls. I don’t doubt that my decorating philosophy would be much different if I were given a real house. I would decorate it in my favorite color, green (I know, in a Barbie world… X( ), and I would personalize it like no other. Glorious sage chandeliers would hang from the ceiling, my art would be hung on every wall (at least, the art I’m proud of), and I’d DIY all my furniture. Truly, the house of my childhood dreams right there!

this upcoming session will be my tenth session, and will mark the fourth year since i discovered swc. despite being inactive for many of my earlier sessions, in the past year i’ve participated much more in both the main cabin’s activities as well as cabin storylines. and i’ve loved it all.

generally, i would be able to dedicate at least one hour to swc on weekdays, and multiple hours on the weekends.

You could state how many hours ‘multiple hours’ would be!

in the first two weeks of june, i will have exams, so i will be focusing on recvising for them.

time management has never been my strong suit, and i doubt it ever will.

i’m also pretty adaptable and flexible, and i’m able to react to sudden setbacks or changes. i would be happy taking on other leaders’ responsibilities if they weren’t able to complete them.

The question asks about a quality you ‘embody’ and ‘actions you will take to embody this’ so maybe change the wording slightly around the first part and add a bit talking about what you would do to embody patience!

I love this intro, it's so unique!! I would recommend splitting up the big paragraph about yourself and elaborating on a couple of things to make it feel less list-like and rushed, else this is awesome!!

Previous Participation -
Personally, I like to go more into depth about a couple of sessions that were the most important to me, because it gives a chance to show that you have learnt from the past and you can show off a few skills that maybe you don’t mention across your app.
And then a paragraph space when you switch from SWC leadership to IRL leadership could make it easier to read.
And don’t forget to mention any writing experience out of SWC!!!

Don’t forget about capital letters!! Although if its an aesthetic thing, it's perfectly understandable.

and i’m your average rock music enjoyer, artist, and science enthusiast, just to name a few of the many interests i have.
I would personally remove the ‘just to name a few of the many interests I have’ as I don’t think it's needed in this sentence and it doesn't quite make sense.

I would suggest going a little more in depth for each of your paragraphs, especially the last one. Even a sentence or two added would make it feel more personal, otherwise this looks good!

Experience -

About Me -
You’ve said the word ‘staring’ twice in one sentence, so you could change that, although I’m just very picky about word repetition haha.
You asked for tips on expansion, so I would suggest adding a bit about one of the hobbies you mentioned around your daydreaming (which is so real by the way omg) but I think this section is pretty good so whatever you decide!

Experience -
I like to go a little in depth and talk about a few particularly stand out sessions for me and say how they impacted my SWC journey, and maybe a few skills you learnt from those sessions that you don’t talk about a lot throughout your app. Its gives you a chance to show off said skills, show that you improve and learn over time, and it adds a good chunk to your words
