Then they will unblock scratch.org as well.

That sounds like they're using a whitelist of sites rather than a blacklist. Ask your school to add Scratch.org to the whitelist. If they ask why, cite this suggestion.

Ah, alright. Thanks for the clarification!

/hj is the worst tone indicator. It's confusing and ambiguous. I hate it. The point of tone indicators is to indicate tone, or the way that a piece of text should be read, but what does “half joking” mean? Do you just wake up in the morning and think “wow, I really have something I want to talk about seriously but also kinda not, IDK you decide.” It's useless. I hate it. It just provokes a deep rooted anger within me whenever I see it. People just comment /hj as if it makes any sense. It doesn't. Oh wow, it's a tone indicator that's has a relative meaning, how useful, I'll use it in every comment I post. NO. STOP IT. You're a tone indicator, you have only one job, and yet you sit there doing nothing apart angering me.

/srs

This one is useful because it tells you that this signature is fully 100% serious. (/srs) Who would've thought that tone indicators needed to tell you something about the piece of text they're attached to? /s

I'm serious, I'm not even going to put multiple (/hj)s a the end of my signature as to mock the previous paragraph for not getting the point of something(like previous version of my signature). /srs

No support. Would it be easier? Yes. Is it objectively better? Probably. But I have typed in scratch.mit.edu so many times it's like my instinct /hj. Many Scratchers have their computers autocomplete o scratch.mit.edu anyway, with their projects, users, studios, and maybe even forum posts. If scratch changed to scratch.org, all that goes out the window. I could see scratch.mit.edu redirecting to scratch.org, but all of the subdomains might not be saved.

But it would just redirect. In other words: It wouldn't go out the window.

Also, please do not use the “half-joking” tone indicator (/hj), see the /hj tone indicator is worse than useless

WDYM subdomains might not be saved? You will basically never see a Scratch subdomain outside of the handful that exist. Even then: all of then could still redirect to their Scratch.org counterpart(i.e. api.scratch.mit.edu would redirect to api.scratch.org, cdn2.scratch.mit.edu would redirect to cdn2.scratch.org, etc.).

Do you have any evidence suggesting scratch and mit still work together?

alright uh new response, scratch and mit dont work together literally, but MIT is scratch's roots and one of their founding partners. so .mit being there isnt an issue imo, cause its kind of like a tribute to the university that helped scratch get where they are today.

If we're going by Scratch having subdomains from founding partners, then these would all be valid domains:

  • scratch.lego.com
  • scratch.siegelendowment.org
  • scratch.nsf.gov

And, while Scratch's roots are in MIT, Scratch is(as I have seen repeatedly) a fully independent organization.

Why scratch.org? Why not scratch.mit.edu? Changing this would mean nothing. Just a waste of time.

Yes, they don’t HAVE to use their domain for tribute, but since it’s already there they don’t need to bother to remove it because it works.

Mrow meow.(Yes, but why should the ST rely on a third party for the domain? They can easily change it, and they already own Scratch.org. It’s also much easier if they want to set up subdomains later on.)

Yes, it does WORK, but why should they rely on another organization to provide them a domain?

Exactly, plus: I didn't even think about the subdomains bit possibly being easier.

“This is for the ST to decide” is like saying “Well your opinion is subjective.” It in no way invalidates anything.

We should just change it to Scratch.Edu, because schools are suspicious of .org and may start blocking it.

Scratch isn't a college website, it's a lil educational coding sharing platform for kids. They are quite literally unable to buy scratch.edu.

This document allows for United States based educational institutions, university districts based in the US, and non-profit associations that's members consist of at least 75% universities. In addition: all domains registered before 2001 October 29 are allowed to keep running, as long as they continuously renew their registration.

The document also states, with no uncertainty:

Eligibility - Educause wrote:

Generic names are not allowed, and .edu domain names may not be deployed to identify any organization other than the registrant institution or organization. Intentionally deploying a .edu domain name for an institution or organization other than the registrant entity would constitute a violation of domain policy and may lead to the termination of the domain name registration.

This appears to imply that if Scratch does not stop using mit.edu, MIT could possibly lose their domain. Although it does not explicitly state that allowing organizations other than the registrant to use a subdomain is not allowed.
