Change the Scratch Domain

No support. If it doesn't need to be changed, why change it? Also, removing the .edu domain would basically make it instantly blocked in hundreds of schools.

Hyperlinks can be hyper-redirected. HTTP has a built in status code that tells the user client that it's a permanent redirect, that being 308 “Permanent Redirect”. I don't think MIT would be apposed to having a domain that is a glorified redirect domain(that I don't think they even host anymore) so that a popular service doesn't break.

Totally, every single Top Level Domain ever is just used for unblocked games.
But really, if a school was going to block Scratch, it wouldn't be because they're using Scratch.org(a domain they already own).

No??? Most schools don't block all .org or .com domains(at least to my knowledge), just look at sites like Google, it uses a .com domain, and yet there probably a single school that blocks it outright. Plus if they do a full blacklist of all .com and .org sites, then there's no reason for them to also allow .edu domains, since they can host basically the same stuff, but are only owned by universities.

Anyway, I'm probably going to edit the OP to centralize it on Scratch.org. Most of the other domains are kinda silly anyway.

/hj is the worst tone indicator. It's confusing and ambiguous. I hate it. The point of tone indicators is to indicate tone, or the way that a piece of text should be read, but what does “half joking” mean? Do you just wake up in the morning and think “wow, I really have something I want to talk about seriously but also kinda not, IDK you decide.” It's useless. I hate it. It just provokes a deep rooted anger within me whenever I see it. People just comment /hj as if it makes any sense. It doesn't. Oh wow, it's a tone indicator that's has a relative meaning, how useful, I'll use it in every comment I post. NO. STOP IT. You're a tone indicator, you have only one job, and yet you sit there doing nothing apart angering me.

Some governments allow their top level domains to be sold, even if you aren't a citizen there. An example of this is the Indian Ocean(.io), which has it's top level domain available to be bought and sold, even for people outside of this area of the world. I agree to changing it to scratch.org, it isn't affiliated with MIT (and hasn't been for quite a bit now) and it is shorter and easier to remember.

The .edu domain is for educational institutions of higher education in the United States. Scratch is not that, it's MIT which has the .edu domain. Plenty of websites, such as google.com, don't use the .edu domain and aren't blocked in schools. If a school blocks everything except .edu then I'm not sure what website's students are going on besides select research hosted on .edu domains.
With 125,059,216 accounts registered, it's very unlikely schools would block Scratch because most of them use it in their curriculum in the first place. Every school IT safety service has a whitelist which Scratch is probably already on.

also, maybe its just me but .org sounds kinda sus
i dunno i feel like alot of virus websites use that domain.. and lots of schools auto-block that domain

I don't see a point in doing this right now. I think most people are used to what it is (including myself). I have no clue how easy it is to actually change domains of an entire website the size of Scratch though, so i can't exactly judge this based upon how difficult it would be.

Misconceptions about the Scratch Room

* Low floor: It should be easy to climb in and get started with Scratch - even for Scratchers who have no experience programming. - This does NOT mean complex things shouldn't be added. Making the ceiling higher or the walls wider doesn't make the floor harder to get on.
* Wide walls: Scratchers should be able to make all kinds of things with Scratch - not just animations and games, but news programs, science experiments, things we can't even imagine. - Wide walls means that some things that may be unconventional or odd or “useless” at first glance may still be worthwhile to add, because some people may find them useful for making new unique things.
* High Ceiling: Even though it's easy for someone who is new to programming to get started with Scratch, it should still be possible to make complex stuff. - Although the floor is there, many forumers just look up at the ceiling rather than thinking about the floor. They say “this would be too complicated, new Scratchers wouldn't understand it” without considering the fact that it can be worked up to with the handy floor we have.
