Why are their only 10 Cloud Variables in a Project?
I want to create a chat for a game I'm making and I am hitting my head because I need at least 11 cloud variables for the chat and for the game itself I need at least another 7 and more for another part (4). Why make this restriction?

It is probably restricted because the scratch teams servers dont have infinite data capacity and they dont want somebody to make a game with like 8000 cloud variables to intentionally destroy the scratch servers. You could attempt to make a system where one variable stores 2 different values, i mean people do that with save codes so it could work.
Hello there, this is a cool signature! You can even make your own wow! I really need somebody to check my game for bugs, MineQuest Idle its not the highest quality of games, but its an improvement from my previous ones

I understand the restriction but why 10 it really annoys. put it on 30 or 40 and make people a Scratcher after 4 months in order to make it easier for the servers.

Well that’s what the suggestions forum is for I understand the restriction but why 10 it really annoys. put it on 30 or 40 and make people a Scratcher after 4 months in order to make it easier for the servers.

And then someone will ask why there are only 30 or 40. Cloud variables used to hold thousands of digits but a decision was obviously made to limit them and given the general aims of Scratch as a language to learn coding I think it's fair enough that the ST keep them limited, especially if this allows resources to be used for improving Scratch - I'd much rather have file input and output and decent string handling than move cloud data.
In any case this isn't really a scripting question.

Keep in mind that unrestricted chats in-game are not allowed on scratch- you have to send something like a set of pre-made emojis instead.

WOAH, that is TOO much. 1KB of cloud variables per project is enough
see? its really big. work with it.
scratchers on the forums from 10-500 posts have at most, a 7 short sentence span for replies. if you cant keep your posts in this range, then dont act suprised when someone asks for simplified version

1KB is not large, it is 1000 bytes, a rich text file just containing the letter e is 384 bytes. note the actual amount of data all 10 cloudd variables store is 1063 bytesWOAH, that is TOO much. 1KB of cloud variables per project is enough

The average project with no costumes or large sounds with just code is ~20kb for 100 blocks, 1kb isn't that large. bro all my save data smaller than that!

I recommend reading jvvg's essay about the scratch team before complaining, as it may change your opinion and provide insight on the topic.

This has been answered (sort of) but I just want to add that if you need that many cloud variables, try using a cloud list with each item acting like a cloud variable. I want to create a chat for a game I'm making and I am hitting my head because I need at least 11 cloud variables for the chat and for the game itself I need at least another 7 and more for another part (4). Why are their only 10 Cloud Variables in a Project?
Their servers wouldn't be able to handle more, so they had to set the restriction to 10 cloud variables.

That particular project probably isn’t performant enough to make a multiplayer game. I don’t think it is made for that. It would be possible to reuse variables and fit multiple things in a single one, however. They are.Cloud lists are not a thing. This has been answered (sort of) but I just want to add that if you need that many cloud variables, try using a cloud list with each item acting like a cloud variable. (#5)Do you know all other operations are done locally and don't require servers? Only cloud data does.
And then someone will ask why there are only 30 or 40. In any case this isn't really a scripting question.
There is also a restriction that only allows 256 digits in one cloud variable, and you can only update them 10 times a second. The reason is probably that the Scratch Team is afraid of users making use of cloud data to send unmoderated messages, as well as server resources, of course.

Why are their only 10 Cloud Variables in a Project?
Yes, but that was just an example. Many other cloud lists do exist, especially more efficient ones for that purpose. The specific point I tried to make was that it is practically possible to use a cloud list for such a mentioned purpose and that, though I didn't mention this originally, has been done alrighty. That particular project probably isn’t performant enough to make a multiplayer game. I don’t think it is made for that. It would be possible to reuse variables and fit multiple things in a single one, however. snip
