Compatibility. Companies don't make software for Linux because of small market share and people don't use Linux because of software support. This is a huge problem and may not be something Linux can get out of. But the Linux community is awesome, so we'll see what happens in the coming years.
Not to mention that programs for running software for other OSes on Linux/MacOS/iPhoneOS most likely exist at this point.
If we can make Linux software run on i*OS/MacOS/Windows why can't/shouldn't we make that software run on Linux. We have!

Wine (+ available utilities to use alongside) to run most Windows applications.
Proton (+ available utilities) to run Windows games (flawless for most titles, even AAA
2 Popular anti-cheat software has been made available for Linux
Many native Linux titles

no MacOS Software on Linux yet, probably easy to port considering the similarities between the operating systems

Fun_Cupcake_i81: What, were you expecting not to see the utc - 12 thing again? THE UTC - 12 THIGN ALWAYS RETURNS. ALWAYS.
medians: I knew it would happen. I was the one who started it last year.
Fun_Cupcake_i81: Well then if you didn't want it back maybe you need to time travel to last year and fix that

Oh wait if you could time travel I think we all know exactly when you would go-

user2: But this is medians we're talking about, so “from 2.0” can mean the same thing as “from five seconds ago”.

It's really easy to port things to and from MacOS… It's unfortunate that no devs do this.

It's really interesting, I've seen quite a few people now reacting to Linus's Daily Driver challenge thing with Linux, and some are suggesting that he may be trolling the Linux community- I haven't taken the time to watch though them, but it's interesting nonetheless.

I think there are some cases where I was a bit, eh, but I think Linus is pointing out some serious issues in Linux.

Also, the point made made here is really good.

Can't wait until the day comes when WinNT has 1% market share. Really, Windows 11 kiosk mode is a joke. Nobody's using a TPM 2.0 chip for a photo slideshow.

Well, Luke has been using Linux for over 2 years and still had some issues. Linus, not so much… He had many more issues but they both had things like NVIDA graphics cards which don't help. Anybody who thinks that they were trolling has to realize that they're supposed to be average users in these departments.

yeah, linus deleting the pop gui wasn't his fault, it was the fault of the broken steam package

not always. look at Vorbis. it was a free format competing against non-free formats (WMA, AAC, MP3). Using the GPL would hinder its adoption, since proprietary media players are used a lot.

True, I think Stallman himself said something (not endorsing all his views on software, just observing) to that effect.
