Why is Trending so broken?

I was talking to my family about it over dinner, and I couldn't explain it very well to my brother, so can you explain for me? I can't really describe it.

There's nothing on the wiki, and nobody knows the algorithm.
It's quite a mysterious page.

because there's no great way to appeal to everyone without becoming a huge data collection company

the scratch team fixing the ability to view unshared projects is an entirely good thing. it's a shame that it took them so long, but i'm actually incredibly relieved that work is even being done on it.

a project that isn't shared, should never have been visible to anyone but the creator and the scratch team. full stop.

all of these workarounds people are thinking of would never be implemented. they allow for private messaging, which can lead to Really Bad Things. if you want others to be able to see your projects, share it. it's that simple.

Yeah, how are we so sure it's “broken” if we don't even know how it works in the first place?

This is my forum signature! On a forum post, it is okay for Scratchers to advertise in their forum signature. The signature is the stuff that shows up below the horizontal line on the post. It will show up on every post I make.

Well it's definitely working differently to how it used to work, so it's either an accidental or deliberate change.

If it's an accidental change, then it's definitely “broken”, if it's a deliberate change, I urge the scratch team to look at the trending pages and the state of some of the projects on them, and ask themselves is the change having the effect they thought it would.

Because before you could always find a recent project if you scroll down enough pages, but now *some* newly released projects with hundreds of views and hearts don't appear at all in the list no matter how far down you scroll. The same projects are searchable if you search by project name, (however they are not appearing in the list in the correct position), but the same projects are NOT searchable by the author's name, when they should be.

All this is new behaviour that wasn't happening a few months ago.

I think it was a deliberate change, where now when you reshare a project it resets the share date

The problems I'm describing aren't about resharing.

Although it is possible they were caused by a poor attempt at solving the resharing issue.
