What is Squeak?

On my Ubuntu computer, I typed
sudo apt install scratch
and it installed something called “squeak.” Whenever I open the “squeak” app it opens an interface just like Scratch 1.4 and even has the Scratch logo, what's going on? This also happens with Linux enabled on my Chromebook and i type “sudo apt install scratch.”

I have lots of screenshots but CubeUpload seems to be down…

My browser / operating system: Ubuntu Linux, Firefox 91.0, No Flash version detected

What is Squeak?

Squeak is the programming language that Scratch 1.x was written in.

When you download Scratch 1.x on any OS, you're really just downloading the Squeak VM along with an included Scratch.image file to run in it (along with the sounds and costumes and sample projects…)

Ohh, okay. That explains a lot. I'll report this to be closed then.
