Warning suggestion

I think scratch needs warnings for certain things like if a project becomes too big, because I just get something that says “Project could not save” or “Something went wrong” but it never really tells me the problem so I always have to figure it out on my own.

i dont think your project has more than 20000 blocks and/or assets that are over 10MB and managed to save it without getting an error first.
It's most likely something with your computer.

I still feel like it's more of a problem with scratch if that's the case, because something so simple shouldn't be taking around 8,000 MB of memory.
It isn't a simple scratch project, but it's simple compared to alot games out there.
I have no idea why scratch needs so much memory to run.

Scratch itself is very inefficient, but I don't think it should be taking up so much RAM if that's what you're referring to.
Can you send me your game? It doesn't have to be shared, I just need a link.

Oh, wow…

This figure is a gross oversimplification of something that I calculated a while back in response to a topic asking about if there's a limit on the number of blocks in your project, and people have been parroting it ever since. There isn't a direct limit on the number of blocks in your project, but all of the code in your project (among other things) has to be stored in project.json, which is limited in size. You can learn more about that size limit (and the other one) here.

As for the suggestion itself, it might be partially a duplicate? A few months after Scratch 3.0 went live, I suggested that users receive specific warnings when they exceed the size limits. As for the other errors that Scratch gives you, such as the “Something went wrong” one, I wouldn't be surprised if the reason that the errors aren't more verbose is because there wouldn't be any useful information for an end user.
