So I like drawing people just like a lot of yall here
And there is one question that I ask people for over 50% of my person drawings. I've asked it to my brother so many times that I don't even say the question anymore, I just say, “Classic question” and he answers. (Or sometimes he doesn't answer because he's being uncooperative.)
“How old do they look?”
Rip… today I drew Volkner (again), who's supposed to be somewhere between 20 and 30 I think (my guess is 27). My brother said my drawing looks 30-something, my dad said he looks 20-something, and I think he looks 20-something but with a baby face which means he doesn't look how he's supposed to… actually he has some features of Spore members. He looked a bit like a cat, like Pascal, but also like he hasn't gotten enough sleep, like Kayor, and overall his face looks kinda teenager-ish but kinda beat up ‘n’ cr4p.
Gosh why is it so hard to make people look like themselves? I used to have all these characters and if I didn't write their name on the page, I wouldn't know who it was now because their appearances were either super inconsistent, or they all looked the same. Ughh.
On the bright side, his collar bone looks good.

I think there are many factors that contribute to the “age” of a face. So I like drawing people just like a lot of yall here

The main one, particularly with young characters (0-20), is the distance of all the features, particularly the forehead size and eye height- children generally have bigger foreheads with lower eyes and other features, with the eyes more around the middle of the head; adults features are much more spaced out on a more oval shaped head and tend to have a smaller gap between the hairline and the eyes, well, unless they're balding.
The second one is wrinkles and face details- the more creases you put on a face, the older it tends to look. Younger people typically tend to have minimal creases and lines when their faces are in a neutral position, while older people might have mouth, eye and forehead creases even when their faces are in a neutral position. The elderly (and those approaching that age) tend to have a lot of wrinkles all over. Wrinkles are generally caused by the sagging of skin as you age, hence why a wrinklier character would be perceived as older.
The other main aspect that really sways things is hair, clothing and makeup. People tend to present in more ‘mature’ way as they age, generally avoiding dramatic haircuts, makeup and clothes, though some people continue to dress how they like. There's also generational fashion trends to consider- someone's tastes in clothing can reflect their age, even through fashion genres.

Ey noice, I like the line shading. Perhaps you could do more with that, and have the big shadow also lines? Idk

Also same. while I don't dislike still life, I don't like drawing it. Because it winds up looking like poop and I'm like “Well, there goes an hour of my life I ain't gettin' back.”
