I'd like to write some fanfiction that people actually like rather that ones that just satisfy me. I know that goes against a writer's purpose but if I can get people to like it and please me then that's bonus points.

What's your favorite type of fanfiction?

Crossovers, shipping, extra adventures in a completely canon context, etc?

I'm not exactly much of a fanfic reader but if you want to appeal to more people than yourself I'd suggest starting by setting yourself a ‘small’ target audience (e.g: people who like a certain ship, people who interpret character x as y, people who enjoy x genre, etc) and then figuring out what they generally enjoy from a story. Just setting a broad target or people who read fanfiction is going to make it very hard to appeal to any of them- different people want different things from stories and you won't be able to appeal to them all.

How can one write about pain when one has never truly experienced it?

Just find descriptions of pain and work from those. Alternatively, go on reddit and search something like “painful activities” and that'll probably help you. Or horrify you. *shrugs*

I get too many story ideas. One of my latest is about Sumer (the mesopotamian region) due to the fact I don't think stories ever really cover it.

I will point out that the pain of a papercut and the pain of a piece of shrapnel going between your ribs and feeling yourself bleeding inside are two very different things.

I'm not talking about pain like a stubbed toe or a paper clip.

I'm talking about pain like the stuff that some North Korean prisoners go through, for example.

(LOL, when I first posted that it was meant to be a rhetorical question… XD)

Research, my dude. there are whole explanations of how many painful experiences feel and what fully happens during them. You can get a surprisingly accurate description for pretty much anything via researching and personal accounts.

Nah- I like them too, but only if they're well executed.

Also some people haven't had anything psychological happen to them yet.

Sometimes I think that I've suffered through psychological pain and then I think about what other people have gone through and go “Welp I'm a real schmoofus softflesh sympathyless snoodlearm doofus.”
