I sometimes find duplicate topics. What I would usually do when I find them is that I would reply, saying "This topic is a duplicate, please use the existing thread.“ I would then report the topic. Then, a Scratch Team member would reply, quoting my post, saying ”Thanks for the link! It looks like a duplicate, so I will close this to keep all the discussion in one spot."

But, something weird has happened. As usual, when I find duplicate topics, I would say the same thing, like the example above. I would then report it. However, at this point, the Scratch Team did not reply- the topic just got closed. It seemed like that I had closed the topic myself, when I did not. I was just wondering, why didn't the Scratch Team reply? Because they used to.

Here are examples of what I mean:

A reported topic that has been replied to by the Scratch Team.

A reported topic that has NOT been replied to by the Scratch Team

Another reported topic that has NOT been replied to by the Scratch Team

Something's weird here….. there has already been 2 topics like this in a row….

It's possible that the topic owner closed it, whoever closed it was in a rush, or they just didn't want to or feel the need to reply. Weird.

Hmmm… but I got to the topic just 40 minutes after it got created…. the Scratch Team wouldn't take that long to respond.

Maybe the admin who closed it forgot to say that he closed it.

Maybe the admin doesn't want a duplicate topic to be bumped…

Replying and saying “closed” just bumps it pointlessly, and since there's already a link, there's no need for another post just to close it.
