heck yeah, this is great

It’s such a little thing to weep—
So short a thing to sigh—

Xanic Payne: “Needs to get a life, actually put effort into things and… Not make music.”
A review done by Xanic Payne for Xanic Payne. Your wait is now worth it.

Songs We're Making and Creating Part 2: Revenge of the Music: Prepare Your Ears

01. PaulRHTJ - “Strength Within”
A nice track, but the instrumentation didn't always work with itself, particularly between the synths and the brass samples. A bit repetitive, and the melody didn't quite stand out as anything more than notes over the chord progression. 5/10
02. Skyline - “Lazy”
I know it takes a bit more effort to record yourself singing and playing a guitar solo, I'm really going to have to dock you on the singing. That said, it could be improved if you took the clothespin off your nose. The solo was nice and simple, fitting with the song, but I don't like the song's message. He wants to leave the girl, but he keeps stressing that he's happy and relaxed…probably a 4/10
03. slapperbob - “Why the sky is blue”
This would work great as a soundtrack to the first level of a 16-bit video game, where you're just learning the controls. Be that as it may, it does its own style complete justice and doesn't overdo anything. Simple and pleasant to listen to. 6/10
04. Predictions of Yesterday - “Great Battle”
The drum part sounds really odd, and the vocals are too quiet, but the chord progression was nice, and you didn't hesitate to leave it as a shorter song instead of lengthening it for no reason *cough*. It doesn't really make sense though, why would they be all prepared for a battle and not know why their enemy is fighting them? 4/10
05. %%% - “I'm the black one!”
0/10
06. birdsinbaskets & 30,000 foot view - “Food Frowns”
I really love the “30,000 foot view. and birdsinbaskets. in the world. in the week. this week, and every week.” line. I also like the instrumental, and while it's clear you weren't trying with the lyrics and singing, I think that's the point. 6/10
07. Makefire - “Moonlight”
*cough* I like the beat. Really, I do. It's kinda smooth, like moonlight, although that one synth doesn't always fit with the idea. I just think it's kinda pointless to stretch it out to 5 minutes when it's just the same thing over and over again. And even if it's a dance track, it's still repetitive and the beat is not so good that I can ignore that. 5.5/10
08. Probehead - “Generova”
I instantly fell in love with the soft, soothing guitar chords. The drums kinda killed that vibe you were going for, but I can still hold on to the feel if I work for it. I like most of the lyrics, the vocals could be improved, but what can you do? You really killed it on this song. (Although I have a soft spot for sevenths.) 7/10
09. Personal Mythologies - “Insects”
I like the idea of the song, and I love the ambient background. I just wish the one lyric was more profound and thought-provoking. It got kinda awkward since “The insects live without a burden, so why should I?” has a nice idea but it's just awkwardly worded. 6/10
10. Sometimes the Cat - “Guess who's not in the mood”
You're really developing a signature sound. I like the song's idea and execution, and it sounds like a Sometimes the Cat song. I can't really find anything specific to critique about it. 7.5/10
11. music - “Bi . Bu . Ba”
Calming and interesting, but too short. I think it achieved what you set out to do. 6/10
12. SpicyChorizo - “Narwhal”
First off, WHY DON'T YOU MAKE BEATS LIKE THIS ALL THE TIME? THIS IS SICK. It became less sick after 3 minutes of what boiled down to the same thing. Seriously, this is the one and only song you’ve ever made that had groove. The synth is weird though. 6.5/10
13. Family Knives - “Pudding”
It seems calming, and then you throw in a soca drum rhythm like it's a dance track. New things are added, all of which seem relaxing and calming, but the entire time, there is the soca rhythm kinda forcing it into a dance feel. Then there's a break, and it has a slightly more complex drum pattern, and the music has switched to fit the feel. It builds up to a climax that feels too intense for the song – and then abruptly stops. The song constantly changes, but never the melody chord progression, and it just feels forced into these changes. 4/10
14. birdsinbaskets - “Emotion”
The instrumentation is catchy. I like the way the high-pitched synths are slightly syncopated. I really like the fact that the instrumentation kinda comps with your silly lyrics. Silly lyrics is what I thought of them until I heard the line “it's the weekend.” Something about some lines you put in here just resonates with me on a level that honestly surprises me! You make putting almost no effort into making a song cool, and it actually produced a pretty cool song. 7/10
15. Spiffy Flinger - “Claustrophobia”
It's a nice concept, and the chord progressions are good, the music all fits together without a hitch and it's mixed well. The only problem is that the singing is a little sub-par, but hey. 6.5/10
16. SEXY DUBS - “WINDOWSBEEBPER”
*shrill beeping*/10
17. Slightly Musical Conehead - “Empty”
The music sounds nice and rocking, but the constant 16th note fill on the drums gets old really fast, and I would have liked to hear open hi-hat on every beat. The long chords section feels off musically, but maybe that was intentional? Besides the drums, the main other problem is that the vocals are mixed way too low. I can't understand what you're saying. The solo was also lurching and in poor taste; this isn't the song for a solo, especially not this type of solo. 6/10
18. Mochi - “Tuesday Afternoon”
Already I note the nice chord progression and the nice guitar voice. The drums were a little disappointing, but they fit pretty well with the type of sound you're going for. The only real problem with it is that it's missing something to spruce it up. It would be fine as baackground mussic, but it needs something more. Oh, and you messed up around 2:00. 6.5/10
19. Kitchen Magician - “Unrest”
The first thing I noticed with this song is its length, and I have to admit, I thought, Aw man, 6 minutes long? And it was too long, I was right. But more on that later. The song starts off with a nice classical guitar pattern, and I have to admit the progression sounds nice. But when you start to make the song more “heavy,” it doesn't work with the noteflight classical guitars and electric bass, and your odd drum parts don't help. The drumming does even out after the fill. It just can't go anywhere when you don't put in any dynamics and you keep changing things around. Honestly, this could be split into 2 or 3 songs. As far as the composition goes in terms of “metalness”, I'm pretty sure these parts would sound pretty awesome if played by heavy metal guitarists. But it just doesn't work with the current instrumentation. 4.5/10
20. Playzööki - “whoop32”
I like it, although the instrumentation could be improved. What's really interesting, though, is that your song sounds “heavier” than Kitchen Magician's, although his composition is more complex. As far as metal goes, this is well done, but again I'm going to have to call you out on the length of the song. Solos were nice. It does feel repetitive at parts, but overall it doesn't detract from the song. And for some reason, sometimes the music falls off the beat just a little. 5/10
21. Xanic Payne - “- Butterfly Free -”
I like your voice. It works well, and would work better with music around it, but it's not so good that it works all by itself. There's no central story that comes across through the song. I do like when you start the next chorus before the last one is finished, so your voice clashes with itself in some sort of major second-y way. Was that intentional? 4/10
22. whizzer0 - “EmujijumE”
Whoa. Okay. This song is just a mix of a bunch of samples and synths and music you made with Seaquence. It also happens to go on for 10 minutes. There is no order whatsoever. Though I have to say, there are individual parts that I pick out that sound nice, and that brings your score up to 1/10
