Remaking the Beatles' "Rubber Soul" - All Kinds of Musicians Welcome - Scratch Compilation Album

sup dawg, it's your main man all4one here, and i got some groovy propositions for u

December 3rd, 2015 will be the 50th anniversary of the Beatles' “Rubber Soul” (1965). The album is usually considered to be their first real artistic statement in an album format, dabbling in folk music, complex harmonies, more mature, world-weary subject matter, etc.

TOTALLY DIDN'T COPY AND PASTE THAT FROM WIKIPEDIA! THAT WAS ALL WRITTEN BY ME!!!

I was thinking that to celebrate the upcoming 50th anniversary, we could all pull together make a compilation in tribute to the album. Now to answer some questions you may be asking to yourself.

How would this compilation work?

The track listing will be the same as the original Rubber Soul album. Artists on Scratch will be able to submit their covers of the songs. You can submit as many as you like, but only one song per artist will be included on the final compilation. The covers don't have to be completely faithful to the original ones. You can arrange it in any way you'd like. It can be completely close to the original or it could be completely different. It's a free world out there, Tommy. Take advantage of it.

Are there any exceptions to those rules?

Well, yeah. Like I said, only one song per artist will be included on the compilation, but a cover performed by another project of yours, such as a band, could be collected alongside that one song.

And yeah, December 3rd, 2015 is the date of release for the compilation. Yeah, it's a while from now, but it gives us a lot of time to perfect our tracks, y'know? Gotta look on the bright side, Jackie. Plus releasing it on any other day would kinda ruin the point of a “50th Anniversary” release.

I'm not quite sure what we'll do with cover art, but that's probably something we'll discuss a bit more in the future. If you're an artist and you have any ideas, don't refrain from telling me.

So yeah, if all my above rambling still seems confusing to you, or you still have more questions, don't be afraid to ask me. I'll answer each of your questions as concisely as possible.

Now then, let's see where this project will take us. If you haven't heard the album yet, you can listen to it right here. Or, if you're one'a those audiophiles that would prefer to listen to the album in high quality, here's a backup link.

you can submit any songs you like.
multiple people can submit the same song. i guess in the end, if i have multiple versions of the same song, then i'll just choose what i consider the best version.

CURRENT ROSTER:

veggieman001 (aka Sometimes the Cat) (song undetermined)
jji7skyline (aka Skyline) (song undetermined, most likely “In My Life”)
All4one (aka Spiffy Flinger) (most likely doing “I'm Looking Through You”)
Ersatz- (aka Luke Slomba) (song confirmed: “You Can't See Me”)
NeilWest (aka SpicyChorizo) (song confirmed: “Girl (SpicyChorizo ‘Secretly A Male’ Mix”)
puppetadventurer (song undetermined)

Key:

bold = Song officially submitted
underline = Will be taking part officially, but no song submitted yet
italics = Will maybe take part??? Perhaps? Perchance?
red = There's a problem with the submitted song that needs to be sorted out.

Which album? There were two versions, The US album and the British Album. They had different track listings.

Oh yeah, I was thinking I probably should have pointed that out. For this, we'll be following the original UK version with the following track listing:

01. Drive My Car
02. Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)
03. You Won't See Me
04. Nowhere Man
05. Think for Yourself
06. The Word
07. Michelle
08. What Goes On
09. Girl
10. I'm Looking Through You
11. In My Life
12. Wait
13. If I Needed Someone
14. Run For Your Life

do we need to sound like the original or may we take challenging and large artistic leaps

yup
large artistic leaps would be preferable, in fact

but any arrangement of the song is accepted - whether it's totally close to the original or drastically different
