ITopic - What is Necroposting and when should it be reported? [Guide]

So far, I haven't found anything by the ST that says what necroposting is and that its not allowed. This is a problem and a loophole…

Actually, you have! Harakou is part of the ST - and that's who I quoted on the first post!

Not so quite necropost again…

Is it ironic that this is probably the most necroposted topic of all time?

This has basically turned into a competition to see who can necropost the farthest out

I agree.

Folks, although this is an ITopic (and it doesn't really matter how old it is), its important that you are still contributing to the topic. Bumping it up just for the heck of it can be considered spam. So, please don't “necropost” here unless you're adding value to the discussion.

When a particular forum has too many stickies, there are something called “iTopics”. They are similar to stickies, since they give out information. They stand for “index topic”.

How to propose for sticky?

My kumquats and forum signatures ate each other. Luckily, I did not like any of them anyways.
The evil kumquat must have some relation with thanos cat. Evil kumquat is 2.0 and thanos cat is 3.0
April 1st is this Saturday. Details here.

You click the report button at the bottom right of the post and enter in the box something on the lines of “reporting to be stickied” (I'd recommend giving a reason). But this doesn't need to be stickied as it is already an iTopic.

How about contributing to necrodiscussions? Essentially, it's somebody else who necroposts, and you, ever so oblivious, reply to it “because it was at the top of the forum”. I do that sometimes. Where would that stand?

Example:

User A necroposts on a discussion.
User B answers User A without realizing that the topic is quite old

Infrequently active.

It feels weird to see how far we've come. I hope you're well, wherever you are!

If the topic is still relevant and User A adds something to the discussion, it's okay to answer. If the topic has already been resolved, it's best to simply report the topic to be closed if the original poster is inactive.

But if User A didn't add something to the discussion and User B asks them to not not necropost, is it okay for User B to answer User A's question as well, before reporting the thread to be closed?

No. I mean like User B posts as if the topic was still relevant, even if the topic was old, since the date was not realized. Here's a better example:

User A necros something completely useless on a resolved topic.
User B posts on the topic normally, not realizing that the post is quite old. The User A necropost is not noticed by User B,

In other words, I'm referring to accidental necroposting because you didn't check the date and you replied because “it was in the top of the forum”

Infrequently active.

That's what I do. In that situation, I tell the user not to necropost (and / or to thread-hijack), but I answer their question anyways and ask them to make a new thread in the case they have a question.

For example, recently, someone necroposted on a thread that already was solved, and their question wasn't relating at all to the original topic's subject. So I told them bla bla bla dOn'T Do tHiS DoN't dO THat, but I still answered their question. Hopefully that helps visualize the situation better.
(I should ask paddle for clarification though)

The most probable thing I can think of would be another user noticing the necropost, who would tell both posters that the thread is already solved. Then they would report the topic to be closed and let the mods close it. We won't devour you if you accidentally reply to a thread that has been necroposted on though :P Just make sure to always check a thread's date before posting on it.

But that's just my point of view, I think a Scratch Team member's point of view and explanation would be better than mine.
