Can somebody review my games: http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/12029542/ and http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/12357301/ ? I don't want to do my own projects as that would probably be biased.

Doors Aurora

“Doors Aurora is one of the most advanced OSes on Scratch! You can download apps, play games, listen to music and more!”

OS Design 5/10
This operating system, while advanced in coding, does not have some of what most scratch OS'es have. It lacks things like a notepad program or calculators. Only the about app window can be dragged. However, the inclusion of unique apps such as ping and a settings app that is not just “change background” makes it gain points.

Originality 8/10
This operating system has a lot of twists. One example is the ability to switch the colour theme of the windows. The ability to drag apps and set the icon sizes are also not common in most Scratch OS'es. The logo is also pretty cool. However, the user interface and log-in screen were really similar to the one from Windows 7 or Vista.

Ease Of Use 5/10
This project has controls that are a no-brainer (easy to use). However, the lack of instructions is something that prevents it from getting a full 5/10. The about app is likely made to mimic real life OS about windows and does not have instructions on how to use it at all.

Graphics 4/5
This operating system has great graphics and the ability to customize it, with the icon size and window colour options. The animated menu is great. However, a bug prevented the backgrounds from changing so it will get a 4/5.

Sound 3/5
The operating system only has one song. The song's quality is dependent on what kind of music you like, but the song itself in a music player which bugs up and cannot close because the music could not be stopped. The beginning sound effect is okay. There are not any other sound effects or songs as far as I know.

Firing Round 6/10 (This is the addition of the following scores)
Reliability 0/2
0 (Very Glitchy) 1 (A few glitches) 2 (Hardly any glitches)
Variety 2/2
0 (Little to do) 1 (Decent amount) 2 (Lots of things to do)
Lag 1/2
0 (Very slow) 1 (Decent in most places) 2 (No lag)
Replay Value 1/2
0 (Would never reuse/ did not want to finish it the first time) 1 (Might reuse) 2 (Too good to stop!)
Programming 2/2
0 (Simple to make) 1 (Fairly advanced) 2 (It was very complex)

Overall Experience 35/50
This operating system is well programmed and well done, with a lot of settings to choose from. However, due to the lack of instructions and the lack of things like a notepad or a calculator, the glitches in ping and the music player, and the non-functional background switcher made it lose a few points.

TOTAL: 66/100
Quite a cool project!

Key
0-19 I could have made that in my sleep!
20-39 Needs a lot of work.
40-59 An average project I suppose.
60-79 Quite a cool project.
80-94 Wow! It only needs a bit of tweaking.

I reviewed it. You got a 66/100, which is 45 points higher than the review Borrego6165 did and a “quite a cool project” according to the chart.

Thanks! I did want to point out that you need to click the background preveiw in order to change the background. I thought I clarified that in the OS.

Blackjack

“The goal is to get the cards to total as close to 21 as possible, but not over.”

Game Design 7/10
Based on the classic card game twenty-one, you must bet money and hope to get 21, or as close as possible to 21 using the cards handed to you. If you have a low number to start with, you can get another card to see if it goes any higher. Go too high, and it's game over! This is simply fun, and I spent a good few minutes playing this and betting loads of money away. It's a shame there aren't more casino games within this, as it did start to get repetitive and would have scored an extra three points.

Originality 5/10
It hasn't been done on Scratch before, or at least I haven't seen it myself over the last three years, but nevertheless this cannot gain more than five points because it is the sole twenty-one game with nothing new or exciting. If this was included with other casino games, along with some fresh ones thrown in, this would have been so much more fun to play… and original! There could have been bandit machines, roulette, and even poker! Packed with AI competitors, you've got yourself a cracking game!

Ease Of Use 3/5
Very simple to pick up and use, although there were no in-game tutorials and when I got my first two cards it would not show me what the cards totalled up to.

Difficulty Balance 2/5
In real blackjack, you should have the choice to use the ACE as a 1 or an 11, but that wasn't allowed here. Another issue was that because you only have two choices, hit or stay, and this game overall is mostly based on luck, which sometimes makes it less challenging and other times more. To combat this, instead of giving more options (which would ruin the game), there needs to be more casino games, each with their own challenges.

Graphics 1/5
The green background was sickly, and the cards looked squashed as though they were ripped off of google. Perhaps a casino in the background would have been nice, with a bright menu leading to the needed tutorial screen, which also leads to “rooms”, each with their own games in them would have made this a lot better.

Sound 2/5
The song is an interesting choice, #Pokerface# by Lady Gaga, although I did find it annoying after a little while. The trouble with using songs like that are that not everyone will like them, plus you may run into copyright issues if this is uploaded elsewhere. Games generally use generic background music so that it pleases everyone. There are also no sound effects, or at least no memorable ones otherwise I'd of recalled some!

Firing Round 5/10 (This is the addition of the following scores)
Reliability 2/2
0 (Very Glitchy) 1 (A few glitches) 2 (Hardly any glitches)
Game Length 0/2
0 (Too Short) 1 (Descent Length) 2 (Long lasting or endless)
Game Pace 2/2
0 (Very slow or too long for it's own sake) 1 (Quite engrossing) 2 (Very well paced and fun)
Replay Value 1/2
0 (Would never replay/ did not want to finish it the first time) 1 (Might replay) 2 (Too good to stop!)
Programming 0/2
0 (Simple to make) 1 (Fairly advanced) 2 (It was very complex)

Overall Experience 20/50
If the casino experience was improved with different rooms and games, each costing different amounts to enter, this would have been great! I could have started with barely any money on the cheapest machines, and worked my way up like in some sort of RPG. There could have been a shop where I use my money to buy accessories and clothes. If you don't have a suit, you can't go in the lounge for example.

Although it was addictive at first, the game got repetitive and boring, and as I've said earlier the basic graphics and the one of song does not help this. It was a below average experience.

Wasteland

“Fight enemies in this epic turned based strategy game!”

Game Design 9/10
Personally, I don't like TBS games. There, I said it! However, I know how popular they are so I'll try not to make this review biased. The turn based elements are done very well, and trying to score a 5/5 on the power meter when attacking enemies is actually fun! There are lots of enemies to attack, as well as nice upgrades in the shop to collect. Sure this isn't my kind of fun, but I know that loads of TBS fans will love it! I refuse to score it a ten for my personal beliefs, but it's playable for most.

Originality 10/10
This has been done time and time again, but the unique characters with their fairly original plot making this a nice change from the manga style TBS games. Maybe some exploration elements would have scored the game design higher, but the achievements save this from scoring less than a ten.

Ease Of Use 4/5
There are plenty of handy tips in this game, plus a relatively simple to use turn based fighting system. You click on a unit and click on an enemy to attack with them, simple! You then gain bonus hit points by pressing SPACE on the higher numbers when the power meter pops up. My problem with the power meter was that if I pressed SPACE on four for example, the meter would freeze, telling me I landed on four. This is good, until I look up at the battle field (or the road or the desert) and it says “+3”. Plus, it does get confusing in the menu when buttons that aren't meant to be on screen pop up. Both of these problems contribute to a point loss.

Difficulty Balance 4/5
I struggled to get past level one a few times, however I managed to work it out. For a first level it was too hard, but other than that the challenge is great. Apparently people who usually play RTS games are finding this much easier than myself, so I'll blame it on my lack of experience with these games. This would have scored a five if the bonus tiles worked in level one, such as the question mark tile. I lost one of my units because instead of attacking the enemy with my turn I used it to reach the question mark.

Graphics 3/5
Most of the graphics are nicely done, such as the smooth buttons in the menu and the rain effect. There are also smooth fade transitions between screens, which separate parts of the game to make it easier to navigate. The characters are drawn nicely, but would have benefited from being put into a paint editor and had their white edges removed. During cutscenes the text would appear before it was stamped, making it look very odd. The menu's background appears to be from google as well, so it doesn't count I'm afraid. There's nothing wrong with three points though! One point lost for the white edges and the text that appeared before it was stamped, a second point for the menu's background along with the full screen lag.

Sound 5/5
The music was great, and there were plenty of sound effects. I just felt that the cutscene music was too relaxing considering I had just heard dramatic music in the menu. There could have been more tension if a different song was picked, or even better, some sort of wind ambiance that played in the background.

The voice acting was OK, and the audio quality could have been improved, but overall the music for the menu and the levels, along with the sound effects and the voice acting earn this a five. The problems were so minor they didn't affect the score.

Firing Round 7/10 (This is the addition of the following scores)
Reliability 1/2
0 (Very Glitchy) 1 (A few glitches) 2 (Hardly any glitches)
Game Length 2/2
0 (Too Short) 1 (Descent Length) 2 (Long lasting or endless)
Game Pace 2/2
0 (Very slow or too long for it's own sake) 1 (Quite engrossing) 2 (Very well paced and fun)
Replay Value 0/2
*I'm not an TBS fan
0 (Would never replay/ did not want to finish it the first time) 1 (Might replay) 2 (Too good to stop!)
Programming 2/2
0 (Simple to make) 1 (Fairly advanced) 2 (It was very complex)

Overall Experience 40/50
For a start, a “stash” is a load of goods and supplies; a “stache” is something you should look up on google! Other than some minor issues, this was a great experience for me. OK, so I had to pretend to like RTS games to enjoy it, but I'm sure that loads of scratchers would enjoy this. I wouldn't play this again, as stated by my above reason, but I'll give it a high experience score because I “know” it's good.

It's difficult for me to suggest improvements other than to make a completely different style of game, so all I'll say is that once the above problems are fixed, this will do a lot better.

What made this score so high was the “great” RTS elements, the story, the characters, the well-fitting music (albeit one song for the cutscenes wasn't so great) and the nice graphics. This will be fun for others, and that's what counts.

Thanks for your review. My next game is going to be very original, and it isn't RTS, so you'll be happy xD I can't spoil too much but it has something to do with being inside a living organism.
