89 digits: 3.1415926535897932384626433832795028841971693993751058209749445923078164062862089986820348
Memorized that in a time of 3 days, reciting it when I could.
I think the trick is to look at a set of three numbers such as 323 or 399 or 445 and look for rememberable patterns and/or musical notes to go along with those digits. For example, I remember 923 as 123 only the 1 is the opposite digit on the number table. It also helped me to repeat the six digits at a time that I memorize 6-9 times, and then try to recite all of the digits of pi along with those. Writing it own helps too. Write the new digits along with the ones you already know without looking at the information source. Then write it again after thinking about something else, and don't forget to cover up the numbers you wrote down earlier.
Sometimes a set of four digits is easier to memorize because it helps you keep a mental rhythm when remembering the numbers.
MEMORIZING NUMBERS IN SETS OF 3-4 WITH ABOUT TWO SETS AT A TIME REALLY INCREASE YOUR MEMORIZATION EFFICIENCY.
