Make a new category for global and Make a Category for local on the Explore Page

We all know it by now. The explore page is global. Who knows? Is it a bug or a feature? Due to this change, there have been some problems with finding the correct language in a project, but I still found a few awesome projects on the Explore page even though they're not English. From what the community has said, this isn't what they want. I personally find the current Explore page amazing so why not Make a new Global category and one for Local

Pros
- People can visit projects in their native language and visit other language projects
- This can unite the community even more (see #3)
- More original projects can be found

Cons
- There is the language barrier

Scratch is a free coding website where kids can learn to code on their own devices and share what they’ve built and how they solved coding puzzles. Anyone can sign up, set up a username, and enter basic coding tutorials to test their coding skills. On top of their coding skills, kids can unlock special badges when they’re through with the tutorials.

For children aged 11-16, Scratch’s content covers topics such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and basic coding skills. The website gives kids fun activities to learn by creating games, drawing cute animations, playing various games, and solving puzzles.

Scratch: Sign Up

Scratch doesn’t just give you a place to try coding on your own devices. You can also connect with other children and take part in community coding challenges. On top of that, if you sign up with Scratch’s adult social network, you’ll receive access to other games, videos, and tools for kids.

I think that making the explore page global connects the scratch community more, so support.

I don't know about that. If the Explore page is already “global,” adding an option to get away from this global Explore page would probably just encourage users to not view the global projects (they'd rather view projects they can understand, after all). I would therefore think that this unites the community less — unless you mean “unite the local community even more.” But I would think those who speak the same language are already united pretty well.

This is my forum signature! On a forum post, it is okay for Scratchers to advertise in their forum signature. The signature is the stuff that shows up below the horizontal line on the post. It will show up on every post I make.

I was a Scratch Team member from May 10th 2019 to October 29th 2021. I reached 20,000 forum posts on June 24th 2024.

Semi-support. It is worth noting that communities speaking the same language are quite united, and in Scratch we want to bring people from different countries closer to each other, so global trends make sense. However, it's a pretty good idea, and I'd love to read what other people say.

Hm. No support. No support because for many projects, you don't need to know a language to view it. Plus, why would local ever be helpful? To meet people near you? You shouldn't share personal info so I mean-

Well, you can view all projects that are shared regardless of language but you do need to know that language to understand it.

Example:
This project is a project written entirely in Japanese. Sure I can move around, but I have no idea what most of it means.

Therefore “There is the language barrier” is a con

I assumed that people reading would think local is in your whole country (US, Mexico, Canada) not in your current city, town, or village local

This is semi-related to the topic but I wish the explore page turned back to “Local” again. I do appreciate everyone on scratch being united but it's hard to enjoy the explore page anymore when I can't understand half of it.

I do not support this.
I, for one, like seeing projects in other languages, even if I don't understand them, and they sometimes can be better than English ones. Making the page hide projects in different languages could cause people to miss out on some of what others make.

How will this suggestion hide projects? This suggestion just makes a category for the original Explore page format and the current Explore page. It doesn't hide anything like the Games or Tutorials categories.
