    Cabin Timeline

July 1st: Campers only know that they have been ordered by their leaders to collect enough anomalies to build a simulation to compete with the other side. Hope is busy exploring simulations, searching for anomalies and a solution to the problem that their world faces.

July 4th: Katie, who was undercover in the government, suddenly cuts off contact. The rebels believe she has been captured, and her division goes in to spy on President Wari (who will be administrating their word count studio).

July 7th: Campers in each word group should have completed the task that the leaders have given them, and they now know that they are assembling the pieces of a tool that will mean life or death for their world, but they don't yet know what it does. The main cabin thumbnail changes, showing the glitches that are becoming widespread. The campers start gathering enough anomalies to build another simulation.

July 11th: Hope gets back and pushes harder for them to gather anomalies and parts of the tool. The campers don't know it yet, but she has seen many possible futures, and none of them have the campers succeed in saving the world.

July 14th: Campers should have completed or are almost done with their second tasks, and Willow broadcasts an urgent message to the rebels saying that they found Katie. Soon after, Katie reappears, having escaped the government with Willow's help. She has discovered what the government was hiding: their world isn't real, it's digital, and the government has been hiding the real world behind the simulated walls. Katie has also discovered that the anomalies are proof that the simulation is coming apart. In response, Willow broadcasts the truth about the government and their world to all campers. The main cabin thumbnail changes again, showing more glitches.

July 15th: After a day of panic, Wari makes a public statement acknowledging that the rebels were right, but affirms that they kept the secrets for the right reason. She explains how the Earth was destroyed, and how the simulation is the only thing keeping them alive. She also admits that the servers that keep the world together are having problems, and that's why the anomalies are appearing. However, Wari emphasizes that they are working on building a terraforming tool, so that they can shift the world back to its original state, and it will seem as if they had never left the Republic. The rebels don't believe that the government still has good intentions, and they think that the government wants the tool to remain in absolute power. The rebels resolve to get the tool and save the world before the government can.

At the end of this week, the government and rebels each have 6 pieces, for a total of 12 parts of the terraforming tool.

July 22st-31st: The main cabin thumbnail shows its glitchiest state. Each word group should have completed their third task, but they quickly realize that they won't be able to finish in time. They need a total of 20 pieces, and each side only has 6 so far. Hope realizes one possible solution that she never tried in her simulations: The government and rebels decide to put aside their differences and work together to get the remaining 8 pieces. These parts come from the completion of 8 collaborative tasks. The campers, as a cabin, must gather enough anomalies to create 4 simulations and must work as a team to complete the tasks and gather all the parts of the terraforming tool. Then they have to complete one final task to power up and use the tool (maybe a group of campers works together to write the story of how they do so), to make Earth habitable again just as the simulation walls crumble down.

At the end of camp, the thumbnail changes to its final form, a world of harmony between the rebels and government.

Vi (fairy tales), Soki and Dawn (adventure), Luna (horror), Gee and Lily (real-fi), Addie (non-fi), Juli (fantasy), Luka (dystopian), Moss (myth), Jia (mystery), Mayhem (script), and Sun (hi-fi) have agreed to help us with the storyline! Total: 11 cabins, 13 people

Cabin Guide Slides: https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/post/6338589/
Dailies
July 1: Welcome to the first day of camp! Today’s daily is to introduce yourself to your fellow fan-fi campers! Feel free to mention your nickname, pronouns, hobbies, and favorite fandoms! We’re excited to meet you! ^^

July 2: Let’s talk about SWC! If you’re a returning camper, let us know what cabins you’ve been in before, and what you enjoyed about past sessions! If you’re new, comment what you’re excited about as a Fan-fi camper!

July 3: One of the highlights of the Fan-fi Republic is the Simulation technology. Write 200 words about what would happen if you could create and step inside a virtual reality based on a story that you or someone else wrote!

July 4: It’s Mental Health Monday! For this daily, take a few minutes to do something you find relaxing. Read a book, take a walk, or do some yoga. Whatever it is, make sure that you take a break from stress. You are not required to write anything, but if you want, you can write a reflection (less than 100 words) on what you did!

July 5: It’s time to collaborate with your cabinmates! Pick a partner, and then take turns commenting until you have each written 100 words, to create a 200 word story in total.

July 6: As writers and readers, we’re all aware of how we can travel the world in stories without taking a step. Imagine what would happen if you could combine two or more of your favorite fictional places! Write at least 150 words describing the setting you created.

July 7: The Fan-fi Republic buzzes with activity, especially with the current search for anomalies. Write 250 words about the daily routine of a member of your word group (Government Researcher or Agent, or Rebel Spy or Hacker). What’s the first thing you do in the morning? How do you get to work, and what do you do there once you arrive? What do you do in your free time? Feel free to reference the cabin guide and your word count group as you write!

July 8: Do you have a favorite word or two? What about three? Comment three of your favorite words in the chat, and then use someone else’s favorite words in a 150-word story.

July 9: (Cabin Wars) It’s time to RP! Today’s daily is to spend the day talking in RP format! Feel free to pop over to the Mythfic RP to interact with our sibling cabins. As a reminder, everything you write in RP format counts for words, so don’t forget to add them in your word count studio! :D

July 10: Imagine that your character is wandering around the Republic, maybe spying on the government or hacking the government servers, or maybe you are controlling the ‘dangerous’ rebels from protesting or just working in the government building? Write 250 words to describe what you would do.

July 11: It's another Mental Health Monday! Today, your task is to drink a glass of water. It's important to stay hydrated! ^^ Optionally, you can write something about the water, but make sure it's less than 75 words!

July 12: Look around, right now. What catches your eye? Is it a light switch? A dream catcher? Whatever it is write a 150-word story containing this object, whether it is from the object's perspective or from another perspective.

July 13: Pretend you suddenly bodyswap with a fellow camper that is on the opposite side as you. If you are a rebel, you swap with a government official, or vice versa. Find a partner and ‘swap bodies’ with them. Write a 200-word story about it, and share it with your partner. Give feedback to your partner and see what they give you! Feel free to share the story with the entire cabin!

July 14: Pick a song whose lyrics match the struggle or feelings of one of your characters. Then, write 150 words describing what each line would mean to them and how it fits their situation.

July 15: Team up with one of your fellow campers and decide on a fandom and an event to change from the canon. Then, by yourself, write 150 words about a few things that would change as a consequence of that event. Once you’re done, look at what your teammate wrote. Feel free to compare and discuss!

July 16: Yesterday, some shocking revelations were revealed by the Fan-fi leaders. Were the rebels right about pushing for the truth, or were the government’s motives justified? Write 200 words about what your character feels about the news that they live within a computer simulation.

July 17: Ready for a challenge? By yourself, try writing a poem or story using ONLY two or three letter words. The piece must be more than or equal to 8 words.

July 18: Happy Monday! For today’s daily, take a break from the usual SWC tasks. Go over to the Mythfic Siblings Hangout and play some games with the Non-fi and Myth campers!

July 19: Everyone owns something that means a lot to them, but might only be seen as trash to others. Write a 100+ words description about that particular object that you love. Feel free to share it among your cabin mates!

July 20: For the residents of the Fan-fi Republic, there are only 11 days left before the simulation walls fall away. Is your character prepared for the possible end of the world, or are they still in denial? Write at least 200 words about what your character is doing.

July 21: Find one of your unfinished short stories (or poems) that you would like to share among others. Find a partner in your cabin and let them finish your story with their own imagination, while you complete theirs.

July 22: Use a random sentence generator to get a random sentence. Then create a story in which you use each letter of the random sentence as the start of a word in your story. Feel free to share it with the rest of the cabin! :D

July 23: (Cabin Wars) As the destruction of the Fan-fi Republic draws closer, the government and rebels have decided to work together to save the world. Team up with a camper from the other side, and create an RP where your characters meet and get over their previous rivalry and differences.

July 24: Yesterday’s daily was to RP with a camper from the other side of the Fan-fi Republic. Today, write a 200-word journal entry in which your character reflects on the experience. If you didn’t RP with anyone yesterday, write about what your character thinks about working with campers from the other side.

July 25: Welcome to the last Mental Health Monday of July! Have you been staring at a device for quite a while? Take some time to go outside, find a comfortable place to sit at (backyard, porch, the park, etc.) and just enjoy the weather outside. Make sure to stretch your strained body and intake some vitamin D! If you choose to do so, write a small paragraph about something that makes you feel calm on paper.

July 26: Think about a story that you’ve recently read or watched. In the comments, vaguely share a plot point from that story, without specifically mentioning where it came from. Then, write at least 300 words based on someone else’s plot point. Feel free to share it with your cabinmates!

July 27: The end of the world is coming soon for the Fan-fi Republic, but there’s still hope that you and your cabinmates will be able to save it. If you succeed, life will still go on after the simulation walls fail. Write at least 200 words about what your character thinks will happen after the world is saved.

July 28: Have you ever read a book or watched a movie in which you saw a fictional food that you would love to try in real life? Think up at least 3 fictional foods from your favorite fandoms, and write at least 150 words describing a dinner in which you combine these foods. ;)

July 29: Think about the kinds of weather that you enjoy… and the types that you don’t. Write at least 200 words in which a character experiences your least favorite weather.

July 30: Happy International Day of Friendship! Write a poem for one of your friends, whether on Scratch or in real life, and share it with them!

July 31: It’s the last day of SWC! We’re so grateful to have had such amazing campers, and we look forward to seeing you all again, whether in one of the upcoming sessions of SWC or just around Scratch! For the final Fan-fi daily of the session, write a thank you note to those who have made your session special. Don’t forget that all thank you notes count as words, and add them in your word count studios! ^^

Weeklies
Week 1: For the first Fan-fi weekly, think about what would happen in your favorite fandom if the hero was swapped with the villain. How would the story change? Would the original villain be able to save the day, or would the former hero ultimately win the battle against good? Write at least 700 words about what would happen.

Week 2: Have you ever read a book or watched a movie with such a unique, interesting world that you wished you could live inside it? Write a 700-word story in which you insert a character in this world. What do they do? How do they interact with other people and the environment, and how do they respond to the settings and situations in the original fandom?

Week 3: Every story contains background characters that mostly serve to fill in empty space, as nameless bystanders, members of an audience, or unimportant assistants. Write at least 700 words about the story of one of these background characters in your favorite fandom. You can make up a character who might have been present during the story, or use one that already existed in the book or movie. What does this background character do while the protagonist was off saving the world? :)

Week 4: This week, it’s time to take a break from boring, one-storyline writing and delve into the world of choose-your-own-adventure fiction! This type of writing lets readers control some of the main character’s actions with a prompt at the end of each section directing them to different pages based on their choice. For example, at a part where the main character has to choose between two paths in a maze, you might tell the reader to skip to page 5 to follow path 1, or page 7 to follow path 2 (or give them a link there). Write a 700-word fanfiction story in which the main character’s story depends on the reader’s choices! Feel free to share it with your cabinmates!

[CLOSED] Collab on a generic platformer

EDIT: I got rid of all the initial planning stuff, and I'm putting the official lore dump here for reference:

Fanfiction Republic Lore

Long ago, Earth was full of stories and people. It was an exciting new time for the planet as innovation reached never-before-seen levels, with new ideas and technology being developed almost constantly.

One of the most popular innovations during this time was the rise of virtual reality. As the technology progressed, it boosted the impact of science even further. Inside the VR worlds, scientists, researchers, and ordinary people could test out inventions, examine courses of action, and simulate their own creative stories.

However, not everyone was preoccupied with the creation of digital worlds. Some scientists looked to the skies for answers instead, keen on discovering the secrets of the universe. One day, the planet would no longer be livable, due to the limited lifespan of the known solar system. The astronomers searched for other potential homes for humans among the stars.

No exoplanet was exactly like Earth, and none of them had the elements of a habitable environment. Discussion emerged about the creation of a possible terraforming tool, a device that would be able to alter a world's atmosphere, landscape, and environment. This tool could help humans turn barren moons and planets into possible homes, just like the one they would have left behind.

But before the scientists and engineers could start experimenting with such technology, the astronomers’ telescopes picked up on an imminent catastrophe. An enormous asteroid was speeding through space, on a direct collision course for Earth. The world frantically searched for a solution, but they quickly realized that they wouldn’t be able to stop the asteroid.

As the rock veered ever closer, one plan emerged from the global panic. They wouldn’t be able to stop the cataclysm, but they might be able to shield humankind from it. Work started on using the Virtual Reality Simulations to hide people within a digital world. Huge server banks were constructed to hold all the necessary data.

Just as the asteroid was visible as a light in the sky that rivaled the sun, people all over the world were evacuated into the simulation. Suddenly, disaster struck. Falling debris damaged some of the server banks, causing billions of people to be lost. Unfortunately, the horrified survivors could only seal up the connection to the outside world and hope that the defenses would hold.

And then they waited. Minutes became hours, and the hours became days and weeks. Even though they couldn’t look outside and check the condition of the planet, the survivors knew that their continued existence was proof that the protection had worked.

Slowly, the survivors began to construct a new home within the digital landscape. As time passed, it became clear that the meteor strike to the servers had also erased much of the information of what the world had been like before, along with all progress and research on the terraforming tool.

Faced with the shocking reality that their sanctuary had now become their prison, the survivors resolved to continue living any way they could, and to treat their new world—practically indistinguishable from the planet that they had left behind—like it was a physical realm. A government was constructed to maintain order, and the inhabitants were given roles to play in society. They called their new home the Fan-fi Republic.

As a new generation emerged, they were raised to believe that their world was a real, physical one. Their parents and teachers wanted to encourage their hopes and dreams and avoid the pessimism and sense of loss that many of the original survivors felt. Decades went on, and those born in the Fan-fi Republic continued to fill it with happiness, creativity, and prosperity.

Eventually, the survivors of the initial catastrophe passed away, having tempered their initial guilt about lying with the belief that they were protecting their loved ones from the truth. Therefore, the knowledge about the truth behind the Fan-fi Republic faded from the public memory.

Well… almost. At the highest levels of government, leader after leader passed down the knowledge of the true state of the Republic. Even though most of the data on what Earth was like before the catastrophe had been destroyed, the stories created by the pre-apocalyptic society had survived. The Republic leaders, knowing that they might need that knowledge again one day, promoted the exploration of these stories in simulations.

They encouraged citizens to take elements of their favorite stories and create their own fanfictions. Through this wealth of creativity, the simulations produced technological advancements and deepened understanding of what the world had once been. At the peak of the Fan-fi republic, the government’s leaders even resumed progress on the terraforming tool, emboldened with the idea that they could one day fix the Earth and return the population to a non-digital world.

They gave instructions to a team of specialists, known as the Research Division, to create simulations and focus recreating the fictional technology they encountered. However, the leaders kept the true nature of their world secret from even their government employees, afraid of the consequences if the truth was revealed too early.

However, the truth also survived in the beliefs—or at least, suspicions—of a select percentage of citizens. A few of the original survivors, ashamed of their secrecy, had confessed that their perfect world was not as it seemed. In an effort to hide it from the government, the beliefs were passed down only through word of mouth. Eventually, the rumors warped and changed over time, until all that was known was that the government was lying to them and suppressing the truth about their world.

As time passed, a small group of rebels grew out of this knowledge. They swore to infiltrate the government through a specialized Spy Ring, which endeavored to cut through the lies they had been told. When they discovered that the government was searching for something in the simulations, the rebels formed their own Technology Department to comb through the virtual worlds and get to whatever they were looking for first.

When the government caught wind of the rebels’ existence and purpose, they realized that if the rebels were to ever learn the truth, it would cause widespread panic and disorder throughout the Republic. They formed a special Peacekeeping Force to maintain order and thwart the rebels’ attempts at unseating the government. A struggle for power began, but with the rebels failing to get past the government’s smokescreen and the government unable to squash the rebellion, the conflict made no real progress.

Until one day, not long after Wari was elected president and Hope was appointed Head of the Peacekeepers, everything changed. Strange objects started to appear in people’s homes and workplaces, in the streets, in parks, and even floating in pools and tucked away in amusement park rides. To make things even more peculiar, these objects also were found in simulations throughout the Republic. When initially described, these objects seemed entirely commonplace: a ring of keys, a spoon, a necklace. However, they were all made of the same unfamiliar iridescent silvery material, and no one had any explanation for how they got there.

The “anomalies” were a slap in the face for the Republic Government. After investigating, the leaders realized that the strange objects heralded an incoming disaster for the world. The anomalies were proof of glitches in the servers that held up the world simulation. Further research revealed that the computers were slowly running out of power, with only weeks left before the simulation crumbled and the inhabitants of the Fan-fi Republic were left stranded on the barren landscape of Earth.

However, one discovery provided a glimmer of hope for the scrambling government. The strange anomalies could conduct electrical current, and, when analyzed, contained data that created new simulations unlike anything the Republic had seen before. The new worlds were not fanfictions of previously created stories, but contained stories of many different genres. The leaders suspected that the anomaly simulations contained the unfinished progress on the terraforming tool, and, if all the pieces were retrieved, they could finally make the Earth habitable again.

With the clock ticking until the Republic’s digital walls would disappear, President Wari had her specialists working relentlessly on exploring their own simulations to find anomalies, and to then use those objects to create Anomaly Simulations, where the parts of the terraforming tool awaited.

General Hope’s Peacekeepers were instructed to find anomalies throughout the city, and to recover anomalies found by the citizens of the Republic. They also had the crucial job of relieving the people’s worries and fears to maintain harmony and order.

Soon, the rebels caught on to the government’s sudden change in pace. The leader of the rebel spies, Katie, prepared herself and her trainees to take advantage of the government’s desperation and find out what they were truly hiding. For them, the anomalies are proof that the government is up to something terrible, and that the Republic’s leaders will do anything to cover it up.

When they find out what the government is doing with anomalies and simulations, the rebel tech division, under lead hacker Willow, starts delving into their own simulations to discover the pieces of the tool that the government is looking for.

In this way, the rebels start mimicking the government’s search for anomalies and their construction of anomaly simulations.

The days are slowly ticking down. The government campers are expected to follow orders to discover a tool that they are told will save their planet. The rebel campers believe that the government is destroying their world and looking for a weapon to give them absolute control.

It’s a race to collect anomalies, construct simulations, and recover pieces of the mysterious tool. Each side works in their own way to save their world, but the victory of either group has the potential to destroy their already fracturing reality.

The campers won't know all this, but it can be periodically revealed as they progress! At the start of the third week of camp, when Katie gets back, the campers will discover the truth about the Fanfiction Republic. Around the last week of camp, the leaders will realize that there isn't enough time to complete the terraforming tool on their own, so they will pool resources and work together to complete the final milestones… and save the world.

Also, I forgot to mention this, but Moss (@mossflower29), the leader of Myth, and Addie (@creatiivity), the leader of Non-fi, have approached me about joining Fan-fi, Myth, and Non-fi as siblings!

I think it's a good idea, but I wanted to run it by you before making a decision. What do you think? Also, please let me know if you have ideas about other alliances! ^^

[CLOSED] Collab on a generic platformer

Hey! I'm back, I was at my brother's concert.

In regards to the siblings, that sounds great! I think we should build up our other allies pretty soon too (I'll brainstorm some when I get a minute)

The plot is excellent! I think we can really build off of this plan. I can help refine some more shortly, I've got a bit going on this evening so I will do my best to brainstorm more soon.

My initial concern about the storyline is that it appears that some campers may know information that others don't. Luna and I briefly talked about this last session, but that can lead to issues with secrets potentially being shared (If this isn't what you meant, let me know, I had to do a quick skim due to time constraints)

OKAY

Time for a big post from me with a lot of my thoughts…here we go

Story/Cabin Name

I love the theme so far, and here are some thoughts I had about it (I may end up reiterating some of what you said, I hope this is alright as it helps me think):
- The setting is a modern and pristine city. The buildings are white and shiny, grass is flawlessly cut, and the sky is always blue. Civilians go about their daily lives by getting their food delivered in the morning and then going to either school or their assigned workplace (Really think the idealistic vibe from the Giver, if you've read that. If not, you can literally look up “The Giver society” And it'll come up in images.
- A little brain poke in regards to the simulations…are they recreational? Can people use them whenever they want? Are there designated times for certain people? Is it a reward of some kind? This is not meant to bombard you with questions, it's just to get a better idea of what we're trying for here.
- In regards to the things only the leaders know, is there going to be a way for campers to get hints that the leaders know these things/what they're doing/etc? If not we should be sure to build a clues series that drops at random points in time
- Again I want to bring up my concern of “some characters” knowing something…we don't want to let some campers in on something and not others. It's not only a bit unfair but we can't be 100% certain the camper won't tell anyone.
- Are the glitches going to be triggered by certain actions being taken by campers? Like if they buy something with our currency and are offered a choice, and they choose a then there will be a glitch, and if they pick b there won't be? Or will there just be ones when we decide to put them in?
- How quickly do you expect the campers to move through the story? It seems to me we're going to need a “the world is one way until midway through the session” and then a plot twist or event and “oh look it's different now” (i.e. the world simulation fails)
- I think that if we stick to this theme, we can call our cabin “The Fan-Fi Future” or maybe “The Fan-Fi Utopia” (I can come up with others but wanted to see if these were cool too ^^)

Cabin Logistics
- Cabin colors! I think we should go for maybe an electric blue, shiny silver, and either a black or like some flashes of gold. Maybe something like this? It can be adjusted (also I didn't put black in there but I figure it's understood ^^)
- In cabin currency! I think that we should pick something that seems normal in the beginning, before the glitches, and something that seems really fitting of the story after them. Not sure what that is yet, but we can be flexible here ^^
- Do we need other leaders involved in our story? If so, how would they be involved? (If we don't know, that's okay, just want to ask!)
- We should start building a list of potential allies/enemies, and we could maybe see if those people fit our story as well

Division of Groups
- I think that we have a couple options here. I don't know that we should have a group for common people, simply because that may be boring for some campers. We could probably stick to making half or a quarter of our campers government agents (I'm leaning more towards half) and the other half or three quarters be rebels. That way everyone gets to play an important role. The halves (assuming we do that) will either be manned by two leaders OR it will (more simply) be two word count studios under one theme. Does that make sense?
- This should solve our issues with leaders.

IDEA I JUST HAD
- We could work my “disappearance” into maybe I'm one of the rebel leaders and the government has taken me hostage…and the campers have to try and get me back

My other thoughts
- I think this story has great potential! My only concern is it being a bit more sci-fi or dystopian than Fan-Fi, simply because it ends up diverging from the simulation thing. Maybe, when the simulation walls fall, they find out that the world beyond them is full of a lush world and amazing stories for them to see, if that makes sense? Basically, once the wall comes down, the campers are opened up to all of the other worlds and possibilities, and the challenges of exploring them. Or something like that.

Ending
I think these ideas are amazing! It'll need a bit of working out, but I think that the questions I asked will help us be in the right place. I want to remind you that none of this is meant to overwhelm you, and I'm happy to help answer my own questions and work with you to help out the kinks. These sorts of questions help prompt innovation ^^

You have some really good points here! I have some ideas about how to fix the kinks you pointed out, but it might take me some time to get back to you on those.

Right now, I'm going to try to get our second co-leader, but then I'll write down my ideas on the storyline!

Ok, so I’ve looked through all of your ideas in better detail, and I think they are really great!

STORYLINE
In regards to the story, I totally agree with the setting (btw how did you guess I was using the Giver as inspiration XD).

As for the simulations, I would assume that the government encourages their use in both work and recreation. Given that people can create and enter their own virtual reality stories, they would be quite popular. My idea was that by “creating simulations,” campers would really just be writing their own fanfictions that they could enter and interact with.

I agree with your point that having secrets kept from only some of the campers wouldn’t be very effective XD. Maybe all the things in the “some campers know” category could just be things that the campers could suspect about the other groups. As an example of what I’m talking about, back in March ’22, there were things that the campers weren’t generally supposed to “know” about the other groups, like the fact that each faction wasn’t specifically being targeted by the other groups, and that all of them were trying to open doors. However, this was common knowledge for most of the campers, and it didn’t really cause a problem!

About the things that only the leaders know, I definitely agree that we should have clues dropped at certain times. I’ll go into more detail about what I’m talking about farther below.

Ok, so my idea was that the glitches (or maybe we could call them “anomalies,” to not give up the fact that the world is a simulation until a bit farther along) would actually serve as the cabin currency. Each group will be instructed to collect glitches/anomalies, so that they can be studied by the leaders. Instead of like, rips in the framework, I was imagining these anomalies to be strange objects that appear in random places. Maybe they could be common objects, like keys, cups, and notebooks, made of a silvery iridescent material that is nothing like anything the inhabitants of the world have ever seen before. It would be revealed later on that the anomalies are glitches that the World Computer (the system that holds everything in place) spit out as it starts to malfunction.

Once campers collect a certain number of glitches/anomalies, they could purchase writing critiques or other rewards, and complete milestones. OOH I just had this idea right now, but what if the campers need to collect anomalies to create new simulations, which lead to other cabins! Then, they could perform tasks to receive essential clues for what is happening for the world, and could receive parts of the terraforming tool needed to restore the Earth to a livable state before the World Simulation gives out.

Now, about the storyline, maybe the story starts when anomalies first start appearing. The campers are told that strange things are happening in their perfect world, and it’s their job to collect anomalies to give to their group leaders. Maybe halfway through (when you get back), the rebel leader (maybe you XD) could return from her absence to reveal that she has discovered the government leader’s plot to keep secret the true reason that the anomalies have appeared. The need for the terraforming tool is revealed, and campers have to complete tasks to find the final parts. In the last week, maybe the cabin has to go through a final big task to put the tool together, and to use it to fix the world.

XD You caught that this idea was supposed to be generalizable in case I became (co)leader of sci-fi or dystopian. I was thinking that the fanfiction elements would be the ability of the campers to create their own “virtual reality simulations” that alter elements of established stories and fandoms. This would essentially just be the campers writing and describing fanfiction stories.

Yeah, those are some good ideas. I’ve been unsure about the name, since calling it “Fanfiction Simulation” would kinda spoil the plot XD. Another suggestion I’d make is maybe calling it “Fanfiction Republic,” or maybe even “Fanfiction Simulations,” which would refer to the campers’ ability to create simulations, but also hint at the larger reality taking place.

Cabin Logistics
I totally agree with the palette colors. Here’s my suggestion, since your link to the specific colors seems to not be working:

The colors are Gold #C8AD62, Reddish-Black #161111, Bluish-White #EBF2FF, Electric Blue #64C5F3, Red #EA262B, and Bluish-Black #0A0D1E.

I don’t know much about creating color palettes XD, but I was thinking that the more reddish colors could be used for the rebel word count studio/profile pictures/projects, while the bluish colors could be for the government ones. The gold could be used to highlight both groups, and the blue and red could be used for glitch effects.

Again, I think that the glitches/anomalies could be used as the in-cabin currency, since they’ll be present at the start of the story.

We could involve the other cabins by having simulations built with the anomalies lead to the other cabins. Then, the leaders could give the campers tasks to complete, in order for them to unlock lore and receive pieces of the terraforming tool.

As for potential allies/enemies, I’m not sure how we would incorporate those into the storyline. However, I’ve been approached for a possible Myth/Non-fi/Fan-fi sibling alliance, so what are your thoughts on that? Also, I want to be allies with Horror, since we were enemies last time and Luna, our former Fan-fi leader, is the leader now. If you have any other suggestions for allies/enemies/neutrals, feel free to say so!

Division of Groups
Yeah, it makes sense to remove the “common people” category. Maybe we could have 2 groups that each have 2 word count groups. Like, maybe the government could have a peacekeeping force and a research division, and the rebels could have a spy ring and a tech department. Each faction could have joint leaders that oversee the individual divisions, and campers within each faction could switch between groups to compensate for inactivity.

The glorious return of Katie
Hmm, maybe you could be captured as part of an intricate plot to get at the government from the inside. Once you return, you could have discovered the truth behind the world, and you could reveal it to further the plot.

Also, maybe, once the campers finish the terraforming tool at the end of the story, the walls of the simulation finally crash down, revealing a world that incorporates elements of all the simulations and fanfiction stories they have created all along. I think that this would be a beautiful, satisfying ending for the cabin storyline!

Conclusion
So, hopefully this helps fill in some of the gaps of the storyline. Let me know what you think we can change or build on!

Hiya!
I have finally set foot here, and I can see you guys have been brainstorming a lot so far! I really love the tech-y story line a lot, and I think it would help if he assembled a sort of hierarchy among the people. Like for example in the government, there could be a division or “tree” of least power to highest power. We should exclude a “Peasants” category, but still have a lower class with a greater amount of people(?) Just a suggestion, but a hierarchy would definitely make the story more interesting when one side has the advantage of power, while the other side has the advantage of greater people! I suggest you guys search up the book “The Last Girl On Earth” if you haven't already read it, because it includes a LOT of great concepts that you guys added into the plot so far. Basically, the earth is bombed by these people from another unknown planet. There is one last unharmed little girl left, and one of the more kinder soldiers saves the child and disguises her as that species. The entire story the girl fights for her freedom to go back to the earth where she belongs. We could add a similar concept into the plot, except the citizens (lower class) fight for the right to have their own story in the world. Wait a minute-

WHAT IF- the place they live in had this particular story that the people followed every day (Ex. - Wake up, drink coffee, go to work, and on…) and anyone who didn't follow the timed routine was punished appropriately. That goes on until one day a brave citizen encourages the lower class to fight with the government for their freedom to build their own stories/futures!

I know this is really vague, but I'll try to narrate this a little better when I get more time If you both agree that this could take place in the plot!

I also have this Idea that everyone (including the campers) should have an assigned ROLE in the cabin, whether it's one big role or a vague ensemble. Maybe we could make an RP studio or smth to increase their word counts that way! I have a few ideas for the characters!

Wari - The Brave Freedom Fighter hehe - basically the person that encourages the townspeople to fight for freedom and leads the group. Your word count group can be the Fighters/Citizens!

Katie the Glorious - like Wari said, you could be captured as part of an intricate plot to get at the government from the inside. Once you return, you could have discovered the truth behind the world, and you could reveal it to further the plot. Your word count group could be named “The Spies” as other people that sacrificed their name and fame for the well being of the citizens and to find out the truth.

Hope the Spiteful (lol Maleficent vibes here xD - We have two protagonists! (ofc that is if the both of you agree) What about the antagonist? The government general, Hope, is a spitefull and sinister heartbroken lady that wants to keep the place in the gray and wants to harm the earth for her own personal gains and reasons (I will go in further detail once this idea is approved.) She is the one that coded the system that forced the citizens to fall the table of events and not make their own descisions in life. My word count group could be named “Government Officials” (definitely changing that it's too boring…)

Theme Colors : I love the ideas on theme colors so far, but I think we should add more blues and neon greens and pinks– kind of giving a discomforted and glitchy feel. Wait- IDEA ALERTTTT

Scratch that idea- I got a better one! WHAT IF- for our thumbnail, we split it in half! One side could be the world before change, mostly gray and spurts and flashes of glitchy neon colors– and the other side filled with soft, pastel hues of pinks and purples and lots of greenery after the citizens were given freedom to build their own future.

(didn't read this over so plz forgive my spelling errors)

I'm not so sure about becoming siblings with Myth that much… though I think siblings with Non-fi would be a positive influence!

As far as making alliances with Horror though… YOU HAVE MY YESS 100%!!! I'm a former Horror camper, and I'd literally be OVER.THE.MOON. if we formed alliances!

OKAY- I just want to smooth some sharp edges in the plot so far (feel free to make any changes) just so I don't have to stare at 3+ different ideas at once

(plz forgive my atrocious grammar and summary, I'll mostly just be making bullet points from start to finish!)

Our Ideas Combined So Far :

  • The story starts off in a dark, gloomy village (kinda sci-fi -ish) where everyone has the same routines every day (perhaps they have some sort of technology controlling them from doing what they want to do?)
This goes on until a brave citizen (Wari) encourages the rest of the citizens to somehow overthrow the government and explore behind the tall rusted walls that surround the city.
Hope (meh), one of the government officials, who has never felt love nor wanted any has decided to make it as hard as possible for the citizens to overcome their troubles in the city, and starts working on the coding of the system that is controlling the citizens.
Katie, another brave citizen finally sacrifices her name to be captured by the government as she does not follow her schedule (she breaks the technology) and spies and learns about everything the government is planning during her time being locked up. The conveys the message to the citizens once she is freed from being behind bars.
The citizens make a unique plan and their unity brings down the wall with the magic of their unity, and the world beyond the walls is another great story. The grass is lush, the trees are heavy with fruit, and everything in the world is magical and natural! a human behind the walls of the corrupted city welcomes the citizens (aka campers and leaders) to the natural world.
Everyone, even Hope and the other camper antagonists learn how to love and start treating each other as equals. They get rid of their hierarchy.
Everyone has the power of writing their own future!

More Developed Word Counting Group Names
show list

1) Wari's Warriors (Freedom Fighters)

2) Katie's Emissaries (Spies)

3) Hope's Malicious Malignants (Cruel Government Officials)

4)

Any ideas for the currency yet?
