Stop Featuring "Generic Platformers"

To be honest, these kinds of projects get their attention through trending, and most of them only took about 5 minutes to make. Please feature something unique instead of something that is 75% backpacked and is always in the top loved rows.

Have these ever been featured? I have not seen these kinds of projects featured before. I have seen them on the front and explore pages, but not in the featured section.

Look at the latest featured project (please don't send hate, that's immature)

I don't see any “generic platformers” in Featured, so I'm going to assume you mean the “community is loving” type beat.

When a particular type of project gets NFE'd, it's always regarding the questionable content of those types of projects (e.g FNAF projects). “Generic Platformers” are different in that they're perfectly fine content wise, they're just very similar in content. As trash as the top loved section can be, it does act as a good representation as to the type of content that is popular among the mainstream Scratch community. It's no different from Youtube's trending section or whatever goes on in Roblox's front page.

I don't think the latest featured project is totally “generic”. I would prefer if it didn't use so many platformer tropes, but the idea was kind of cool. It's nice and educational, and the 360 degrees thing was neat.

That doesn't mean it shouldn't get fixed. Also, if the front and explore pages don't represent the community, then what does? Scratch doesn't have a recommendation system so you can't say that only some users see this kind of content.

Around once a month, the Scratch Team will feature a “generic platformer.” One actually got featured today. It's the one where the cube is really dark.

This isn't a problem in YouTube because people know if they don't make unique content, their audience will just watch another person. On Roblox, you can sue people for copying your game. That is, if they insert a hacking script and use your assets for robux, and later, real money.

The project I believe you are talking of isn't exactly “generic”, it's actually a pretty creative idea for a platformer, infact I haven't seen other platformer with the same concept before, and plus people seem to like. Adding on to what I said, if you take the creators word, it's somewhat educational too as the gravity is somewhat realistic and correlates to NASA's research

If the project wasn't featured, it would be on top loved anyway. And it isn't very different: Cube, wall jumping, character is hovering above the ground.

If it's featured, it means it's good enough that the Scratch Team wants it on the front page of their website.

The current project isn't what I would consider generic, it's actually kind of educational and isn't just a lava platformer.

Anyway, it's all up to what the Scratch Team chooses. I guess they enjoyed it.

Thats literally the core/basics of a platformer tho, player jumps/go over obstacle, and tries to win/pass the levels

Keyword - once a month

What the ST are doing is showcasing a variety of projects on the featured projects section to present to everyone the different types of content that Scratchers are creating, which is occasionally going to include the “generic platformer” type beat.

For some perspective, the last 5 featured projects are
- Platfomer
- Customise a character
- Poem music video
- Infinite scroller jumping game
- pig

People are going to see a generic platformer around every corner, so I don't know why the ST is adding it to more places.

Platformers may be generic but they are still fun

I don't think the platformer on featured is generic, completely the opposite to be precise.

I mean, it's up to the ST and I'm sure they've heard this kind of complaint thousands of times. So while I agree, I don't think there's much you and I can do about it.

I've definitely seen overly generic projects on Featured, but Top Loved and Explore are a whole nother story.

Not everything the ST features will make everyone happy. Fortunately, what the ST features does absolutely no harm to anyone, so if you don't like what's on the front page, just ignore it.

I used to enjoy platformers, but they are all the same nowadays and there are never really any original ideas anymore.
