Untamed dogs cannot sit. If a dog is sitting, then bones will not work, as it is tamed.

You can't obtain ownership of pets that you don't own. The game thinks the pets have an invalid owner. So you will have to get rid of them and tame new ones.

My theory stating that 1.13 will come out by roughly a week after the last snapshot still stands. 1.13-pre5 came out on June 28, giving the prediction until around July 4-6 to be accurate.
