I don't think I could elaborate on my suggestion very much. We have been able to rename variables since… somewhen, but Scratch 2.0 doesn't seem to have the ability to rename lists.

In the Scratch 3.0 public beta, the list reporters don't even have right-click menus (although I suppose that's still in development). At one point I did this with a 3.0 beta project by editing the JSON myself with ‘Find and Replace’, but not only is that unintuitive, but you also risk corrupting your project.
