In-Project Purchases

I was wondering if you somehow hacked a project for there to be In-Project purchases, would that be allowed? On the scratch FAQ the question “Can I sell my project” didn't get negative replies.

In-Project Purchases

Scratch is not made for kids to learn how to make a profit in a competitive market, it's for education, and maybe competition in project views. It would be too easy to make it a scam, so I'd assume no, and people can also just lock entire projects behind a pay wall. Plus the majority of Scratch is kids, so do you think kids have any money to spare? And how will they receive their money without a credit/debit card? Plus, kids are less controlled with their thinking about what's a scam, so there is that too. Projects themselves being purchased might be ok, as long as it is done outside of scratch, and you make sure it's not a scam, by showing the project, and other stuff. If you made a hacked project with purchases, then don't you think everyone else would, and then start making scratch a site of money competition?

I am leaving scratch. Sorry if this makes you sad, but I have done too many rude things, and I don't have any clue of what sort of projects I can make without burning out. I might come back for 3.0, but for now, goodbye Scratch.

I don't think that would be allowed at all, plus I don't see how you would go about doing it. Selling something you made using the software is one thing, requesting payment in a project on the site is something else. Firstly, the site is mostly populated by children, and giving them in-project purchases is not only morally wrong but likely to get the website into controversy. Secondly, depending on how you do it you could put people's personal information at risk.

Stuff like this is actually a rejected feature.

Scratch is an educational site for learning and creating - not for making money. Charging money to run scripts would limit people's access to Scratch. It would also add a lot of complexity to the site without any clear benefit towards increasing the educational value.

No. I'm pretty certain it's not even possible, but if it were, it could very easily be used to scam or could be otherwise abused (e.g. users saying “You have to pay 99999999 dollars to get in”).
Plus, many users on this site are kids. Kids tend to not have a good concept of money, and they most likely don't have credit cards either (you have to be 18 or older to get a credit card, but some may get their credit cards earlier with an adult or something if I recall correctly), and so they might just end up using their parents' credit card. As TRNB said, I can see it being used to get people's personal information as well.
Also, Za-Chary is right. There was a topic asking for real money to be used in the site a long time ago, but it was rejected.

If the purpose is to give the site money, then I think you can already donate, but Scratch is nonprofit.

Also, you can sell your project, this is a totally different story (as long as you sell it outside Scratch, and I assume as long as the project isn't shared and no copyrighted stuff is in it)

Hmm…I'm not sure that's quite true. A Scratch Team member may want to verify this, but I don't think they want you to sell your projects; you shouldn't be able to make money off of Scratch, a non-profit organization.

Scratch is a tool for writing code. When boiled down to it's essentials, a script written in Scratch is not much different from a script written in JavaScript or just about any mainstream language out there.

I have an update from @Paddle2See:

Paddle2See wrote:

Yes, you have the right to sell your Scratch project. However, if you have shared it on our site, it's free to everybody anyway. And I'm not sure how you would sell it on Scratch without running into our rules for limiting contact information. But you could sell it from some other site, presumably
So, looks like you actually can sell your Scratch project.

However, I'm pretty sure that in-project purchases are rejected, as it's already been said.

There are at least a couple of ways to sell your project:

The first way is a way to sell whole projects. Download your project on to your computer. The project should not be shared. Upload the project onto a different site, but charge money for the download. A similar way is to sell a link to an unshared project on phosphorus.

The second way is a way to sell parts of a project. Share your project, but lock the non-free features away with codes, and make it so that you have to go to a certain website to get a code. The codes wouldn't be free.

Neither way is perfect. You shouldn't sell stuff on Scratch.

No - hacking a project for there to be in-project purchases would not be allowed on Scratch. Scratch is intended to be free to all users, and may not be used for commercial purposes.

You're welcome to sell your project(s), but doing so means that you cannot share them on the Scratch Website.
