alright so i setup a vm on virtualbox. its a moded windows 10. i download noescape on it and ran it. the moded iso of windows 10 was installed by using chrome, which was gotten from my brother's friend's hard drive

wow its like when i install dos on a virtual machine and it says that its formatting the c: drive, even though I know it means the vm's c: drive, it still scares me

Use linux or mac so it doesn't scare you, because they don't use C drive as default drive

Download the Adobe Flash Player Projecter here: https://web.archive.org/web/20220401020702/https://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/debug_downloads.html (sadly they took it down recently from the official site, thanks to the Internet Archive for archiving it)

Select the program that is right for your device. Do not download the debugger, just the projector. After you download it, install/open it.

Download Scratch 2.0 here: http://cdn.scratch.mit.edu/scratchr2/static/__ff878b6c9b6c4d18fab154a707dc253c__/Scratch.swf

Now, go into the Flash Player, and press File > Open, and then select the .swf file you downloaded.

Now you should be able to use Scratch 2.0 on your computer!

Worth noting that if you left shared folders on, there is a real possibility that the virus you downloaded could have gotten into them and infected them. Run a virus scan on your PC and put any suspicious files through VirusTotal. If it comes to it, save all your important files and reinstall your OS.

Generally you shouldn't be running malware on your machine (even in a VM) unless you know exactly what are you doing and can ensure that it won't act like a worm and try to affect everyone else on your network. Doing so just because you saw a cool video on the malware isn't a smart idea.

i only had shared folders on for my windows xp (which i deleted the file)
plus i later deleted the win10 vm

I know double-posting is discouraged but I figured this could get its own post deservedly; happy birthday 22nd to the CIH virus! As of yesterday, it's been old enough to purchase alcohol within the United States for two years!

The CIH virus was a highly destructive piece of malware that, when activated, would attempt to infect your system by writing itself into gaps within your computer's memory, disguising itself and allowing it to infect your machine while remaining undetected.

When CIH's payload triggered, it would attempt to overwrite the first megabyte of your PC's hard drive with zeroes, effectively rendering it unusable in many cases–remember, this in the 90s when having hard drive space measured in gigabytes was just a dream. Your MBR, depending on the circumstances, could also be overwritten and lost, though in many cases it was recoverable, especially if the drive had multiple partition tables.

By far the most destructive payload of CIH was when it would also overwrite your BIOS, which could completely destroy one's computer beyond the usual recovery of reinstalling the OS. Tools such as FIX-CIH were developed to help victims recover from the virus.

While the virus was eventually stopped, variants of it still exist in the wild, though obviously antivirus software and OS security have evolved to deal with the threats posed by it. The virus's author, Chen Ing-hau, faced no legal punishment for writing the virus as adequate computer crime laws did not exist within Taiwan, and no CIH victims came forward with a lawsuit.
