“Sound loudness” could possibly be confused with the “Loudness” block in sensing..
(loudness)is for the volume of the sound in a mic.

Thanks for the support guys!! Sadly, the scratch team just doesn't want fancy new features. Even ones that I have already codes and would take them a click to pull into the main code.
Oh well.

ST should get the top ten users from Advanced Topics to code Scratch 3 instead of the project they created.

Wait a minute…
Isn't that the same thing as
(volume)?
when this block is clicked::sensing hat//FYI, this is my old account that I no longer use. My current account is @DaSpudLord.If you are reading this… Then congratulations! You have found the part of my signature that was eaten by a kumquat! (On a side note, you are probably in a kumquat's stomach.) Now get out of the kumquat's stomach and go do something productive with your life. Like playing this game over and over again. Very productive.

The volume block returns the volume of the sound. Or how loud it will sound when it comes out of the speakers.
My Sound Loudness block was named that way because it acts similarly to the Loudness block. The only difference is that it returns the frequency data from the playing sound, not a microphone.

I support. This would be an incredible block. I'm surprised @Monster-Scratch hasn't supported… — This post has been edited to add in suggestions from other Scratchers.
This block would exist to report a number (0-100) based on the loudness of the playing sound. It is similar to the loudness block, but it does not use the microphone. To get a better idea of what I mean, you can test the block online right now Scratch Sound Loudness Online
The block looks like this:
Advanced description: It returns the frequency of the currently playing sound, as a number between 0-100. 0 meaning no sound, and 100 being the highest possible frequency/loudness possible.
Many Scratchers use the (loudness) block to gather the volume of the sound coming out of the computers speakers through a microphone. Recently NeonTech had a project featured that used a microphone in the way I just described. Many Scratchers commented that they couldn't use the project because they didn't have a mic. This block will fix that! http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/23370689/
This doesn't only have to be for audio visualizers. One could also create a game and use this block to randomly spawn an enemy when the music gets above a certain frequency.
Thepuzzlegame has created a demo for everyone to test! Open this Project inside the Scratch Sound Loudness Online link. Green Flag.

i'm just going to say it again, because it got ignored last time…
volume/wave amplitude (in decibels, which you CAN measure) is NOT the same as frequency. So is this block the sound pitch or volume? Loudness is related to amplitude, not frequency (as much unless you get really technical)

I am well aware of the properties of waves. I have taken physics.
It technically should be called sound frequency not sound loudness. But because scratch is meant for kids I decided to name it something that everyone could understand. (Even though I highly doubt that the block will be added)

A block shouldn't be called one thing when it returns a different value, then - it's extremely misleading.

Suggest me a name. If you want to see why it is called Sound Loudness, look on the first page of this thread.

Sound Frequency. Easy. It explains exactly what it's meant to be.
