Yeah not too sure about that one if I'm honest. The person who had gave you the product key might know the activation code.

It is possible to activate by typing the 25 character product key…
No like if u do just that, after quite some time it will start requiring u to actually activate to use stuff
Also if u have product key u can then use phone activation or an activator program/.exe

i feel like, windows vista was an great OS, but the time microsoft launched it PCs still were bad and most with 1GB or less

Yes windows vista could've been great, but even today, i doubt it would be perfect. Take mac os tahoe for example – even in 2026 its impossible to make areo glass truly work.
