As the animal control truck rumbled up a steep hill, it hit a rock and jarred the hinge. A skinny crack ran its way up the door. About half way up, it stopped. “Maybe there is hope for me after all.”Dixy sighed and rammed his shoulder into the door. But he was mistaken, on top of the hill was the kennel. The gigantic black building loomed over the truck as it inched its way up the long winding lane. Dark clouds covered the sky, a storm was on its way. Lightning struck the ground, silhouetting the building and making it look even more creepy. Dixy stared through the barred up back window in horror. “Here we are.” A tiny chawawa leapt up onto his head and sighed. “You’ve been here before?” He asked, shaking the little dog off. “Yup a few times” He scowled. “Then I escaped.” “Why do you come back?” Dixy asked. "You really think I would come back here?” He asked, raising an eyebrow. “Well no but-” “I got caught.” He growled. “Whats your name?” Dixy asked changing the subject. “Just call me Sage.” He said. “How did you come to be here?” Sage asked Dixy. Dixy started,“ Me and my friend Queeny were going home only to find everything completely different and invaded by humans. The humans put us in a small room but we escaped. We found a hole that went under the fence but I got stuck. A friendly wolf came to help us.” Dixy sighed. “I need to get out of here and find my friend. I hope the wolf keeps his promise and she stays safe.”


Chapter five

“Ugg…” Queeny felt a throbbing pain in her head. She squinted her eyes and tried to stand, but she was shackled to the ground with chains. “Hey boss!” She recognized the voice of Storm. Apparently he was assigned as her guard. “The prisoner is awake!” I need to get out of here. Queeny thought. Flash walked towards her. “So you're awake?” “What are you going to do with me?” She snarled, “Also what was with all the stuff about you having a heart?” “Why would I tell my prisoners what we’re going to do with them? And to answer your second question…” He chuckled, “Simple lies.” Queeny glared at him. Flash stalked away. “Make sure she doesn’t get away.” He barked back at Storm. “Got it boss.” He saluted smartly. When Flash walked away, an orange wolf approached him. “When is Eclipse coming?” he asked. “I don't know, but there is a rumor floating around that he is coming soon.” Flash glanced at Queeny and scooted farther into the corner of the cave. “Listen Ceder, before he left he said he expected me to have all the dogs in oxvile captured.” “Remind me why Eclipse wants to get rid of these dogs,” Cedar wondered. Flash murmured something about remembering things then responded. “Back when Eclipse was a young pup, dogs from oxvile captured his parents. Ever since then, he has despised dogs and has done everything in his power to destroy them.” “Don’t you think that’s kind of harsh?” Cedar asked. “You're the second in command, your job is to listen to me and do whatever I tell you to do. You got it?” Flash spun on his heels and strode into one of the caves. Misty walked over to Storm. “I’m assigned to the next watch.” She said flatly. “Finaly.” Storm stretched and wandered away. Misty settled down a few feet away from Queeny. As she examined the pretty white wolf, she realized that the black marking under Misy’s eye was a small X burned onto her pelt.“ What happened to you?” Queeny asked. Misty glared at her. “None of your business prisoner.” She snapped. Queeny lowered her eyes. A million thoughts circled around in her head and she found it hard to think of an escape plan. The full weight of her situation came plummeting down on her. What if she couldn’t get out of here? What would she do if she did escape? What happened to Dixy? Queeny sighed and told herself to rest while she could. She closed her eyes, but the intense emotion she felt made it almost impossible.
