I love bread…

I took another bite of the soft, fluffy square in my hands. Bread. Delicious, warm bread. It had been a good while since I last made a proper breakfast for myself… or at least, what I considered a proper breakfast.

Ever since moving here, my parents have been really into the whole “big breakfast” lifestyle - croissants (that were way too oily for my taste), avocadoes (fine by themselves, but I despise guacamole and when they’re on absolutely anything besides a clean plate), milk (which gave my poor lactose intolerant stomach a very bad day every time I had it), ham, eggs… the list goes on. After a few months, however, all four of us had gotten tired and way too full from a meal this size first thing in the morning, and our breakfasts went back to looking like the ones we had back in Hong Kong. Simple, fast, and without much thought.

I still remember one of the first breakfasts my mom taught me to make for myself back then - peanut butter toast and warm soybean milk. Weekdays weren’t a problem since we had a domestic helper, but as much as I liked to sleep in (I usually wake up at around 10 on the weekends…), my parents were way worse. Like, wayyyy worse. Most of the time, they wouldn’t get up until noon, although most of it was probably just due to harsh work schedules. During those times, that’s the breakfast I’d make myself. It was simple, but it was more than enough for my liking.

It was another day of barely any schoolwork, with the strangely low Grade 9 workload I was anything but used to. I had limited time on my devices each day and refrained myself from following content that would always update or have new episodes because of that, but there was still one thing I let myself keep chasing after.

This was anything but a normal weekend for me, a WAV who had been there practically since day one. tripleS was finally revealing their last 8 members, starting with S17-S20 as the unit NXT. We had gotten the teaser videos for S17 and S18 as per tradition, who we now know as Lynn and JooBin, but releasing the unit music video before the other two members’ teasers was definitely new for Modhaus. I didn’t mind or put too much thought into it though, as my hopes were for once pretty high from all the promotion for these four. And if you know me, I almost always keep my hopes and expectations as low as I can to prevent being disappointed after.

…I also have absolutely terrible memory, so I can’t say I remembered exactly everything that happened that day. Honestly, I didn’t even remember the moment it actually happened right after it ended. All I knew was that that day, I came out of my makeshift music video watching session very full and very satisfied… even after I already had breakfast.

We soon got to know the names of the remaining two NXT members, HaYeon and ShiOn.

It’s a long story, but long story short, 20 quickly became one of my favourite numbers.

…It also became the multiplier for how much money I spent in the year of 2025 compared to probably everything before that combined. As I walked on my way back to the train station, I only had one thought in my head.

I love bread…

hi swc main cabin march 2026, yume has a proposal and that is for you all to read THE WINNIE ZENG SERIES!!! before you're like “okay what is winnie zeng” don't worry one bit cause i will happily ramble about it to you because it's (very unsurprisingly) my current favourite book series of all time. if you like mythology and mooncakes, i highly suggest you read on ^^

for genres, winnie zeng starts off looking very much like an ordinary real-fi (or chinese-immigrant-fi, aka yume's favourite genre to read :,>) series, but read on and you'll find that it's actually very much fantasy with inspiration from classic chinese mythology tales.

the story is about a chinese immigrant girl named winnie zeng who's basically the most relatable character in my opinion… this might be just a bit more tailored to asian families, but i'm sure we all have parents that constantly (and when i say constantly i MEAN constantly) compare us to other kids. it's like whatever you do, whatever achievment you get, there's always that someone else who just has an even better one (or they really don't and your parents are playing favourites but you get my point). her adventures through navigating middle school, her very personality-diverse family, and life in general are both hilarious and realistic, i genuinely can't seem to do anything but root for her xD

besides being realistic, there's also the part inspired by myths that really makes the story so much more special. the books reimagine classic figures from chinese mythology tales (in an often hilairous way xD) as the heroes or villains that they are… and some twists as well cause books do be like that. you don't even have to be familiar with chinese mythology to enjoy the books since it tells you all you need to know! anywho it's just really good in all okay.

and if you're still not convinced- i'm personally not big of a reader at all, but this is a series i'll happily read just cause it's definitely not too long (i'm well aware the books i read are like. years below my age range but uhhh we don't talk about that) AND they constantly talk about food. as i mentioned earlier, there are mooncakes!! yes, the first book is quite literally centered around mooncakes (and this isn't spoilers cause it quite literally has that in the actual blurb…), and every book has recipes at the back for the special treats mentioned in the story. (i've never actually tried any of them myself cause none of my family trusts the very clumsy bunny named yume with an oven, but you can tell they taste good from reading it :,D)

…and because we're swc, i think it's worth mentioning there's a LOT of friendly (sometimes teeny bit hostile) competition and chaos along those lines. and half the time it's practically a food fight… so very swc methinks

all in all, there's just so many reasons why i love winnie zeng, i've read all three books released so far and i have no bad things to say about any of them. if you ever decide to read the books, please do let me know your thoughts, i'd be very very glad to ramble about it xD conclusion! you should read winnie zeng. thank you for coming to my ted talk

Appearance: long, slightly wavy light brown (search up milktea brown xD) hair dyed pink at the tips, straight bangs. signature hairstyle is half up ponytail on one side with a small braid in it, but in daily life she usually wears it in low twintails or fully down if she’s lazy, both sometimes with a cute beret
Personality: giddy, mostly energetic but used to be really quiet due to having zero self confidence, still sometimes doubts her abilities but tries not to show it in front of others and especially her fans. becoming an idol forced her to be more outward in terms of personality
Strengths:
- very good singer who has a very pretty voice
- will go out of her way to help someone even if it delays her own plans
- otherwise really good sleep schedule that only gets disturbed by rigorous schedules
Weaknesses:
- daydreams a lot. will wander off during conversations
- nostalgic, lets past problems catch up to her and constantly worries about them
- genuinely cannot multitask, took her two whole years to get good at dancing since her coordination is… something :pensive:
- severe stress eating problems. has a stash of snacks she saved in a cabinet in her dorm
Notes:
- reason for becoming an idol: loved singing since a very young age and constantly entered competitions. her initial dream job was to become a flight attendant like her mom (“to see new places, get free snacks and be able to sleep on a plane”). one of her competition clips caught the attention of scouts from Dreamlit Labels, and her vocal coach encouraged her to take the opportunity
- soon became one of the company’s most promising trainees. still quiet at that time, she didn’t have the best relationships with other trainees and most were extremely bitter of yua’s success. tldr from this: lots of unaddressed conflicts and grudges from before and they still creep up to her and make her overthink from time to time
- she had one friend during her trainee days but her friend never got to debut and eventually gave up on her dream, which also broke yua’s heart and almost quit herself before trying to reach out with letters, they eventually mended though
- still goes to school, a student at (unnamed) university of arts
- her dad is a pilot and mom is a flight attendant, therefore constantly on the road (sky??) busy with work and rarely ever come home since they’re always on business trips. the kids were all told to “chase their dreams” from a young age, their parents have faith they’ll be able to make the best choices for themselves
- her paternal grandma that lives with them took care of her for the most part and actually taught the three when they were children what their parents couldnt
- so their family’s kind of rich… kind of might be an understatement actually but they live in a house
- has a brother and sister, both older than her
- brother: Asahana Yon, 26, quiet and usually serious, violin prodigy and plays for an esteemed orchestra and is section leader for it…
- sister: Asahana Yuisa, 22, trend chaser and extremely extroverted, has tons of friends and constantly hangs out with them. forced to drop out of college cause her grades were too low
- sister always refuses to talk to yua but uses her as social status when people ask
- shares a room with her sister but sister has sleepovers with her friends like half the time
- has social media where she uploads cute pictures she’s taken with equally cute captions (aka lots of kaomojis and symbols…) (someone needs to tally the amount of times i’ve said “cute” in this character sheet… :pensive

a cat sat on a mat and it drank some juice from a dish that was pink and white. it is my cat. my cat is grey and small. his name is tom. he is soft. his fur is long. i feed him a lot. he eats a lot too. tom and i like rain. rain is wet. rain is fun to play in. i bring tom out to jump in the rain. tom likes to sleep too. i sleep less than tom but i sleep a lot. i sleep from ten to ten when i want to. i find it hard to wake up. i love my bed too much, i wish i could sleep all day. i wake up and the first thing i think of is how good life would be if i could just sleep through school and all things i need to do. i am on my bed right now. my mom would not like it. my dad would not like it too, but i think it is nice on my bed. there are soft things on my bed. i have a cow plush that my mom bought me when i was one year old. it is still in good shape, just a lot less stiff than when it was first in the store. i love to write on my bed. i think all of this is in the wrong tense and all that stuff but i will not stop till i hit three o o words. i feel like what i just did is cheat a bit which makes me feel weird but i'm not sure if it is. this piece has way too much full stop. now i'm just out of stuff to write on. my mind is gone from all this hard brain work. bye bye.

Dear Yume,

hii! i hope you've been doing well ^^ it's been a while since i've written a letter, i think the last time was during the sci-fi session…? anyways! i'm writing to you to cheer you on for cabin wars! i remember the pain of having to go from here to there, chasing down everyone who threatened to take points away from the academy… it was tough, but we did end up making it through and i'm sure you all will as well!

as for the academy itself, it's slowly getting rebuilt, so don't worry about that! it involved a lot… and when i say a lot, i really mean a LOT of fairy dust to fix it all and we're still only about halfway done, but it's now much, much better than a few months ago ^^ the main building is pretty much repaired, the wings still need quite a bit of touching up but we're hoping to get it up and running again by this november at the latest. sighh… responsibilities…

overall, i hope you're doing fine! take some time to daydream a bit when you need a break, it definitely helps when you're out of motivation hehe! write back soon!! i'll be sure to reply :0

Hello!! I hope you've been doing well (and that thie letter sent at all… hopefully it didn't get soaked along the way ahaha)- It's been a bit since the last blooming of the pond, but I'd say that was definitely a big success <33 so before you ask, there's no need to worry about how we're doing over at the Pond ^^

Like probably everyone else, I'm writing to you to give you motivation for cabin wars! I know it's always quite a wild ride… but you all got this!! Remember to take breaks every now and then, spend some time just looking outside and enjoying the scenery helps a ton with destressing and can maybe give you a few good ideas as well (I should know from having tried this a few times myself… which all ended up with falling into the pond, but that's okay :,D getting soaking wet was worth it in the end, i think).

Anyways, I should probably get to tending to the pond again… always have be prepared for next harvesting season, right? If you ever get the chance and time, maybe come by and visit? The pavilion's a really nice place to relax if you ever need it <3

Hii! I wasn't sure which address you'd be reading more so I sent both just in case- I know things are… probably a lot worse than rough on your end, hopefully you all find a way to fix it soon. Really wish I could help, but I think we've got enough on our plates… let's both keep work hard, okay?

I'm sorry I had to send this in such an inconvenient way- I know you're the last person to check emails, and probably even less emails within emails, but we do operate under a strict rule that nothing comes out that can be easily tracked on foot. Maybe after all of this is done we can actually talk for real, but… sigh it's really hard to predict what'll happen in the future. I know Encryn insists it'll work out, but part of me still doesn't know if I can trust everyone. For one, we had a double agent AND a lying kidnapper, even if they were doing it to keep us safe.

Am I apologising too much? …Please forgive me if I am, I know how it feels to be apologised to like that and it's not fun, but I really don't mean to dampen the mood :,) The last thing I want is to cry and feel vulnerable in this kind of hard situation, but I guess that's part of why I'm even telling you all this- It's okay to feel like nothing's gonna work out, and it's okay to doubt the future. If there's anything I've leaned from… well, stumbling into a garden, getting kidnapped on the streets, working for a rebellious establishment… life can get really crazy, so remember to hang on tight to your memories. Make note of every moment so you won't forget it- it might end up being useful sometime later on.

“Three, two, one, go!”

Yume clinged tight to her skirt as she rounded a corner around a cube-shaped stool. “Alright, so it's ten laps around the office, three laps back and forth in the hallway right outside, two up the left then down the right staircase of the lobby, and…”

“Up the spiral, five laps around the rooftop and take the pole right back down,” Encryn finished without a split second of hesitation, before Yume could even finish her thought.

“…What was it again- oh.”

“Piece of cake. Or piece of pie, considering it was pi day just yesterday,” Encryn added, grinning as she passed Yume. Yume had already lost count of how many laps her friend had done in an attempt to keep track of her own progress. …And probably also to keep an eye out for the road to prevent the anyways nearly inevitable consequence of tripping and falling.

“Maybe for you, but… but how am I supposed to remember all of that?!” Yume protested, huffing. “I'm… not used to this much physical activity in a day, not to mention at once…”

“That just means we need to do these more often,” was the reply. The ravenette dashed out the door just as Yume started on her last lap.

Yume pedaled faster in an attempt to speed up the lap, and soon enough she was out the door as well, running back and forth through the thankfully empty hallway. After all, the brunette only agreed to the race after being completely assured that it was practice time for the trainees and none of them would be leaving their respective practice rooms for a good hour or so.“Hey, wait up-!”

“Catch me if you can~”

“You know how unfair it is that you've been running from things practically all your life and I- I… well! M-my point still stands!”

Encryn chuckled, deliberately slowing down for a bit just enough for Yume to catch up to her right as the two were about to head up the spiral staircase to the rooftop.

“You better keep your word about the pole,” Yume muttered under her breath, one palm tracing over the handrail as she hurried up the narrow staircase.

Yume had only been to the rooftop a few times- fewer than you can count on your fingers. Most of those were due to either over-extensive laundry runs where every other spot they could put a rack was already occupied, or the one time Encryn had dragged her up out of her will just to watch her fall backwards into the open air beneath them. Poor Yume almost lost her voice and sanity after that experience and would never, ever let Encryn hear the end of it.

“Calm down,” Encryn reassured her, arriving at the rooftop, “I would never lie to you or anyone… Well, unless I was instructed to.”

Panting, Yume placed her foot on the mouth of the rooftop as well, taking a moment to steady herself before continuing. “I… I don't think I can… keep… going on… for much longer…”

“…You make me wonder how my sanity is still intact after all of… of… whatever you keep putting me through,” Yume grumbled, still shaking from the pole drop even though she herself was sliding down at a barely fast speed- or barely sliding at all.

“I wish I could do that,” Encryn joked, “Must be nice getting to… wonder all sorts of things.”

An indignant noise escaped Yume's lips before the brown-haired girl turned and started walking back up the lobby stairs and in the direction of the main office.

dear dragon,

hii! i hope your studying has been going well <3 your goals are honestly really relatable (…probably not a good thing to admit out loud, but let's be real we all have things we need to improve on so!) and i'm sure they'll be great motivation for studying this session (and outside of it)!

first of all, you mentioned wanting to finish all your homework on time - and if i'm being completely honest, it… is also a very big problem that i have, as much as everyone around me also says that it shouldn't be a problem at all. usually this is because i have something that i just want to do more than homework, or that i'm scared the homework is hard and don't want to even look at it.

for me, there's really no real way to fix procrastination (:,D) but to just force myself to do the work, usually with the motivation of food cause i like food but you can use anything! set a timer for how many minutes you think you need to finish the work, then lock in and focus on it for that long before taking a break. it makes resting later on much more fulfilling as well!

as for studying for all your subjects, that definitely sounds like a lot… it's really good that you know your priorities, though! focus on studying the subjects you know you need more work in (which i'm assuming is math and history? personally i was never a history person so i stopped taking it once i could, but math is definitely something…) and do practice quizzes or problems since that helps a lot.

and finally, extracurricular work! i do take minimal amounts of extracurriculars and the workload isn't too heavy, but even in general definitely focus on your schoolwork as top priority but make sure to save some time for those as well. and if you ever get overwhelmed, just take a short break for a bit! rest your eyes, go outside or just stare out the window and come back once you're energised again. you got this!! <3

Yume inhaled. The summer breeze was blowing through the air, and it was finally warm enough to take a walk outside without the need of a thick jacket to weigh you down. She exhaled, reaching a hand out to feel a leaf hanging on a low branch nearby. For the past few months, she's been coming out here every day for one sole purpose - to take care of the secret garden. The neighbourhood was like any other, calm and overall peaceful. As far as everyone was concerned, everything was being taken care of, and as long as everyone did their part, nothing was going to go wrong.

The girl paused in front of a tree. She brushed a finger along the smooth bark of the tree, feeling the natural pattern of the wood. “Why do people cover you up anyways?” Her eyes drift to the projector and screen folded neatly away at the back of the tree, where most wouldn't notice, but it was hard to miss if you did know of its existence. “They're the ones missing out,” she said, seemingly in an attempt to reassure the tree of its significance.

She turned to the bush on the left side of the tree, and brushed apart a few of the thin branches. Not many people knew of the garden - no one she knew, at least, and she hasn't seen anyone else enter or exit as well. This part of the park was mostly desolate besides the few people walking their dogs early in the morning and in the afternoon. She took another deep breath and stepped into the garden. Although she's been here for what was probably over a hundred times by now, the rush of first discovering such a place within the modernised city still keeps coming back every time she visits. Everything was just as she had left it, every plant was growing strong and beautiful with all the care that's been put back into them since her arrival.

“I'm back~” Yume singsonged quietly, to no one but herself. It was a calming sight, the assortment of different flowers, among a variety of plants that you just won't be able to find anywhere else. “This always brings me back to when I first found out about you…” Memories of her first discovering the garden came flooding back to her. It felt like just yesterday when she had seen an unfamiliar tree in the neighbourhood park, and unknowingly fell through the very same bush that led to this exact garden. At the time, she had absolutely no idea why this garden was here, or even if it had always existed, but she was determined. Determined to find the truth about this beautiful garden, and why it's being kept away from the people of this community. Did the government know? Are they the ones doing this? There were so many questions on her mind, yet she's never gotten a definite answer to any one of them.

Tucking a strand of pink-dyed hair behind her ear, the girl picks up a watering can and quickly gets to work. Although the day was significantly longer during the summer, time really flies while enjoying oneself, and so it would only be a matter of time before the day turned to night again. She was having such a great time that she didn't even notice what seemed to be the faint sound of a moving figure just outside of the garden. And soon enough, it was time for her to return home. After double-checking to make sure she's gotten all of her supplies and that there was no one in sight, she made her way out of the bush and continued on her walk home.

The next day, Yume got up early and made the trip to the secret garden as usual. It was the same routine every single day, and it was almost tiring, but at least she had something to look forward to each day after getting out of bed. She brushed her hair into a single ponytail, leaving a bit of hair in the front as face framing pieces. It wasn't much, but it did make the gardening job a whole lot easier than having all her hair down and constantly getting in the way of everything else. She made her way through the usual path to the garden, but stopped in her tracks upon seeing an unfamiliar object on the ground. “…Huh?”

She bent down and picked up the object. It looked like it was a piece broken off from what seemed to be a flat, round object, around the size of a large coin. Parts of it were a black so dark that it seemed like it didn't belong on this world, and other parts a shiny silver that reflected the daylight. As she was rotating the shard to observe it from all different angles, rays of sunlight bounced off of the shiny surfaces and reflected up into her eye. “Aah! That's blinding-” Looking around her, there was no one that looked like they had dropped something - or maybe it was just that there weren't many people around her to start. Yume stood there for a whole two minutes, observing and seeing if anyone could possibly have dropped it, but nothing. She glanced at her watch. “Oh no! I'll be late for the daily watering…” She placed the shard into her pocket, being extra careful with wrapping it in a sheet of tissue paper so it wouldn't fall out or scratch her pocket. For some odd reason, it just felt wrong to leave it there on the street, but it still felt odd to pick something up from the streets that wasn't yours. Yume felt almost like there was someone there, watching her pick it up. Not being able to contain the possible guilt, she quickly hurried to the bush and shut the leaves(??) behind her. Panting, she makes her way to the pavilion, taking a moment to catch her breath before proceeding as usual.

After she was done with the daily watering of all the plants in the garden, Yume takes a slightly tattered notebook and a pencil out of her basket.

day 124 in the secret garden
dear diary,

today was an interesting day. i'm not even sure if i'm allowed to call it interesting yet, since it's only noon, but it was certainly odd and different from usual. i found a little shard of something while walking to the garden today, and i'm not sure what it is. it's really dark but really shiny at the same time, and i don't even know how to describe it properly. all i know is that when i picked it up, it was almost like i was being watched… or maybe i just felt guilty about keeping it, since it wasn't mine to start with… there was no one there to take it back though, so… i hope i haven't done anything wrong.

trying to protect this garden and save it from all wilting has already been such a big time commitment that i'm worried for anything that might come up… and i still haven't found out why the tree that marks the entrance to here is constantly being covered up and hidden from everyone. maybe the little shard has something to do with it? i might see if it fits into the projector when i go home, but with how it usually goes, the projector might already be in use… this all feels so confusing. is there something out there? are people trying to infiltrate our neighbourhood, or something even worse…? just thinking about all of this makes my head spin… but at least all of this rambling today gets me words for camp, right?

p.s. i've attached a picture of the object in this entry as well, just in case i do end up losing it. please take good care of it!

Yume reached up to feel the leaf that was hanging off a lower branch of the same tree. The past few days had been quite calm, and thankfully, she hasn't been contacted about the shard she had found the other day. Spending time in the garden must really have an effect on easing one's mind, because she had completely forgotten about the shard still in her pocket from a few days back. There was silence for only a split second, but was quickly replaced by the sound of screaming. A hooded figure emerged from seemingly out of nowhere and pulled her aside. “AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-” The entire process happened so fast that any random person walking on the street would probably not have noticed anything happening at all. Yume, however, was probably more scared than she had ever been in her entire life. “Wh-who are y-you?” she finally managed to stutter, to no answer. “Wh-wha-what do you want?” she tried again, but to no response as well. When she next opened her eyes, she was in an unfamiliar place - it seemed like an alleyway, but one that she had never seen before. It was dark and worn down, and it really looked like no one had been there in a very long while, possibly longer than since the garden was abandoned and closed away from everyone. Although not necessarily tied up, she was still being pressed against a wall, and it took more than a while for her to regain her breath. “What… do you want…?” She asked one last time, inwardly (and outwardly) worried about what might happen to her if she said even a single wrong word.

“Now is not the time for questions,” the figure replied, “You. Tell me what you know.”

“.. A-about…?”

“Everything,” came the reply, “I'd assume you plan on returning home after all of this, yes?"

i don't know how i ended up here. i seriously don't. the moments of that time were such a blur, it all happened so fast… i've never been kidnapped before, but all i know is that i was brought to some kind of back alley, i think, by some mysterious figure wearing a hood and mask that covered their entire face… i couldn't see who they were, but it's not like i really knew anyone who lived around me anyway. they threatened me to tell them ”everything i knew“, but of course i couldn't just trust someone random who captured me and took me to somewhere i've never even seen before? but they were threatening me and i really didn't want to be hurt, so i told them about the garden… i don't know if that was the right decision, or if i'm going to get into trouble for doing so, but now is probably too late to think about all of that anyways. it's not like anyone else knows about the existence of the garden though? i'm not even sure if that's what they wanted to hear, but they did ask for ”everything“… before i could get to the part about the shard, they took me to - well- this place. i'm being completely honest when i say that i've never seen such a place before. i don't think i've ever seen any parts of the city that look anything like this, actually. they took me here, led me to this room, and told me to stay here. and then they presumably locked the door, since i heard some sounds that sounded a bit like a turning key… key. wait. my key- it's… when did this happen!?”
