I think it has been made clear that art and sound “theft” is fine, if they give credit (and isn't even against the rules if they don't).

I've been listening to…
Ogre Battle // Queen // Queen II // Heavy Metal, Hard Rock, Progressive Metal
Orion // Metallica // Master of Puppets // Heavy Metal, Thrash Metal, Instrumental
Damage Inc. // Metallica// Master of Puppets // Thrash Metal, Heavy Metal
Snow (Hey Oh) // Red Hot Chilli Peppers // Snow (Hey Oh) // Soft Rock, Acoustic
Who Wants To Live Forever // Queen // A Kind of Magic // Power Ballad, Soft Rock
I suggest you listen to…
For a influential playlist: Damage Inc and Orion. Both of these songs are part of the album that revolutionized heavy and thrash metal forever.

The second one is What I call, auto-credit. When in your backpack, if its someone else's work, the credits go in a box near the credits that can NOT be opened by Anyone What so ever.
Maybe it could be a thing on the favorite and love-it bar that says “Credits” and you can view credits for the users who made the sprites, scripts, or anything else.

1. Sorry, no. The motto of Scratch is Imagine, Program, Share, so a share-preventing lock goes against that. If you want to show your art without it being reused, don't share it on Scratch.

Good answers! For #2 - Keeping records that say who made each sprite or costume - That's something we thought about and may still do in the future. But it's not super easy / simple to do, and would require a lot of time and effort to think through. If you'd like to help, consider making mockups of how this system might work / look. It's always good to remember our design principles when making mocks - there's a thread about that stickied at the top of this forum.

Let's see what won't work:
  • Putting your signature on a project - thieves will easily cover it up
  • Adding your custom logo - thieves will delete it and might replace it with their own
  • Asking for credit - thieves don't give a bother about you. They just want to profit.
  • Reporting stolen art/project - Remixing is in the motto, so you can't report someone for remixing (I wish they would change this)
  • Bullying thieves to give credit - obviously not a good idea
Yeah, we've got problems with thieves if there's nothing we can do. Scratch Team, your thoughts?

You can report someone for project copying though. Project copying means to reupload a project without changing anything. But still, it is hard to prevent project copying and art stealing, that is for sure.

Well, if you don't want your artwork to be copied, you can always put a logo of some sort on your artwork so that people know it's yours and not whoever's copied it.
Uh… Do you think it's fun to play a game with big watermarks across the entire game?
Well, you could put a logo at the beginning of a game, like I did in this project.
Still, they can steal the artwork themselves as the logo would go away…
What if you put a copy of the logo on top of the other one?
That's what I'm saying. A game wouldn't be enjoyable with your logo on every single costume.
I mean on top of the one at the start of the game

The community moderators don't appear to be understanding the art theft problem. If they give credit for using other's art, it's OKAY. But when they don't it's art theft. Hopefully I've cleared up what art theft is. (By the way, please comment on my profile or any of my projects if you quote this post or a lot of posts flood this topic, because Scratch doesn't notify me of this.)

Thieves who steal projects don't bother about credit. We can ask them to give credit to the original creator, but they'll just say they created it when obviously they didn't.

So here's the million dollar question:
Would it be okay to report users for remixing a project (or projects) without changing anything?
Then here is the million dollar answer: YES. Project copying is not allowed, even when remixing. I believe the ST is planning on adding a lock for copied project remixes. Lightnin, is this correct?

However, directly copying it without changing anything is not allowed. However, posting a scratch project from the main website onto somewhere else without changing anything but with credit is allowed, because the no project copying rule is not a part of CreativeCommons ShareAlike, but rather a part of the Scratch Rules and as long as the copy is not shared onto Scratch or stored on scratch servers and you give credit, you are fine, or at least I think it is.

Now then, I've been seeing a lot of post like this on this topic. However, the motto of Scratch is Imagine, Program, SHARE, not Imagine, Program, STEAL. I just want you guys to think about that before posting more post like that. Plus, in my opinion, its not fair to those who get there stuff stolen. On some famous projects, some people just remix it without doing anything and calling it there own. That's heart-breaking and really mean in my opinion.

Scratch on!
