Having a watermark would help with knowing if the person that shared the project is the creator. Normally (unless you know the original project creator), if you see a project you don’t know if it’s stolen or not. After all, if it doesn’t credit anyone, it’s likely to be the creation of the person who shared the project. But the watermark mostly solves this issue, because if the watermark doesn’t match the username of the person who shared the project, you instantly know it’s stolen, making it easier to eliminate stolen projects.

I see, so basically you are saying because it is often unknown whether it is stolen and the watermark helps with this issue. Well, I do wish to ask, have you considered if the creator himself found the stolen project or if the watermark is removable, have you considered the case where they would remove the watermark as well?
Edit 1: I just realized, the removal of the watermark would just bring itself back to a worse situation that I am trying to agrue about, so it depends whether it is worth the effort to add this as a feature which I don't think it does.

Text editors are blocked on my school device.

If its easy to remove then add encyption and decryption
makes it harder to find the watermark
easy if its a toggle in the project editor

Cuz everyone suddenly has to use a school device thats under a heavily guarded network 24/7 with no other device they can ever physically use.

Ok, my attention span isn’t that bad. I can sit through the extra 30 seconds on a Windows machine to search the string and remove it.

Only Android users can edit that unless you're able to modify files in iOS. By the way, anyone who uses the Scratch online editor or the most recent version of the offline editor will be able to have watermarks.

If you're on an Android, get a file browser that's compatible with .zip files and do the whole process. Don't forget the text editor so you can go there and then import the project.json file.

It doesn't because the project.json is only meant for internal use and isn't meant to be edited with a text editor, which is why it doesn't have formatting.
