3 forum tips for experienced forumers (in no particular order):
  1. If you are reporting a new forumer's topic to be closed, or moved to another forum, don't mention it, because then, the topic creator will think they will receive either an alert or a block.

  2. New forumers won't immediately know the rules or terminology of the forums. I have seen this happen hundreds of times (exaggeratedly), especially when experienced forumers (I won't name any) tell new forumers that they are "necroposting", which is when someone posts on an old and resolved topic (especially in the Questions about Scratch forum), causing said topic to be moved to the front page of that forum.

  3. Using Scratchblocks as a writing style is not blockspam, unless it is not relevant to the discussion. For example, this

    ExampleScratcher1 wrote:

How do I make a smooth gliding animation?
    when green flag clicked
    repeat until <(my question) = [answered]>
ask [How do I make a smooth gliding animation?] and wait
    end
    say [Thank you!]
    is not blockspam, but these

    ExampleScratcher2 (first post) wrote:

    when green flag clicked
    move (58) steps
play sound [Stock Laughter Sound Effect HD - 1 Hour v]
    forever
play sound [Stock Screaming Sound Effect HD - 1 Hour v]
    switch backdrop to [internet v]
say [i broke the internet] for (2) secs
    turn cw (15) degrees
    go to [nearby restaurant v]
    next costume
    end

    ExampleScratcher2 (second post) wrote:

    when green flag clicked
    repeat until <(out of dorito's) = [true]>
    broadcast [eat dorito chip v]
    end
say [IM OUT OF DORITO'S!!!!!!!!! :(]
play sound [Scream2 v] until done
    forever
    turn cw (120) degrees
    play sound [Scream2 v]
play sound [we have no dorito's sorry v]
    end
are blockspam, and must be reported.

Is the upgrade for Scratch or the Scratch Wiki? Also, what's the change?

Fun fact: If you have malware on a Windows NT device, it's possible that deleting system32 will severely damage the malware. It will also damage your Windows install.

See the MediaWiki release notes. We are upgrading from 1.35 to 1.39, so all changes introduced in versions 1.36 through 1.39.

Looks like the Scratch Wiki is online! However I notice that the sidebar doesn't have as many things as it did before, and when you go directly to the Scratch Wiki, there's a little text that says that I have been redirected from “Main Page” (that didn't occur before). But glad there were no other problems!

That was due to a caching issue. I cleared the cache and it looks like it's displaying properly now.

Looks good to me too, thanks for that solution. However, I also notice some other issues:

- The cologneblue skin causes pages to not display anything at all, like the page is completely blank
- The modern skin CSS does not display properly
- (Only investigated this issue for some time so may not be completely accurate) The “view new changes since” feature on the recent changes page causes the recent changes to say “No changes during the given period match these criteria.”

I know there is no official support for these skins, but for especially the cologneblue issue, it could prevent the user from reverting skins, unless they used ?useskin=vector or something to view the preferences page temporarily. Also, I'm sorry if I seem like I'm nitpicking on certain things, but I just want to make sure that the Scratch Wiki experience is optimal

Hey Jvvg! I have some questions.
  • Was there a team of people who helped in the wiki or just you.
  • What coding language did you use for the wiki?
  • How did scratch accept your wiki?

That's all.

I'm not jvvg, of course, but I can answer some of those questions. Jvvg didn't create the Scratch Wiki. LukeTek did. There's more information about the history of the site here.

The wiki is a collaborative effort, run by many contributors (2,379 as of now). The usergroup with the most power is the Bureaucrats, which jvvg is a part of. There's 18 of them, each with equal power (as far as I can tell).

Also, as for your last question:

Scratch Wiki wrote:

Eventually, the Scratch Team noticed the wiki. They liked it and wanted to advertise it on the Scratch Website, but they had some concerns: it had advertisements (like other wikis on Wikia), it was not hosted on a scratch.mit.edu domain and there was no way to tell if a user on the wiki was the same user on Scratch. To solve these problems, andresmh, JSO, and Lucario621 created a new Scratch Wiki on June 3, 2010. The new wiki was hosted on the Scratch servers. All three problems were solved: there were no advertisements, it was on a scratch.mit.edu domain and there was a way to ensure that users on the wiki were the same users on Scratch: Account creation was locked; people would request for an account instead (which can be done here).

We can take a look, but remember that we only officially support ScratchWikiSkin and Vector so I can't guarantee anything.

The Wiki was created before I even joined it. Currently technical work is performed by several people including myself, kenny2scratch, apple502j, and others. See this article for more information.
The Wiki is built using PHP. It uses the MediaWiki software with a number of extensions, some of which were purpose-built for the Wiki.
Scratch officially endorsed the Wiki before I joined it, but the article I linked gives some info on that.

With that, I could also bring up that an article about griffpatch may be warranted. It could be educational and I’ve seen many new users asking “What is griffpatch?”.~~~~

Lol I signed
Ultimately, griffpatch's only real effect on Scratch is “being popular.” Don't get me wrong, being the most popular Scratcher (by nearly any reasonable way to measure popularity) is a big accomplishment, and certainly that popularity has caused them to be noticed by other Scratchers and influence them. However, in the end, there isn't some big notable event associated with them the way there is with, say, Kaj. If we do feature Scratchers that we deem influential or popular, we then are going to have a few problems:
1. How do we define popularity/being influential, and what is the cutoff?
2. If all they have done is be popular/influential, what are we even going to write about them? Simply listing their projects or ways they influenced the community doesn't seem like it fits the aims of the Wiki.
3. These will likely become targets for attacks against these users.
4. This will likely trigger jealousy from other users who don't have Wiki pages and (rightfully) result in us getting criticism for becoming a hall of fame rather than a repository of information and knowledge.
All of that is true, but maybe we could have a subsection in another article? Perhaps in “Fame” we could mention him? I’ve never seen anyone upset because Kaj has a page. We wrote about trends MUCH, MUCH less notable then griffpatch.
