Daily for Camp Pinelake!

Forced Choice
A Divergent Fanfic
By: Abbie

“What time is it?” Nina groaned from her bed.
“I don't know, but you need to get up! Up! Up!”It was Nina's little sister Liana.
“Too earlyyyyy.” Nina mumbled at her sister.
“No you have to! Today is you apitude test!” That had Nina out of bed in a couple of
seconds. “Ouch!” She said as her head collided with the top of the bunk.
“Hurry! Hurry! Hurry!” Laina yelled down the hall.
“I'm coming!” Nina shouted back. Life in
Candor was whatever the opposite of “calm” and “quiet”. Nina was not one for straight forward things. She was a private, bold personwith lots of things hidden.
Like how she would run towards a fight, not to watch, but to help stop it. However that may be, How her own anger and confinement fueled her hate of her own faction. Like how no matter the days she counted down, leaving was always a few more than she wanted. Until now. Tomorrow she would be free of her old life. Except her sister. That had been her crushing guilt over the last few days. Liana had always loved Nina more than anyone or anything else. Her adorable, innocent little sister, who idolized her more than any dusty old leader. Who jumped up and down before she went to school and pouted when Nina left early. How would Liana make it, when there was no more Nina?
Nina hurried in the door of her first class just as the bell rang. She had a few classes before her test. Great more time to think about it. No matter how much Nina tried to keep her mind off it, her heart was speeding far to fast to for it to be good. What if she did transfer and it was horrible? What if they decided she was nothing and couldn't have a faction? What if she was factionless? Death would be better. Nina was far to nervous. The test tells you nothing. Than why did they have it? It didn't matter, her answer was still going to be the same. In only a few hours, she would be taking a test that influnenced the biggest decision of her life. She had the right to be nervous.
~several hours later~
Nina stood up with a deep breath as they called her name. It will be fine. Or at least that's what she told herself. No matter what the test said, her decision would still be the same. Just a lot harder. Or easier. Either way there was no reason to be nervous. Or plain terrified. It didn't matter. The woman in the room she was to be tested in was saying something.
“So we are going to hook these up to you,” she held up to suction-cup like circles, “And have you drink this serum. Then it's just up to you to choose.” The lady, who's name was Lia, gave Nina the serum and hooked the suction cups on her. She took a deep breath and swallowed the serum.
~Later~
Nina walked in the door of her house. “I'm home!” she yelled.
“Nina! Nina! Nina, guess what?!?” Liana was already bouncing with joy. “I got a A+ on my test!” Liana said without waiting for Nina to guess. “Ooh how was YOUR test?” At this Liana sister paused. She couldn't continue without the answer. Nina had gotten Duantless. And that choice was easier than ever.
“You know I can't tell you. Did you get to go outside?” Nina asked this knowing that Liana would be too busy telling her about what she did outside to keep asking. Just as expected, Liana began chatting away about her day. After Liana was done, Nina headed to the kitchen to make dinner. Their parents worked late and weren't very close. Nina went to bed thinking of tomorrow.
~next day~
Today was the day. It would change her life forever. Nina had got up early but it was all a blur, getting Liana up, making breakfast, riding the bus to the stage. When they reached the event, Nina hugged Liana. Her little sister seemed to know what was coming. She stopped and burst into tears.
“P-pwease don't go. I don't want you t-to leave”Liana was crying so hard.
“Hey Liana. No matter what happens, it will all be ok.” Nina's atempts to reassure her sister seemed to help. “It's gonna be fine.” But sheknew it wasn't. She was going to desert her family, her sister, for a faction she barely knew. It almost swayed her. Almost. If she stayed it would be over. She would fail her test and be factionless. So, it was decided.
THE END

Chapter 1
Kira
Faster faster faster Kira urged her steed. Once she and Cloud had been the fastest in the village, racing the wind and sky. But that was before. Now… Well, nobody raced horses anymore. Not to mention that basically everyone was an enemy or well, too poor to own any horses.
All this raced through her head as she turned on Cloud and shot her target smack through the middle. The apple dropped from the tree and onto the ground where she would collect it later. She really needed to start stocking up for winter. Before she wouldn’t have needed to stock up. No, her neighbors and family and friends would have happily given her some warm bread and an apple before she went out to gather. She still missed them.
But that wouldn’t stop her from riding. Cloud was probably her only friend. Well now definitely. Back before, well before actually a lot of things. The war, the rebelion, the fall of the castle, the spell, the assaination of the royal family, and the slavery of basically anybody were all good examples. The entire kingdom had problems. Slavery, the power struggle, the rebels, the armies, and not knowing who was on who’s side which results in the deaths of well anybody who seems supicous. Of course everyone seems suspicious though. The soldiers were also searching for the last royal family member, Princess Willow.

Chapter 2
Kira
Kira needed to get back to her cave soon. Cloud was hungry and she needed to check to see if her Hope had returned. She also had to be sure nobody had wandered in on accident and found her secret. You would have to be insane to hide any illegal egg or jewel right now but she wasn’t hiding just any illegal jewel. People called the eggs “jewels'' because that was basically what they looked like: small gemstone covered rocks. She was hiding a dragon, a phoenix, and a snow tiger. The 3 weren’t hatched but they still were dangerous. And in this world if you're dangerous you are in danger.
The moment she reached the cave something was off. There was another presence within the hole on the mountain. Before Kira could stop him, Cloud raced straight into the cave, stopping so abruptly that it was all she could do to cling on. Inside the entrance was her Hope.
Hopes were somewhat dangerous, unreliable things, best used in emergencies. Her predicament was an emergency. The entire world had basically gone to war with itself so……. She had assumed it was ok.
Back to the point, her Hope was waiting patiently by the doorway for her to accept, or a deny. Taking a deep breath, Kira said, “Answer me Hope, give your message.”
Slowly the Hope began to talk in a deep, majestic voice, “Hear me now, one with a heart, I hear your calls for help and have awoken to save your wild land. But it is you who must sway the people to your side before I may help you. Your jewel will guide you, the others will follow your lead, now rise before it's too late.”
Kira sighed as she gave the Hope an apple and headed towards the back of the cave. Hopes were a lot like messenger birds with butterfly wings, but they traveled at almost impossible speeds.
Cloud whined, and shook his mane, reminding her she had work to do. As she gently brushed Cloud’s mane into a glistening sheet, Kira called her dog over. Olive was a small hunting dog who had been injured and left behind when a fox grabbed his foot. Kira had found him before he died from the heat and his leg wound. Now he was her loyal companion and made it his own job to fetch the apples she and Cloud harvested. Using her bow and arrows for something as pointless as shooting apples seemed ridiculous, but she still did it. Apples had lots of benefits, such as the fact that there was a grove less than a mile North of where she had decided to live.
When she finished brushing Cloud, she went to the back of the cave where the small waterfall provided clean fresh water for her and the animals. The stream outside would work too but it was easier to stay in the cave. Besides, there were fish in the water out there. The fish were her and her pets main source of protein, well her and olive anyway.
Checking the sun to make sure it wasn’t too dark, Kira slipped outside and grabbed a fishing net she had made with some supplies from the town. After a few minutes her net had 4 fish stuck in it. Perfect she thought as the fish wriggled about on her way up to the cave for dinner and rest, A good dinner tonight.

Chapter 3
Kira
The sun slowly rose above the dark pines spread out before the cave. Kira stretched and yawned, “Olive?” she mumbled, getting a responding yip from Olive. Cloud was still sleeping, so she dragged herself over to the waterfall and poked her head behind the waterfall to peek at her hidden jewels. All three glittering ovals were nestled together in a cavelet full of soft grasses and leaves.
Muttering about vague Ancients, Kira headed back into the main cavern. Deciding that she should make the best of the warm weather, Kira headed out to look for something to trade in town that day. Fish were worthless, apples too easy to get, maybe a bird egg? She had some of those.
Racing Cloud to town, she kept thinking of her jewels, the Hope message, and her cave. When she finally arrived in town the shops were just barely opening. Kira hurried into a shop advertising rope, cloth, leather, and fur coats.
“What may I get for you ma'am?” asked the owner.
“1 fur coat, 8 squares of fabric, a sheet of leather, and 5 lengths of rope.” Kira told the shopkeeper.
“Can you pay?” he asked, looking doubtful, “That's a lot of supplies.”
Kira threw a pouch of gold on the counter. “Your pay” she said, smiling sweetly. The shopkeeper huffed and gave her the materials. Before she left a boy only a little older than her came in (she was 14). He bought almost nothing and looked desperately hungry. Kira left in a hurry when she saw him staring at her.
All the way home she felt odd like someone was watching her. Maybe it was the hollow look the small children gave her when she passed them in the streets or saw them in the alleyways. Either way she didn’t like it. Or perhaps it was the way that boy had stared at her in the shop, like he knew something she didn’t, like he knew her secret.
Forbidden thoughts Kira told herself as she and Cloud headed home. That was not a possibility. Even telling herself that it wasn’t an option wouldn’t stop her from racing Cloud back as fast as she could.
When she reached the cave all was well. She gave Olive a bone from their fish last night, and took Cloud out to an area she had fenced off and taught him to stay in for grazing. Then she sat by the river and caught a few fish to dry for winter. Everything was calm all evening.
After eating a quick dinner, Kira went to bed in a cavelet near the back of the cave. She had stored her new supplies in another cavelet towards the front earlier that day. She was fortunate to have found a cave big enough for Cloud, Olive, her stuff, herself, and anything else. The cavelets and waterfall were also really important for her to have.
When Kira woke up again she felt another presence. It was familiar but…. Not one of her animals. Quietly she slid out of her cavelet, and into the shadows near the back of the main cavern.
“Come on in buddy, it's raining out there.” said a voice near the front of the cave. “It’s fine there’s nothing scary in here.” said the voice again. Scary in here, scary in here echoed the cave.
As quietly as she could Kira peered towards the front of the cave. She was absolutely silent on the outside, but inwardly freaking out, because the voice at the front of the cave was the boy from the shop.

Chapter 4
Kira
How had he found her? More specifically, why had he found her? Actually that was an if-he-found-her-question. Kira decided she would just have to wait for him to leave. An hour passed and the rain went on. What if he got curious and explored? Then what would she do? What if he found the jewels?
Just as she was about to give up hope he would leave, the rain began to slow down. The boy noticed too, he sat up and murmured to his horse, a large black mare he called Onyx. Onyx was nibbling on some grass near the front of the cave. Cloud was probably still in his pasture. Kira hoped he was ok.
Now that the situation seemed to have smoothed out, Kira finally relaxed. Until the boy walked towards the back of the cave. Towards where she was hiding. Thinking fast she decided to go with the truth, he would surely recognize her as the girl from the shop.
So when he peered towards her hiding place squinting into the darkness, she stepped into the cavelet, and pretended to walk out. Blinking in surprise, she stared. “How-what-why- w-what are you doing in my cave?” she stumbled.
“Hey, you're that girl from the shop! Well, I stopped in here because it was raining and I didn’t want Onyx to get sick.” he said.
“Onyx?” she asked, looking confused. “Who is that?”

“Oh my horse, she is over there. Do you live here? Where is your family? Why were you in the village alone? It’s dangerous now, you know.”
“I know,” she replied. “And I do live here. My family… Isn’t around anymore.” she said, swallowing.
“I’m sorry,” he said. “I never got your name. I’m Link.”
“Kira. Are you from here?” she asked.
“No, I’m from some village on the coast,” he explained. “Are you?”
“No, I had to flee my village when the royal family was assassinated and the rest of my family were shipped off to be slaves.” Kira said bitterly. “I haven’t been there since. It’s just me, Cloud, and Olive.”
“Cloud and Olive? Are they animals?” asked Link.
“Yah, I never really did well with humans.” Kira admitted. “Cloud’s my horse and Olive is my dog.”
“I have a pet raven. Her name is Pepper. She probably is out hunting. She always is.” he told her. “I was never good with humans either.”
“We are a lot alike.” Kira said with a smile.
“Yah we are.” he said before staying silent.
“You hungry?” Kira said, eventually setting out a mismatch of plates, pans, and utensils.
“Yes, thank you.” he replied. “Can I help you cook?”
“Sure,” she said. “I can make eggs. I don’t usually burn those.”
“Sure.” he told her with a laugh, as he dug through his satchel for an egg. “I had some in here. Oh, here!” he said, holding up an egg, smiling. Kira laughed, he was so pleased with himself, it was funny.
“Come on you, let’s get cooking.” she said, still smiling.

“Okay” Link said, thinking how easy it was to be friends with Kira. She had immediately accepted him. The similarities between her and the people in his village were eerie. The same long black hair, pale skin tone, and high voice all made her resemble people in the town he was from. It was odd.
“What was that?” Kira whispered, breaking Link from his daze. There was a strange noise coming from the mouth of the cave. “I’m going to check it out.” she whispered, as she slid back into the shadows.
“Okay” he whispered back, it was eerie that she could move through the shadows without being seen. It was almost as if the shadows moved to her, around her. Nah, she isn’t a shadow master that just wasn’t it. Trick of the light or something.
“Oh, it was just Cloud” Kira called back, “Here boy, would you like an apple?”
“Cloud is a boy? I thought he was a girl.” Link smiled, shaking his head. “He has a beautiful coat,” he said, walking towards the front of the cave. It was true, Cloud was white as snow with light gray dapples covering his back. “Where did you find him?”
“I bought him from a trader up North.” Kira corrected. “It feels like forever ago.”
“Yah.” he said. After a while he said, “I wonder where Onyx wandered off to.”
“Probably somewhere out in the valley. There are a lot of good places for a horse to graze out there.” she told him as Cloud crunched happily on his apple.
“Don’t burn the eggs!” he exclaimed when the pan began to sizzle too much.

“I’m not, well at least yet.” she said. “At least it’s not fish. I overcooked my fish once and Olive refused to eat it. He is way too polite to be a hunting dog.”
Sighing Link said, “I need to go find her before she gets herself in trouble. She has a habit you know.”
“I never would have guessed. Do you want to eat first? Then I can help you without burning breakfast.” Kira told him.
“Why not?” he said, grabbing a plate and scooping an egg onto it. “But let's hurry. I don’t want Onyx getting lost.”
“Okay.” Kira replied, copying him and grabbing some food. “I’m going to ride Cloud. He needs his exercise.” She also needed some time to process everything that had just happened.
When they had both finished eating, Kira put the dishes under the waterfall to keep off the bugs while they were gone. Kira put Cloud’s saddle on and hopped up onto his back. “Let’s get going. I’m going to look in the forest. You can look in the fields. Meet back here at noon.” Kira told him.
“Got it.” Link replied. Watching as Kira galoped out of the cave on wind, her long black hair streaming behind her. Like a shadow. Nope… not going there again. He sighed and headed out to search.

Chapter 5
Kira
The wind racing behind Kira was perfect. How could wind do so much to ease someone's worries? Of course she had a job on this ride. It wasn’t just a race against the wind.
Suddenly like a string being cut, Kira’s sense of peace snapped. Before her lying on the ground was a trail of blood, leading straight towards a copse of bushes.
Slowly, not to panic Cloud, Kira slid onto the ground. The blood was still fresh. Reaching out her senses she felt something. Someone or something was still in there. Walking cautiously over to the bushes, Kira grabbed some cloth, just in case it was a hurt animal like Olive. Instead, when she pulled back the bushes, there was a person.
The girl lying in the red stained leaves was no older than she was. The way she curled up broke her heart just to look at it. The dirt that covered her showed she had been in the woods for a while. How long would be determined later, but right now she just needed to get her back to the cave.
The majority of the blood was coming from a deep cut across her arm along with various scratches and cuts. Gently Kira lifted the girl onto Cloud’s back and hopped on with the girl. She carefully wrapped the girl’s arm in bandages then began to ride carefully home.
The second they reached the cave, Kira slid the girl off Cloud onto the floor. She had clearly been unconscious for several hours. Careful of her scratches, Kira wrapped the girl's arm tighter again in bandages. It was dangerous to leave her cuts uncleaned but she wasn’t sure she could handle the water right now.
“What happened?!?” came a voice from the cave entrance.

“Link! I found her in some bushes and she’s nearly dead and… oh please help me!” Kira exclaimed as Link rushed over.
“Do you have any medicine?” Link asked in a hurry.
“No I don’t have any but I have a few herbs.” Kira replied. “Can we save her?” she whispered.
“I don’t know.” Little did they know they were trying to save the princess.

Chapter 6
Link
1 week later
It was early morning when Link got up. He walked over and peered into the cavelet where Kira and the still unconscious girl were sleeping. Kira was still asleep even though it was already past sunrise. Oh well, he could still make breakfast.
As he cooked, he couldn’t help rerun the events of the past week. He had gone from being on the run to having the closest thing he had to a home in almost 2 years. Kira was so kind to him, even though he was rather rude and had stared at her in the shop. Why was it so hard to believe the peace could last? Probably because it couldn’t. The girl lying in the cavelet was proof the world was still in danger.
They had decided the cut had come from a sword. It was deep and had clearly been there for several days or perhaps even a week. Fortunately the infection in the cut wasn’t bad at all. Kira had gone to the village the day after they found the girl and got some disinfectant so the swelling had gone down a lot.
“Good morning.” mumbled a voice from behind Link. He turned to see Kira was up. Her hair was in a messy heap and she was clearly still half asleep.
“I made batter cakes.” Link said. Batter cakes were basically little blobs of flour and egg cooked until they were crispy.
“Really? They’re my favorite! I just never knew how to make them. How did you know?” Kira exclaimed.
“I didn't,” Link said. “But they were always my favorites when I was a kid.”

After they had both eaten, Kira decided to go for a ride. “You can
come.” she said. “The girl is stable enough to be left alone. And you
can ride Cloud with me since Onyx is grazing. Again.” Link thought a ride would be fun but… would it be safe? ”Oh please” she begged puppy-eying him. “Nothing bad will happen.”
“Oh fine.” he finally agreed with a sigh. After some adjusting and help from Cloud, both of them were seated in Cloud’s saddle. Besides, he hadn't ridden in days. The feeling of flying… well he missed it. Clearly Kira had too.
As soon as they had cleared the cave, Kira urged Cloud faster. Faster, faster, faster until everything was a blur. The trees, grass, mountains, lakes, glaciers, and sky all seemed to fly, racing them before falling back behind them.
They couldn’t run forever though. Cloud needed to rest soon, so they stopped over in a valley surrounded by snow capped mountains.
“Wow” Kira whispered, staring awestruck at the beautiful mountains and glassy lake. Even though the sun had already risen the mountains were blocking the view, it appeared to just begin rising over the mountains.
“It’s beautiful,” Link said. “Want to go on a walk? We can explore a little.”
“Sure.” Kira replied. The two of them began to walk towards the lake, leaving Cloud to rest in the soft grass.
“Look at those trees, they look ancient.” Link said pointing towards a copse of dark gnarled trees. Looking closer, all of the grass near the trees was blackened and withered.
“I wouldn't go near them.” Kira said. “The grass looks… diseased. I wonder why.”

“What if something about the water in the lake is bad? We should
leave soon.” Link told her.
“Aww come on. It’s not hurting us if we stay away from it.” Kira replied, puppy-eying him again.
“Oh fine. You need to stop using puppy-eyes to charm me into agreeing with you.” Link told her, earning him a grin. “It’s unfair.”
“No, it’s fair.” she insisted. “Besides, it's fun to bother you.” Kira said grinning.
“For you.” Link grumbled.
“Oh cheer up.” Kira complained. When Link didn’t smile she frowned a little. Then Kira said, “I have an idea! We can play a game. Tag, you're it. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 go!” she said, racing off.
“What? No way!” Link said. “Tag? That’s a kid game! We are like 5 years older than that.”
“Please. We barely have any fun now that we are older. Why not have some fun now?” Kira told him. She was using her puppy eyes again.
“Fine, but you have to stop puppy-eyeing me.” Link finally consented. “And you're it first. 3, 2, 1, go!” he added, running towards the lake. Link was fast but Kira was way faster.
“No fair. You're too fast,” Link said when Kira tagged him in less than a minute. “I can’t even get within 10 feet.”
“Okay, um… What else should we play?” she agreed.
“Cloud might be rested enough to go back. We could head home and rest.” Link said, but he was hesitant to go back already.
“Why don’t we ride Cloud over to the Filone River and stop there before we head back. That would be fun. There is a patch of blackberries and we can bring some back.” she said. The Filone River was a gently flowing river that snaked through the trees a few leagues south of the edge of the mountains.
They both clambered up onto Cloud and took off. The beautiful scene slid from view as they sped back towards the forest of dark pines. Most of the outer forest was dark pines but beyond them were ancient oaks, weeping willows, maples, spruce, aspen, and beautiful white birch trees reaching for the sky.
As the ground and surroundings sped past, Link and Kira hung on tight. Cloud was an extremely fast, well-bred horse with capabilities in speed like no other. Link still needed to find out how Kira got him.
Once they reached the river, Kira hopped off, stumbling on unsteady legs. “Sorry, I can’t walk.” Kira said when she tripped and fell.
“It’s fine, I can barely stand.” Link told her, brushing the apology away. He looked around and was surprised to see that they were in a small clearing hemmed with dark old Oaks and full of bright flowers, grass, and small bushes covered in red and black-purple berries.
One side of the clearing the Filone River flowed by with a gentle strength. On either bank sand covered the edges. Strangely the river bed was not made of sand, causing the river to be muddy and brown, but of small shimmering pebbles that glistened and danced with light in the sun.
“Here, for you.” Link said, gently pressing a glimmering pebble into her hand. “You probably have way more back at the cave but…” He didn’t finish the sentence.
“Thank you.” Kira said so quietly Link could barely hear it. “I actually don’t have one of these. I never have had enough time to come down here because I’m gathering and hunting and training as much as I can.” Kira told him. “I love it.” She smiled at him.
Cloud whinnied and bolted around the clearing. Link momentarily forgot what was happening. Cloud was going crazy screeching and bucking like crazy. Suddenly, like he had been frozen, Cloud stopped. His mane flopped downward and he calmed. Link looked sideways and saw Kira holding up one hand and staring at Cloud with a look of deep concentration on her face. He froze. Slowly Kira’s tense posture relaxed, and Cloud began moving about normally again.
“You're a Shadow Mage aren’t you?” Link said. Kira swallowed and slowly dipped her chin. “Why didn’t you tell me? I thought I could trust you!” Link exclaimed, his voice rising.
“I’m sorry.” was all Kira whispered. There were tears streaking down her face.
My fault. Link thought watching as the tears dripped down her face. Some part of him wanted to reach over and wipe them off her face, another part wanted to storm away. Instead he did nothing. Good said that mean part of his head. She deserved it.
“I'm so sorry. Please forgive me.” Kira whispered.
“I-I don’t know if I can.” Link wasn’t angry. He was sad. He had trusted her, laughed with her. And she had hid everything from him.
Link turned away. The best way was to ignore her. He could leave tomorrow. Pack his stuff tonight and be gone by morning.
“Please.” Kira’s voice was sad.
He turned around to look at her. “Fine.” The word was laced with anger. “Because you helped me.” If only she had known what her kind had done to him. But Link was too kind to stand and do nothing when someone was hurting.
“I-I’m sorry I yelled at you.” Link mumbled.
“It’s okay. I am truly sorry I hid it from you. I really am.”
“It’s fine. I would hide it too.”
Kira put her head down and looked at her feet.
All of the sudden, Kira’s head jerked up. “Pepper,” she said in a rush. “She says someone is at the cave.”
—————————————————————————-
Through Pepper’s eyes
The girl moved throughout the cave. Slipping from shadow to shadow. The girl slithering about was the sleeping one. Or she used to be. Now she was not sleeping.
However that was not the point, at the very front of the cave, hidden behind a large boulder, was a young man. He wore tattered clothes and had a large white border collie sitting patiently next to him. Despite the appearance of being on the run and definitely not someone who lived in the village, he wasn’t necessarily bad either.
Suddenly there was a thump and the boy peered anxiously into the darkness. The dog whimpered. Slowly the boy slid out from behind the boulder and deeper into the cave. The slithery girl in the shadows lunged out and snatched him. The dog barked and raced to help the struggling boy. Even though the girl had spent long days asleep, she was still very strong and quickly bound the boy in a rope against a wooden post used to tie off the tall legs-the humans called them “horses”.
“Call off your beast.” she said slowly circling him from a place near the wall.
“Bubbles back! At ease! That better?” he said, directing the last part towards the girl by the wall.
“Yes.” the girl said. She slid to the mouth of the cave.
“What are you going to do with me?” said the boy. He didn’t look like he would be happy if they kept him like this. “I really don’t want to stay here. It’s kind of boring.”
The girl was not paying any attention to him though. Her hair streamed out behind her like a dark curtain. Suddenly she let out a piercing whistle.
A howl came back. Like a response. Now the boy in the chair had a true look of fear in his eyes. Wolves were not to be played with.
Before any of the humans on the ground could react, 2 wolves burst into the cave.
“King! Emerald!” the girl yelled. Pure joy on her face as she hugged both wolves. “I’ve missed you both so much.” Both of the wolves licked her cheeks and allowed themselves to be petted and squeezed.
The larger, male wolf looked up, straight at the bird perched high in the cave.
Caw! The vision disoriented and flipped as Pepper flew from the cave out to the sky.

Chapter 7
Kira
“Kira. Kira! Kira wake up!” came a voice through the haze. Darkness pressed in on all sides. No, there was a glimmer of light, a spark. Wait! There was a shape. A person.
“Kira please.” the shape whispered. “Wake up.” Slowly, groaning from the efort, Kira pulled herself free from the darkness.
“Link?” she mumbled. “Is that you?” Everything was swimming, floating, moving, and blurring in front of her. Kira closed her eyes again.
“I’m right here. What happened? You said something about Pepper before you lost consciousness. What was that? You were unconscious for nearly 30 minutes.” Link said, hovering above her. “Wait, are you ok?” he said when Kira whimpered from the pain.
“Yah, I just have a bad headache.” Kira said in a tired voice. “I’m fine.” she insisted when Link tried to make her lie back down.
“Just rest. You will be better soon.” he told her, succeeding in getting her to lay down.
“Something. Important.” Kira mumbled, already falling asleep.
“Shhhh. It can wait. If only Pepper were here…” Link said quietly. Then I could try to have her bring Onyx over. Link finished in his head.
Like someone had pulled a trigger, “Pepper!” Kira said, snapping awake. “The cave we have to get back. Now.”
“Woah. Kira, you aren’t going anywhere.” Link said. “I mean no offense but you're kinda in a bad situation. You have a bad headache and have been out for half an hour.”
“We need to go though. Like now.” Kira said. Her dizziness was back. Actually it was getting worse. Way worse.
“No we don’t.” Link said stubbornly. “I’m staying with you and you aren’t going anywhere.” Link unsaddled Cloud and sat on the grass beside her. “It will be fine, nothing is going to go wrong.” was the last thing Kira heard before she fell into a deep sleep.
Nobody saw the shadowy figure as it slipped out of the clearing from the old tree’s shadow. Cloud retreated to the river. Link never noticed the figure in black. But someone had.

Chapter 8
Willow
The boy who she had captured was named Jake. He claimed. He said he was from a village but that was doubtful. Nobody had swords in the villages. No, the soldiers had ransacked all weapons from villages. This was not a poor villager from a destroyed village. He was strong. So who was he?
“Who are you?” cut off her train of thought. The boy in the chair had spoken. King growled a warning. The boy shut his mouth.
“That is none of your business.” she replied. Ha! Tell him who she was? Never. She might as well sign her death warrant.
Suddenly, Emerald burst into the cave. They are coming. The girl is hurt and the boy is desperate. They are not soldiers. Emerald told her. What are they? She replied. Normal. The girl is a shadow mage but is unconscious. She may be more than just a mage… Emerald responded. We must let them in, they agreed.
As the boy drew nearer, the girl was about to step into the light when the girl the boy was carrying awoke.
“Someone else is here.” the girl said, looking straight into the girl’s eyes. “Who are you?”
“I can’t tell him.” she responded from the shadows of the boulder.
“Ok. Link you can take Cloud out to graze. Oh and I’m Kira.” she said. When Link tried to protest, Kira said, “I can handle it.” Kira walked over to the creek and gestured for her to sit down. “Ok, now you are?”
This “Kira” could be trusted. The girl took a deep breath and said, “Princess Willow”

Chapter 9
Kira
“How.” was all Kira could think as all the thoughts, guesses, and assumptions she had heard and thought came flying through her head. Probably dead. Will fight for the throne. In hiding. I hope she is safe. Not a worthy princess. And more cruel and kind words from all the villagers. How would she live with so many soldiers chasing her? That one was what she thought, how could Willow still be alive?
“You can’t tell anyone ok? Nobody can know.” Willow continued when Kira nodded. “When they killed my parents I ran South to Flicker Forest. They chased me everywhere I went. I just kept going South. Farther and farther. When I hit the river a group found me. One slashed me and King and Emerald killed the rest.”
“You’re wolves.” Kira said. “Where are they? Where is the boy in the chair?”
Willow’s eyes went huge. “How do you know about them?”
“I… I’m a shadow mage.” Kira said.
Willow narrowed her eyes. “You aren’t going to turn me in are you? Like the other traitors?”
“No! What do you mean other traitors?”
“There were men, all wearing black, when my parents were assassinated. They were mages.”
Several hours later
“Can you let me out now?” yelled a voice from the cave.
Willow winces, “Should we let him out?”
“When Link gets back.” Kira replied. She had goosebumps from the cold. The stream was damp and not helping.
“Remember, to him my name is Nataleigh.” Willow was also shivering.
“Ok and where are your wolves?” Kira asked.
“One whistle away.” Willow said grinning. “They are hunting in the forest.”
“I hope they like dogs. Olive would not be happy if he was growled at.”
Just then Link walked over trailing Onyx and Cloud. “How did it go?” Link asked.
Quickly Kira fed him the cover story. She definitely felt guilty.
“We really should let that poor villager go.” Kira said when she had finished. The sun was setting and she didn’t want him to have to walk home at night.
The three of them began the trek up the bumpy slope towards the cave.
When they reached the entrance the villager called out, “Are you going to free me yet? It’s getting late and I’m hungry.” He peered towards them, “Oh wait there are three of you. Any chance I can leave yet? Also, can I have some food?”
“Oh yah you were right, he is talkative.” Kira said. “Should we send him with some food?”
“Sure we have plenty.” Link said.
“Wait, is it seriously that easy? No imprisonment?” The boy said. “And food?” He said when Link nodded. “Wow you guys are nice compared to her.” Willow scowled as he glanced pointedly in her direction.
“I still don’t think he is a villager.” Willow said glaring.
“Why not Nataleigh?” said Link. “I mean he doesn’t look suspicious.”
“I have a name you know.” The boy said, cutting Willow off. “Please to meet you. I’m Jake.”
“It doesn’t really matter now that you're leaving.” Willow said.
“Okay, okay. Sheesh, you have quite the temper.” Jake said. “I mean you have only said bad things to me.”
Willow glared. “Just because we can let you go doesn’t mean we have to.” Willow snapped.
“Woah calm down you two. No need to fight.” Kira said. “Nateliegh, you need to calm yourself.” Link said.
“You're siding with him.” Willow snapped. “You just met him!”
“Yah well I just met you.” Link said. “And he is acting a lot more trustworthy.”
Willow glared at him and said, “You are an idiot.”
Soon they were both trading insults. Which escalated to fighting. “ENOUGH!” Kira yelled. She had succeeded in getting Jake out and was pulling the two bickering teens apart. “We don’t need any more problems than we already have.”
“Yah. Aren’t you supposed to be like a gang?” Jake added.
“We aren’t a “gang” and you haven’t exactly helped.” Kira told him.
“Well it’s not my fault she tied me up!” Jake said, looking at Willow.
“Just be quiet.” Kira said with a sigh.
Jake stopped talking with only a few mutters about bossy girls.
“Ok, Jake you should go down to the stream and get a drink. We will decide what to do.” Kira said.
“What are we going to do?” asked Link as soon as Jake was gone. “He certainly doesn’t seem like a vicious soldier.”
“Evil comes under many disguises.” Willow muttered under her breath.
“Not really sure what that means but ok.” Link said with a shrug.
“I have no clue,” said Kira with a sigh, “Maybe we should-” Crackkk. Everyone paused. “What was that?” Kira whispered.
Everyone looked at each other. “Lighting?” asked Link quietly.
Kira looked at Willow. Willow’s face had a different kind of fear on it. She looked as if there was something out there worse than soldiers.
“Wil-Nataleigh, what is it?” Kira asked. She had almost slipped.
“Nothing.” Willow said sharply. “We need to leave. Now.”
“What about all this stuff?” Kira asked.
“Grab as much as you can. I need to find my wolves.” Willow said and raced out the opening.
Kira sighed and began gathering baskets. She had liked her cave a lot. It had given her safety and a home for a long time. Link and Kira each filled 3 baskets with food, rope, blankets, clothes, and supplies. When they were done Kira raced out the cave, hopped on Cloud and grabbed a pouch of coins. Willow was nowhere in sight.
“I’ll be right back.” she yelled to Link as she rode off toward the village.
When Kira reached the village she headed straight to the blacksmith's house. She knew that after this she would never be allowed to trade in the village again but she still needed to do it. Kira snuck around the back of the house and quietly pulled the wagon out from it’s shed. After securing Cloud to the wagon, Kira slipped back into the shed and put the pile of coins on the counter.
“Ok Cloud, let’s go.” she whispered. Cloud started at a walk and sped up to a trott. The wagon didn’t slow him down in the slightest and soon they had reached the cave.
“How did you get that?” Willow asked from the entrance. She had found her wolves.
“I borrowed it. But I left some money. And I will return it. Someday.” Kira told her. She clearly was guilty.
“Good. Soon we will be out of here and into that forest.” Willow replied, oblivious to Kira’s guilt.
“Where did Link go?” Kira asked. Her eyes darted from the cave entrance to the back. Willow peered into a cave. Shaking her head. Neither could find him.
As if Link had heard them, he walked into the cave with the bo-with Jake.
“There you are! That scared me, we couldn't find you.” Kira said to Link.
“I’m fine.” Link said. “I just needed to get him in before we left. Unless we want to leave him behind.”
“No!” For some reason Kira was sure this boy was important. Everyone else was looking at her weird though. “He could tell someone.” She pointed that out and suddenly it made so much sense to them.
“We need to leave immediately.” Willow was always so practical.
“But-” Kira started to protest and then stopped herself. She knew very well the dangers of staying here and getting caught. It just felt… hard to leave her only home left. Kira would miss the pine trees and the smell of fresh mountain air.
But she had to. And with that thought she raced over to Cloud and hopped on. “Link, you ride Onyx and Willow, I mean Nataliegh, you ride in the wagon.”
“What about me!” It was Jake. He was standing off to the side looking confused. “And where are we going?”
“One, you're in the wagon, and two, if we knew we would tell you. Can you and Nataliegh get your pets too? I need to grab one last thing.” Kira turned and ran inside the cave. She scrambled over to the waterfall and stuck a hand inside. After a few seconds of fumbling around, she managed to grab hold of the smooth stone. Kira pulled her arm out and shoved it into her satchel.
“Olive! Come on!” Kira grabbed Olive under her arm and raced back to the wagon. She shoved Olive into the wagon beside Jake. “Don’t let him fall off!” She told him before hopping up on Cloud. Kira looked over at Link on Onyx and took off.
They were on their way.

Firey Sky
By: Abbie

Prologue

Once upon a time in a far away land where mountains punctured the sky that glowed red and orange, one dared to reach beyond the fiery sky and touch the blue. Her name was Jessa Flo-Lay.

Chapter 1
12 days. That was how long the Sparks had gone without any progress. If the guards hadn’t been so intent on keeping the caravan safe, they would have freed the slaves by now. At midnight. At midnight they would strike the caravan. At midnight they would have 10 more slaves, hungry and weak, at their hands. But they would be free. That is what matters. Or at least she had told herself this a million times. If the slaves didnt join them to fight back, collect and steal food, and stop the guards from burning their safe house to the ground, the Sparks might as well quit this whole hopeless-but-we-are-still-trying mission. Maybe if they had a stronger leader. No, not going there again. Jessa was strong. Strong enough to hold her own against a bunch of guards. So why couldn’t she stop worrying about being a good enough leader for her mission.
“Ma’am. There is someone here to see you.” Her messenger stood by the door of her office. Her office was a small but homey room with brightly colored rugs and elaborate tapestries. The desk was wood but had small diamond shapes carved into the polished flara wood. Flara trees were fire resistant, water proof, and stronger than any material in the entire kingdom of Rosae. Of course there could be stronger materials beyond the borders of Rosae. The Needles rose to the north, the Marshes to the west, the GrassLands to the south, and the Pavala Desert to the east. The terrain around Rosae created a barrier like no human could ever surpass. Every direction was blocked-the Marshes were full of quicksand and far too dangerous to brave. Besides, who knows what's in there? The Pavala Desert was so dry you would be driven insane within a day. The GrassLands were unexplored and could hold anything. And the worst of all-the Needles. The Needles were sharper than any blade, stronger than anything. Well the Needles were stronger than flara wood. But the worst part about the Needles was that no matter how many soldiers, spys, officers, children, royalty, commoners, farmers, slaves, blacksmiths, and so many more people, no one ever came back alive if they got within 50 feet of the foothills. You would think that they would have decided the loss was too much, but there was a reason for this. The tallest mountain in the Needles, poked through the sky. The tip of Mount Jilo disappeared into the orange fiery red that covered the entire empire of Rolae. And prophecy said, The darkness reches and devours, if the fire still burns when the shadows stretch far, the world will break apart. 5 shall chance it, true at heart, and save your light from the dark. It seemed the prophecy was true. Every day since the moment the scroll fell into the hands of the Emperor the Needle's “death circle” as people called it, grew. And it was getting faster. Now when it originally took a year to grow a foot, it was growing an inch every week. Within a year the entire empire would be devoured by the circle. And worse. According to Jessa’s private investigations, it was starting to appear on the other borders. Small at first. Just like how the Needles started. If she was right, and she usually was, then the entire world was in danger.
“Bring them in.” Jessa replied. The messenger pulled a young woman, no a girl, clad all in black. She couldn’t be any older than Jessa was. Jessa was surprisingly young for a leader of a rebel group. Most leaders were somewhere from 18-20 but Jessa was only 15.
“Speak.” Jessa said. Her eyes never left the girl’s eyes. After a minute the girl dropped her gaze to the floor. Jessa had won. Her stare always made them look away.
“I am here with a message.” The girl’s voice was strong when she looked weak.
“I have a messenger for that.” Jessa’s voice was cold and sharp. The girl looked surprised by her response. There was fear in her big, brown eyes. Poor girl Jessa thought. “Get on with it.”
The girl looked up and said, “There was a riot in the south eastern villages a few days ago. Where they get the slaves. They are hoping to get help from the Sparks. It turned into a full on rebellion within a couple of hours. They sent me to ask for help. I learned more on the way about the rebellion. They are saying the soldiers didn’t bring enough help. They think the reinforcements will come. I-I wanted to ask you if you can wreck their weapons and supplies.”
After a moment Jessa says, “I don’t think that will affect them. They ought to have enough wealth to buy more. Plus I can’t risk my people for a mission that will provoke more attacks. Who sent the soldiers anyway?”
“Oh.” She looks sad. “I don’t know which one sent them. It might help if you know they all wore red uniforms and carried swords.”
“I see…” Jessa thinks about it. The young girl is in no shape to get back. If only there was something that would do more than delay the soldiers a day. Or less. “I have an idea! We have extremely high stocks of sleeping gas. It can stay in effect for up to 10 days if we release enough.” When she noticed the horror on the girl's face she quickly added, “We don’t drug them for fun. It’s so we can get the slaves free when there are guards on the caravan.”
The girl looked relieved. “D-do you think it will work ma’am?”
“We can’t know until we try.” The answer was grim and didn't exactly ease the girl’s worries. “If our stores are full, and they stop directly at the port, all will go well and no one on our side should be hurt. Of course the probability of that is… 10-none.” Jessa was upright. Sometimes people would say a little too upright. But she was a leader. And playing on fake odds didn’t get anyone anywhere.
“If we get ready today, we can get it done tomorrow, send help to the villages the day after, and get done with this whole thing within a few days.” Jessa knew that it would be hard. She would have to keep her rebels sharp and prepared for anything.

Wings of Alira
By: Abbie

Chapter 1

“Come before midnight.” The voice was scratchy as sand rubbed against skin.
“As you wish my lord.” The second voice was as cold as a steel bar in winter.
“We must find her before our chances slip away.” The first voice was not pleased with it’s servant.
“I will.”
“If I trusted you I would have put you somewhere without guards.” The voice was full of hate this time. “You are just a useless slimeball. You have your purposes though.”

Norla woke up with a start. The world was spinning in blurry and looked like it had been clouded by smoke. It was clouded by smoke. Norla’s eyes watered as she peered around her room. Two cots lay side by side. The other cot had a neat gray blanket and a white sheet folded on the end.
“Sorry sis, I burnt something.” It was Jenna. She indeed had burnt something. Norla got out of her cot and went over to where her older sister stood in front of the fire.
“Good morning.” Norla’s voice was scratchy from sleep. “Breakfast?” she asked, nodding at the eggs.
“Yes, if it isn’t burnt to a crisp.” Jenna replied. Her hair was brushed back in perfect dark brown waves with a glossy shine. Compared to Norla’s own mob of tangles, Jenna could be a princess. Oh wait. She was. Jenna, princess of Alira. Meanwhile, Norla got to be the extra princess. Their backup if her precious sister couldn’t do it. Well more if her precious sister died, because Jenna couldn’t fail. Norla tried not to be bitter. Tried. She tried to do everything. Sit perfectly like her sister. Stand as straight as the stone slabs of the castle. It didn’t matter. She was never right. No one had really cared about Norla. Except Jenna. That made it ten times harder to hate her. Or just disagree. Or just anything.
“Norla, Norla? You zoned out again.” Jenna was waving a hand in front of her face.
“Oh sorry sis.” Norla pulled herself out of her thoughts. “Should I make toast?”
“No, we need to save our food.” Her perfect sister was smart too. Unfortunately, her sister was right-if they were stuck in this ridiculous bunker, food would have to last. The bunker was a precaution. Apparently some anonymous source said they were in danger. Again.
Other than being hot, stuffy, and at the same time freezing at night, it was boring. Her perfect sister was boring, the stone walls were boring, the lack of nobles to annoy was boring. About that, the snobby nobles were always commenting on her impoliteness. Which is partially why she quit trying. If people didn’t expect anything but the worst, that's what they saw and got. Norla had long since decided that those nobles needed to be put in their place. She had competed in boy activities, slouched, rolled her eyes, thrown tantrums that were usually fake, and ignored their greetings.
Stuck in a dull stone room was about as fun as well, nothing in Norla’s opinion. She would rather do chores than sit on her bed and glare at the unchanging wall. Besides, they aren’t doing anything to put us in here. No reason at all to keep the two princesses locked up in this bunker.
“Norla!” Norla looked up to see her sister glaring at her. “Get out of your head! It does nothing at all.”
“Why bother?” Norla said. “I do nothing when I’m “out of my head” anyway. Except get in the way. Wouldn’t it be better if I just stayed there?”
“No!” Jenna looked frantic. “You aren’t in the way. I just meant if you are stuck in your head you will miss breakfast.” She smiled at Norla. “And I will be bored into my head.”
She wished Jenna was mean.
After they had eaten breakfast, Jenna cleaned up while Norla knit more. She hated knitting. Mostly because the perfect ladies of court sat there knitting all the time. Also she thought it was boring. Everything was.
By the time evening arrived, Norla was ready to hit something, it was their 3 week in the bunker! The thin, rough sheets were about as warm as a piece of ice. Norla let her thoughts drift. What was ice like? She had never held it before, but had seen it in fancy ladies’ glasses and read it in books. If only she had books now! The dull cave had no entertainment at all. Absolutely nothing.
How much longer? Was Norla’s constant thought. If only she could push that heavy trapdoor open and be free. Oh so free she would be. She shifted uncomfortably on the bed. As usual no bed was comfortable or even not uncomfortable. She tried it all, feathers, fur, silk, everything. But no matter how hard she tried, her wings never fit.
If only she didn’t have those huge feathery white limbs on her back! The nobles wouldn’t make fun of her. She would live a normal life, safe in the castle as perfect as her sister. The other kids wouldn’t taunt her. If only… with that thought Norla drifted off to sleep. If only… little did she know, those wings would save her one day.

Chapter 2
“Norla! Norla, wake up!” Jenna’s voice drifted into her sleep, causing her to shift in her spot on the bed. Why was it so early?
“You need to wake up. Now!” Jenna was nervous. Her voice didn’t sound right.
“Mhmmmm” Norla was slow at waking up. Besides when she did get to sleep she preferred to savor it.
“Norla!” Jenna had shouted in her ear this time.
“Whatttt?” Norla groaned as she opened her eyes to see her sister frantically digging around for some clothes.
“Get up, we need to leave. Now.” Jenna tossed her some clothes. A tunic, stretchy black pants, and boots.
Norla finished getting dressed and began to ask questions. Some part of her brain was still asleep for the last minute. And it had definitely been the curious part.
“What is happening? Where are we going? You never give me a tunic, what is going on?” Norla was suddenly overwhelmed in a stream of what ifs and what is happening.
“One, there is a attack-right above us. Two, we are going out a secret passage. Three, we are going to run and you have to wear something you won’t trip in.” Jenna finished throwing together packs of supplies and gave her a backpack of supplies. “When I open the passage, run as fast as you can down the hallway, got it?”
Norla nodded with wide eyes as a bang rattled the trap door.
Jenna cursed under her breath and pulled one of the bricks in the wall. A loud thump echoed down from the trapdoor. Several shouts and another thud. They had noticed the door and were trying to get it. With a final tug from Jenna, the brick clicked into place. After a nerve racking few seconds, the bricks slid open, revealing a doorway.
“Go!” Jenna called. Suddenly the trap door flew open. “Run! Norla go!” Jenna swallowed and shoved Norla to the doorway. “I will be right there, ok?” Tears were streaming down her face. The people began to fill in. All clad in black and dark clothes. “Norla, promise me you will run. Promise to stay safe.”
Norla nodded, and hugged her sister. Then she ran. She ran like she had never run before. Norla’s boots gripped the floor and released her just as fast.
Boom the entrance of the tunnel was blown to bits-just as Norla turned the corner. She flew to the floor wi Her eyes closed, and everything went black.
Everything was spinning. Her head was fuzzy. Jenna Her sister was back there! She had to find her. She had to be ok. She had to. Ever since she had lost her parents… her sister’s death had haunted her nightmares. Norla was always scared to lose her sister. No matter how much she hated the perfect, favorite person her sister was, she was her only family. And so, no matter the consequences, she was going to find her.
Norla lifted herself off the floor and turned to the other tunnel. The yelling had stopped except for a few solitary shouts. When she looked down the passage she could only see rubble. The tunnel had caved in. And Jenna… there was a shout. And Norla would know that sound anywhere. It was Jenna.
Norla raced down the tunnel, her wings dragged behind her. She skidded to a halt at the caved in part. There had to be some way through it. She scanned the rocks and chunks of concrete. There! A tiny shaft of light came out of one of the holes. Through it she could see two men in all black grabbing Jenna’s arms and pulling her towards the ladder to the trap door.
“You shouldn’t have exploded that. You could have used it as your escape route.” one of the men grumbled at her. “Then we would have gotten to have some fun.
“I did what I had to.” Jenna kept her head high and her face blank as they yanked her over to the trap door.
What am I doing?!? I need to help her. Norla began yanking away the rocks and rubble from the hole. After a minute, a very long minute, Norla had a hole big enough to climb through. She shoved herself out and into the light. The trap door hung open. Norla raced over to it and pulled herself up and through the door. Norla blinked a few times to get used to the sunlight. She nearly turned and ran with what she saw. At least 20 guards were lying dead on the ground.
Norla heard a thunder of hooves and turned to see the men in black clothes riding away with Jenna slumped unconscious on another horse’s back. The horses were incredibly fast and huge. Norla ran after them but within a minute, they were gone.
She collapsed on the ground crying, but inside she had hardened to steel. She would get her sister back, and no one would stop her.
Chapter 3
2 days later
Norla’s legs were aching and her heart was crying, but she hadn’t let that stop her. After 2 days of walking she had reached Clovus. Clovis was a busy bustling city. Full of bright light and joy and laughter. As she passed under the archway that led into the city her eyes popped with the bright colors after so many days in the dark bunker and then some more in the sloppy damp farmlands and moors.

Idea 1

Overview
Humans abandoned our solar system after a nuclear war made Earth impossible to live on. Scientists had found a suitable solar system and transported the humans there using light speed technology. Using planet “bubbles” they enclosed the planets in livable atmospheres and split into 7 branches, each with countries of similar governments and intentions. Citizens were free to choose any planet and could not be held by their government against their will. Laws were put in place as done in countries here and the branches separated. Citizens were fewer because of the nuclear war on Earth. The planets, though not particularly livable by origin, became more so when fusion of atoms created H2o and oxygen. From there the bubble atmospheres contained the necessary atoms and the planets progressed to the point of Earth within a few years. Plants were brought along and with careful waste management and pollution prevention, the planets thrived. Soon there was a lush, artificial world created in the perfect mirage of Earth on every branch’s planet. The branches moved from the space bases where they had stayed and onto the planets. The same physics that applied on Earth were not originally in place, but the planets all had been modified by technology and fit to the human standard as to keep from ruining the delicate human balance. Through the years, the branches became more and more disconnected and eventually they came together to create Aurea. A small planet in the fringes of the system made an amazing city for the people to come together and unite. 12 generations later small law disputes between branches lead displeased groups to believe if all the branches were united they would create something like Aurea. These groups quickly break off of the branches, stealing small spacecraft and uniting near the outer edge of the system. The branches all blamed one another for the disputers turned rebels, but not very impactful ones, and while arguing created a perfect distraction. While everyone was arguing the rebels snuck in, penetrated various security measures and stole more ships, these built to carry many people for long distances. When the branches stopped arguing they realized the missing ships. This created another wave of chaos, but the message was clear. These rebels were serious. Unfortunately, the reason for these crafts was just passed off as bigger and more of an impact. When the chaos had calmed the branches negotiated a meeting with the rebels. The results weren’t promising. The rebels' intentions were to unite the branches under their own leadership. That leadership was not made clear, and the branch representatives immediately denied their outrageous demands. The rebels immediately forced them to leave and took off in the large spacecraft, paving a treacherous trail through the solar system and out into the galaxy. Their destination was far enough to escape radar and they were soon lost to space. The governments blanched and hid the incident from the public. Hasty treaties were made and the branches were at peace. Another 100 years later, people living in Aurea began to vanish from their lives with no explanation. Again, the governments tried to cover it up, worried it would cause more rebels and
