It actually makes no sense why it does this, and it could lead to someone accidentally breaking their project! The whole point of saving as a copy is that it creates a copy and saves the changes there instead of saving the original.

It's possible that someone who doesn't know that save as copy acts this way would make changes before saving and accidentally change the original (i have done this)

You've probably heard of the infamous grey question mark glitch appearing in big projects. This would count as a change, and saving it would certainly break a project.

Support, when you want it to be saved, you can easily just save it before Save as a Copy if you want it saved, and the original might work, the copy might be an experiment, so if you don’t realize it, and click save as copy, you’re outta luck.

actually, how about a “Don't save project” checkbox? thatd make it easier for the ST to make it automatically save but making it togglable, bc im pretty sure its kinda hard to automatically tick a checkbox

Projects autosave regularly anyway- it's more likely your modifications will overwrite the original project when it autosaves than when you choose to make a copy.

Support - I haven't seen any other program where “Save as (…)” overwrites the original.

Also, with the recent bugs where some of them are fixed by saving and some of them cause data loss when saving, this would be useful

me too and then I made a similar topic in Bugs and Glitches (a few years ago)

If it also saves to the original, it should be called something like "Save and Copy" instead, to give a hint that it overwrites the original
