My browser / operating system: Windows NT 10.0, Chrome 131.0.0.0, No Flash version detected

In the project editor, there is this File > Save as a copy button in the menu.
I think the text on the button says that the project will only save in the copy, and it leaves the original unchanged.
However when I edit one of my projects and click the button, while it makes a copy with the new contents, it also overwrites the original project

This is the way Scratch has always worked. It saves the original project before making a copy.
Scratch also has autosaves while editing.

The solution is to make a copy of the original, then edit the copy.

I know “Save As” does not normally update the original file in other programs but it does in Scratch.

I just thought “Save as a copy” means this

Is this a duplicate of Suggestions » Save as Copy should not save the original before making the copy.?
