I'm Sushi! I go by she/her pronouns, and am the most devilish angel you'll ever meet. I love both reading and writing, and enjoy playing a multitude of games too. Name a fandom, and I've heard of it, or am part of it. Personally, I enjoy writing humorous stories, usually mixed with fantasy or sci-fi elements. I also dabble in poetry, but usually end up just writing tragic poems full of deep angst. It’s the second time I’ve been in a writing camp, the first being SWC, and I’m leading for the first time! I hope to do a good job leading this session, but I’ll definitely need help from those around me. On that note, have a good day to whoever’s reading this, and happy writing! I would’ve written more, but I have limited time in my day. Bye!

When I looked at the prompt for today’s main cabin daily, the first thoughts I had were, “What do I think the new year is going to be like? Terrible as stuff.” And…I’m not exactly wrong, but at the same time, there are still things to look forward to that can at least lift our spirits. The new Covid variant has been sweeping the world and increasing death rates, which is absolutely heartbreaking to see as slowly, more family members get affected by it. At the same time, however, the world is becoming more aware of vaccines, and people of almost all ages can get boosted. It’s easy to focus on the negatives, like us being in quarantine, and people refusing to take the shots. I would know, as I’ve found myself consumed by pessimistic thoughts many times before. I also can’t say if things are going to get better or not. But it’s important not to lose hope and to keep our spirits high. As long as scientists are still cranking out medicine and people try to keep as safe as they can, then maybe we can pull through this. I mean, this pandemic’s been raging on for more than two years now, and it’s become nearly normal at this point to wear masks. Who says we can’t keep it up for a little longer? I mean, this can’t last forever. We’ve made so much progress as a civilization and worked around most of our problems. Studios have continued to produce killer movies and series(looking at you, Marvel), and people have still been able to publish books and release games. In a way, society hasn’t changed at all. We’ve just continued to do what we do best in a different way: make cool stuff. And making cool stuff will save our happiness, and in turn, our world.

Adding onto this, for New Year's Eve, my family and I did really low-key stuff. I found that, over quarantine, lots of holidays and special occasions were made low-key and somewhat insignificant. We finished off the finale of a show on Disney+ and watched a countdown special. We didn't watch the countdown for that long, however, so I don't think we really got into the real spirit of it. It is what is, though. Family bonding happened nonetheless!

2021. 2021, probably the year just like 2020. But, at least we can say it wasn't as crazy. I thought the year was good. It was amazing to have my life almost back to normal. The year was full with ups and downs, just like last year. But, now, we have to say goodbye. I miss it already, and have hesitated to welcome 2022. I believe 2022 will be the best year since the outbreak. 2022 will be more relaxed than ever. Boy, am I glad that a new year has come. A year where I can change my habits, and become a better person. School is still a burden, but I will overcome it. But, there is one burden that lays heavy on my shoulders. That we are moving. That's a reason I didn't want to leave 2021. But at least that is just like my moms saying, new year, fresh start! Well, thats all for now. See ya!

Time travel was all fun and games… Until… Well until Anne got stuck that is. Let’s back up a little and I’ll explain… Well… I’ll try to explain.
So, I know that it’s probably hard to believe that me and my friends could time travel at all. Right? You probably think I’m crazy! But I swear to you, on my life, that we really did figure out time travel! Still don’t believe me? Seriously? I’m sighing over here… Just in case you can’t tell. Okay. Fine. I’ll tell you just how we figured out time travel! Then will you believe me and help get Anne back to the present!?!?!!! Okay! THANK YOU!
So, this all started when me and my friends found this weird abandoned looking lab thing at the edge of town. We thought it would be fun to explore it, you know because creepy abandoned science lab just screams friendly fun! Anyways, when we got to the building we found that it was totally surrounded by a huge brick wall. It wasn’t too hard to climb, my friend Jamie was able to scale the wall and then she helped pull the rest of us up and over.
Okay… was this now officially breaking and entering? Probably… Did we care? Not really. We didn’t really think anyone would throw us in jail just for being curious! But boy! What happened at the end of all this took everyone by surprise!
Once we were over the wall, we looked around the outside of the building to see if we could figure out what it had been used for when it was still in operation. We didn’t find any company names that we recognized. In fact, the only symbol on the entire building (Which was pretty big by the way, at least a couple of acres) was a faded looking American flag on the front wall by the door.
Okay, sure. Maybe at this point we should have realized that this place was a little sus, you know… No clear cut sponsors for a huge lab… Abandoned… No security features whatsoever. But… our curiosity got the better of us, so we continued inside!
At first, me and my friends were all arguing over how to get inside using one of the windows, or the ventilation system, or the roof. But when we couldn’t figure anything out that seemed logical, I went and tried to push open the door. Surprisingly, it was open!
“Hey guys!” I called over to my friends-
Yeah, sorry for interrupting here! Just realized I should probably introduce all my friends so you know who’s on this adventure with me. There’s me, obviously, my name is Kaitlyn, I’m sixteen. Then there’s Anne, who’s fifteen. Jamie, she’s sixteen too. There’s Carrie, she’s twelve. And finally there’s Regina, she’s fourteen years old. Jamie’s the strong one, Carrie’s the smart one, Anne’s the adventurous one. Regina’s the one who has common sense (most of the time) and I’m the one who keeps us all in check! Okay, I think that’s everything you should know about the gang! Now, back to the story!
“Guys!” I screamed again, my friends stopped arguing and looked over to me “The door’s open!”
“Oh… Guess we should have tried that first.” Regina muttered.
“Yeah, not everything needs to be so complicated. Let’s just go and see what’s inside!” My friends came over to the front door and the five of us walked inside. We were a little shocked. The inside was a pristine white, like… Hospital grade clean. It did not look as old as the outside of the building…
“Why is it so clean?” Jamie asked, opening one of the doors to expose what looked like a doctors office. “I thought this place was abandoned… It looks like the inside was redone.”
“Exactly what I was thinking.” Carrie said, opening the door opposite of Jamie and finding… a kitchen?
“What the heck is this place?” I muttered
“I have no idea…” Regina answered, looking through a door a couple feet down the corridor “But I think you guys should come and see this.” The rest of us walked over to the door Regina had opened, and we walked inside to see what she’d found. When we did, we saw something confusing. It was a.. Portal looking thingy. It was a metal circle that was standing up on a platform that was bolted to the ground. There was a panel in front of the circle with a bunch of levers and buttons and stuff like that.
“What… Is it?” Carrie asked, walking up to the panel thingy.
“I dunno…” Anne said “But whatever it is, I think we should turn it on!”
“No!” I exclaimed “What if it’s something dangerous? What are you going to do then!”
“But what if it’s something super cool!” Anne argued “We need to try it out!!”
“Fine. We can turn it on to see what happens. Then we immediately turn it back off. Deal?” I asked. It seemed like a fair compromise at the time… But I was wrong.
“Yeeeeesssss!” Anne pumped her fist in their air in excitement as she searched the panel for an “on” button. She finally found it and slammed her hand down on it.
Okay, yes I know it was stupid of us to turn on the machine. Yes we probably should have taken into account that this place was probably abandoned for a reason and that this machine might be the reason there are no people in this place. But we didn’t. So what? Sue me.
Once Anne pressed the button, there was a soft humming and soon the room was filled with a blinding purple light. When I opened my eyes, the machine was filled with a purple light. It kind of looked like one of those Minecraft portals that you can build.
“That is awesome!!” Anne exclaimed “I want to touch it!” She went up to the machine and before I could stop her, she reached her hand out and touched it. Then it looked like her hand was getting pulled deeper into the portal…. But she wasn’t coming out the other side!
“Anne?” Jamie exclaimed “Anne! Move away from that thing!”
“I.. I can’t!” Anne screamed “Turn it off!!! Turn it off!!!!” I ran to the control panel and frantically started pressing buttons and pulling levers to no avail. Before I could do anything, Anne’s voice cut off. I looked up. She was gone. Then, the light went out.
Okay, so I know that you probably don’t think that Anne is really in “Time” you’re probably like “Oh Anne could be anywhere, that wasn’t time travel per say. Where’s your proof?” Well, I was just getting there. So, here is my proof.
Just as the light turned off, Regina and Carrie came running into the room, Carrie was holding a small tablet that was glowing. Me and Jamie didn’t say anything. We weren’t quite sure what to say.
“Guys!” Carrie exclaimed “Don’t touch anything! That’s a time travel machine!”
“A WHAT!?” Me and Jamie exclaimed simultaneously.
“A time travel machine!” Regina exclaimed “Wait… Where’s Anne?”
“Well… She turned the machine on… And then…”
“Let me guess…” Carrie muttered “She touched the purple light and then she got sucked into the machine. And there was nothing either of you could do?”
“Well… yeah!” I exclaimed “Wait… How’s you know that?”
“It’s the exact scenario described in this research book on this tablet!” Carrie exclaimed “We learned more about this place!” Regina said
“Apparently, it’s an old government facility where they were trying to figure out the secret behind time travel. And they did. But it went horribly wrong. The scientist who went inside, never came out. She was lost in time. And they never found her.”
“Wait! So does… Does that mean that… That Anne is… Lost in time?” I asked nervously
“Well… Yes. I think it does.” Carrie muttered
So there! That’s my story! So now you know that Anne is lost in time! So you’ll help us right!? I mean, you're the government! You have to- wait… what do you mean that you can’t do anything… What do you mean I know too much! My memory? No! No you can’t erase my memory! What about Anne! Are you just going to leave her lost in time!? Wh-

The villain in my dystopian setting is obviously the government, since it’s a dystopian theme and the government is a dictatorship. The current president of the country is named Celeste Green. She has been in office for about fifteen years and she is forty seven, she came into office when she was thirty two after her predecessor (Marcus Black) died of old age. She continued President Blacks rules that he enacted during his fifty years of presidency. These rules included that books were illegal. Because books gave people ideas, and ideas are dangerous because then people won’t be happy with the life they have. Regardless of the fact that their society is a utopia from the death and destruction that lay outside the city limits.
The children of the country go to “School” and learn basic reading, so they can read propaganda and get a job when they are older. They learn basic math to keep track of their family funding. And they learn just enough science to understand the world around them. The rest of their schooling is about the country and how it came to be. The schools make the children obedient members of society by feeding them propaganda, lies and twisted views from a very young age.

The autumn crisp air blew on the boardwalk. Jane started peddling her bike down the boardwalk to the local science museum, she locked up her bike and headed in for the annual TTKGA meeting. But this wasn’t 2022 this was 1980! She headed into the back of the museum and sat a table with the other kids “Jane! I told you not to be late to today’s meeting, we’ll need the whole group for this mission” said Jasmine the leader. “Where going to 2022 we don’t know what we’ll find!”, “I get it Jasmine, we all can’t be late to the meetings otherwise well we don’t know what will happen really…” the sound of the crushing of a juice box filled the room. “Samantha! Your gonna ruin the library books this can take us anywhere in the world” said Selena “I told you Selena! It’s Sam not Samantha it’s to girly” said Sam aiming her juice box for the garbage can. “Okay come on let’s go to the time machine before the museum closes!” Said jasmine pushing her chair away from the table. The four girls filled into the back of the museum, Selena pulled the chain to turn on the lights “okay everyone let’s go to 2022!” they all took a seat in the time machine “2022 here we come!” They all chanted. A burst of light flooded from the sides of the door and under the door “WAHOOO!” yelled Sam as the raced threw the space time continuum. They landed in the water “what- but the museum it’s always been here! At least anywhere after 1920” Jasmine said puzzled “Maybe they just removed it” Jane said. “Who cares it’s lame anyways” Sam said kicking a can that was on the board walk “let’s go explore!” they started heading into the downtown section of Chicago “woah!” Jane said “It’s so cool!” Jasmine said they spent hours wandering around trying new foods, looking at all the cool clothes “it’s almost closing time we should head back…” Selena said fiddling her fingers something could always go wrong time traveling she didn’t like doing it but her friends didn’t and she still wanted to be friends with them and look cool. They started walking back to the boardwalk and hopped back into the time machine. “Okay guys that was so fun!” They all started talking about what they loved the most “wait…. Selena’s not here!!!” Sam said “my sister…. She’s gone” Jane gazed out the window crying. She may have not shown she loved her sister but she always did…. Selena was still on the boardwalk in 2022 she dug her hands into her pockets “Selena Thompson… Time traveler from the 80’s” Selena mumbled, she snorted “I could live with that” she ran off into downtown Chicago. Where is Selena now? We may never know…

Daily #2: 473 words
Travelling through time was all fun and games until…one of us got stuck. Half of us didn't care anyway, since it was Harriet, and no one knew her that well. She was the mysterious sort. The sort that will give that smile when you go too far with questions, and simply says ‘You’ll see,' for almost everything. So, our team didn't really care for that. What really bothered us was the fact that one of our smartest workers had gone, and now we were just fiddling with levers, which we had no clue if it could kill us or not. Pleasant. “Uh, guys?” someone - I don't know who - questioned, “Is the machine meant to be shaking like this?”. That's when everyone panics and we get sent off to different times and different places. Another way to spend our amazing, delightful, full-of-joy day. It couldn't get any worse, I reassured myself. How wrong I was. This was only the stepping stones to immense danger.
Looking back now, I probably got the worse place and time. I mean, I got cast into emptiness, a void full of draught, full of death. I couldn't spot a single speckle of life. That meant I was probably going to die in… 5 minutes. Great. Just great. Can't wait to go and evaporate into dust. I look down at my watch. 13:00:13. Team C are probably on their way to the final challenge, Team E are probably done already, Team A will be on the 3rd challenge, and us, well, we're going to lose. There's something worse than the hang-your-head-down-low after loosing. In this world, there is no pity. In this world, you sacrifice yourself. No, not yourself. Your soul. Your happiness. And you become an empty robot. You get hanged. You get taunted. You get tortured. Yeah, you pretty much become a heartless robot. Quivering, I get to my feet. I intake the polluted air. And then, tearing my watch off, I run to the nearest cliff and jump. Darkness envelopes me.
My eyes flutter open. I'm drowning. My hand curls around the water, desperate. It can't be. Bubbles twirl around me. You could think of the ocean as beautiful, picturesque even. I don't know what to say. Let's just think about it this way. I'm in the future. I'm in a plastic-filled, abandoned sea. Life? Unlikely. There were traces of sea-animals, like a dead turtle here and there. But that was it. I fall. Too late now. There's no hand to reach out and help me. I silently chuckle. When I signed up for this, I never thought life will slip from my hands this easily. But it did, didn't it? I let the dark angel snatch away the remains of my flesh. This is the end.

Daily #2, did a bit of research, Star Trek: Discovery's Season 2 finale is confusing me, Einstein and Matt Parker are confusing me, Tachyons. Don't make Milky write sci-fi else her “science nerd” mind turns on. Lots of weird science stuff happens here. “Fourth dimension” and “time” are synonymus, most of the time here. 401 Words
We should never have messed with time.
Those were the words that came speeding to the front of her mind.
I should have known the temporal displacement wormhole would collapse. There weren't enough tachyons being emitted.
As she thought those words, the last few moments before the wormhole was opened came back to her.
Then, the wormhole collapsing inwards.
The sheer amount of temporal displacement must have destabilised it.
And then, it came snapping back to her. Her memories. Her personality. Everything.
Except her sense of time.
Time was at a standstill.
Nothing could escape the standstill.
The blackness.
Darkness.
No stars.
No up, or down. No direction.
Am I trapped in the fourth dimension?
She felt like that was the most likely option. But then, the fourth dimension would have a fourth direction, wouldn't-
Time.
That single word snapped into her mind.
Up and down. Left and right. Near and far. Past and Future. Time. Time is the fourth direction.
She could rewind time and pull on her younger self, but there was no way to do that. Not with her time pod. It didn't emit tachyons, and most definitely couldn't make a wormhole. That was, until she found something.
A tachyon, loosing energy, but going faster.
Time was at a standstill. But the tachyons acted like time had no effect on them. They were part of the fourth dimension! If she could harness the poer of these tachyons; if enough come swirling by, she could speed them up and go back to where she should be.
She would escape the fourth dimension. There was hope after all.
Floating there, she waited, until enough tachyons were coming at a constant enough rate, that was flowing ever faster but loosing energy at the same time. Powering up her thrusters, she maunvered into the tachyon river, and she used her speed to give the tachyons a boost of kinetic energy, and faster and faster they went, enclosing her in a sealed bubble of space, bursting back into the third dimension.
She let out a sigh of relief. She came out where she had started.
Exact time she entered.
Exact place she entered.
Tuesday 3rd April. 2372.
Just outside the heliopause.
Interstellar space.
Looking around, she hears a voice through her speakers.
“Isla, welcome home. We missed you.”
By the voice - one of her friends.
She smiled, and replied.
“I'm just so glad to be back. See you soon.”

Star Cabin In Cabin Daily #1
If mystery were a person, I think they'd be introverted and sneaky. They'd commit crimes but also play detective. Mystery would also be really smart, and have syntheia (this is a tribute to TBBT, yes, Sheldon has syntheia), as that helps them as they'd notice different senses as they read or looked at something. As well as this, Mystery can handle a lot of change and takes change really well as the genre can change direction very quickly.
As for their appearance, Mystery would have slightly tanned light skin, brown eyes and long brown hair. They'd wear blue, black, white, grey and red clothes. Blue to symbolise police and detective, black to represent crimes, grey to represent the blurred lines that may arise, white for the truth and red to represent blood. Their long hair is to represent the cover-up operation that takes place after a murder. Mystery would also cary around a briefcase and wear glasses, to represent the sterotypical investagtor.

Travelling through time was all fun and games until somebody got stuck. I honestly wish I was kidding, but I'm keeping this record for the next lot of Fixers, so I've got to tell the whole story. However much it might hurt. If it stops even one future Fixer from making the mistakes Cami did, I don't care how hard it is for me to write.
We were doing a routine operation. It was fine, it was going great. We'd done the actual mission, something about Fixing which gladiator won a battle because one of them was going to go on to do something cosmically significant. And then we were just hanging around Ancient Rome. Exploring like we always did. Fixers technically aren't supposed to travel for recreation, but the way we spun it, we just so happened to have some extra time on our hands, so why not spend it in the past?
The one rule neither of us ever broke was the one rule that got drilled into our heads for years before we were allowed to ever go on a real mission. Don't eat anything.
It seemed like a totally arbitrary rule, and that's the Academy's fault, not mine or Cami's. If it was so important, they should have told us why. I hope this bit of my record goes unnoticed, so whoever's next after me can see it. I blame the Academy for what happened to Cami.
We had always assumed that anybody who broke that rule just got expelled and sent home, not being allowed to say goodbye to anybody. Turns out we were wrong. We were all so wrong.
I'd always wanted to find out why we weren't allowed to eat stuff in the past, and Cami felt the same way. We were teenagers - late teenagers: I was eighteen and Cami was nineteen - but still, barely adults.
So there we were, wandering around Rome, circa 600 BCE, and we had maybe an hour before the Academy sent a senior Fixer for us. We were walking through a marketplace, and I'm sure you can guess what happened next.
Cami was so curious, always had been. I am too, but not as much. It was Cami's idea to go up to a fruit stall and buy a pomegranate.
And that's how Cami got stuck in the past. I don't know why eating traps you, but I swear that I'll find out. I'm going to stay in the Academy. I'm going to train until I'm a senior Fixer. Then I'll get to know all the secrets of time travel.
I swear one day I'll rescue Cami.

Zack sat up, holding his head. Where was he? And why was the world spinning? Usually the ride was much smoother than that. Eventually his vision cleared and what he saw frightened him.
Kimberly walked into her garage. “Zack?” Where was he? He better not have gone to soccer practice without her. She scanned the room, looking for the tall, gangly, redheaded boy she'd know since kindergarten. Her eyes narrowed when she saw the time machine in the corner.
“Ahh!” Zack pulled his knees up to his chest and covered his head. When nothing happened, he slowly lifted his head. The guns were still there. Still very much pointed at him.
It was on, she knew she turned it off last night. She approached it and stared down at the panel. It read 6080. Oh no. She'd been on many adventures through time with Zack, but never to the future. Kimberly didn't even know if the machine was programed to go to the future. Who knows what was happening in there.
Zack stood up straight, shoulders back, head up. He was determined to not be intimidated by the guards. Or their big guns. Or their impossibly strong grip on his arms. They led him through clean, white corridors, only stopping at thick, white doors to scan what looked like ID cards. Finally they reached a large, plain room with a single window. The room was white of course. Was everything here white? There was a tall, wingback black chair in the center of the room. Behind a large, matching desk. “Welcome.” The single word sent chills down Zack's back. The chair slowly started to turn towards him.
Kimberly started pushing the buttons to get the time machine to stop. She even tried the emergency stop, but nothing worked. Finally, she pulled out her cell from her back pocket and frantically dialed Ashley, her other best friend. Ashley was a whiz with anything electronic. Kimberly figured that if anyone could help, Ashley could. When Ashley heard what had happened, she freaked out. “I'll be right over.”
Zack stared at the woman in the chair. She had narrow eyes, highlighted by black eyeliner and eyeshadow. Her lips where blood red, and matched the red streak in her otherwise pitch black hair. Her fingers where steepled in front of her, her long red nails clicking together. She didn't look happy. Zack swallowed hard, something told him he was in trouble.
TW: Guns

Woosh There shouldn’t be wind in a void, should there? No, it was empty. Nothing should be there. But there was still wind. Then she realized something else- she had stopped moving.
July’s forward motion had been so fast she hadn’t been able to feel it. But now everything was frozen. She tried to move her hand. It was stuck. Well at least I can think, July thought dryly. Life just wasn’t the same if she was stuck. Wait wouldn’t she suffocate? No she hadn’t suffocated before.
What about her friends? Blake, Robin, and Star were nowhere to be seen. That worried July the most. If her friends went on, why was she stuck? Being stuck somewhere between Ancient Rome and 2021 was scary.
There are worse places to die for sure. The blackness was dotted with small glowing dots. Gold, blue, aquamarine, purple, yellow, orange, and red. Every color July had ever seen and more. She couldn’t turn her head, but something let her see behind her. It was like she had a sphere of vision she could see in. But if she tried to look two ways at once her head hurt so much. She could only focus on the front half or the back. Weird, July thought.
Behind her was a gaping tear in the perfection. What was wrong with it? THe tear was confusing. It shouldn’t be there. Like a computer screen where there is a scratched part. Where the light bends.
Wait. July was moving. No one direction but everywhere, slipping in and out of the forward and sideways streams. July realized with a start, she wasn’t getting out. But her life, her friends! It wasn’t that bad she thought again. She would just grow old and die here.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
2 years later
July had come to terms with her live forever-stuck-in-space deal. It wasn’t so bad. Over the past 2 years she had made “friends” with the void. It took her all over to peer into the little stars of time. At this particular time, July asked to go and see the present. Or well 1 minute ago. She loved watching the new world. Flying cars, VR systems that were so realistic you could feel them, and so much more.
July peered into the circle and saw something surprising! Blake and Robin were there! Blake was yelling at Robin about something, and Robin yelled back. Star put her hands up to try to stop them. July turned away from the scene. Her life there was over-she needed to be living in the void. “Set me free.” She said to her friend, and like she always had, was freed.
This is for Star.
GO STAR!
WORD WAR WITH @STRAWBERRY-LEMONAQE FROM SNOOZE CABIN
I was home alone. My parents were out on a date and I was watching a movie to pass the time. Suddenly, I heard the doorbell ring and I groaned as I got up from my comfortable spot on the couch, pausing my movie as I went to answer the door. I opened it and, seeing nobody, looked around to see if there was some kind of package. When I did I saw a large, round looking thing sitting in front of my door, it was covered by a sheet and there were weird noises coming from it.
That’s… Weird I thought. I grabbed my phone a took a picture, texting it to my mom with the caption
“Hey mom, this just showed up in the doorway. Were you expecting anything?” She responded with
“No honey. Your dad said he wasn’t either. Maybe it’s a gift from a friend?” I considered that before responded
“I guess it could be. Can I take it inside and open it?” It took my mom a while to respond, but after a few minutes she texted me back and said
“Sure! Have fun!” So I brought the thing inside and took the sheet off that was covering it. I screamed when I did. It was a bird! It was a living. Breathing bird!
“WHAT THE HECK!” I screamed. I immediately grabbed my phone and texted my mom a picture of the bird.
“MOM!” I texted her “WHY IS THERE A BIRD IN THE CAGE!”
“Oh!! Now I remember who said they were sending over a gift! Your aunt Mabel sent you that for your birthday!
“AND YOU JUST THOUGHT TO TELL ME THIS NOW!?” I responded. Then I threw down my phone trying to figure out what to do with my new pet. I didn’t want a bird!
“Do I have to keep it?” I asked my mom
“YES!” She texted back “Your aunt spent good money to get you that bird. Yes you have to keep it.”
“But I don’t want it! Can’t we sell it for some money?”
“NO! We’re keeping the bird and that’s final! Do you understand me young lady.”
“Yes mom.” After that, I grabbed the bird cage and took it to my room.
Well, I guess it might be kinda cool to have a bird I thought
“Hey birdy!” I said, “Can you talk? Huh? Are you a parrot?” The bird just sat there, looking at me like I was stupid. Great. So I had a bird that I didn’t even want, and it didn’t even talk or do anything cool. Great. Just great. So for the rest of the night, I sat there and brainstormed ways to get my mother to hate this bird so that we could get rid of it… Maybe if it pooped on all of her furniture she would be less inclined to keep it. Or better yet… If it pooped on her?
I was home alone. My parents were out on a date and I was watching a movie to pass the time. Suddenly, I heard the doorbell ring and I groaned as I got up from my comfortable spot on the couch, pausing my movie as I went to answer the door. I opened it and, seeing nobody, looked around to see if there was some kind of package. When I did I saw a large, round looking thing sitting in front of my door, it was covered by a sheet and there were weird noises coming from it.
That’s… Weird I thought. I grabbed my phone a took a picture, texting it to my mom with the caption
“Hey mom, this just showed up in the doorway. Were you expecting anything?” She responded with
“No honey. Your dad said he wasn’t either. Maybe it’s a gift from a friend?” I considered that before responded
“I guess it could be. Can I take it inside and open it?” It took my mom a while to respond, but after a few minutes she texted me back and said
“Sure! Have fun!” So I brought the thing inside and took the sheet off that was covering it. I screamed when I did. It was a bird! It was a living. Breathing bird!
“WHAT THE HECK!” I screamed. I immediately grabbed my phone and texted my mom a picture of the bird.
“MOM!” I texted her “WHY IS THERE A BIRD IN THE CAGE!”
“Oh!! Now I remember who said they were sending over a gift! Your aunt Mabel sent you that for your birthday!
“AND YOU JUST THOUGHT TO TELL ME THIS NOW!?” I responded. Then I threw down my phone trying to figure out what to do with my new pet. I didn’t want a bird!
“Do I have to keep it?” I asked my mom
“YES!” She texted back “Your aunt spent good money to get you that bird. Yes you have to keep it.”
“But I don’t want it! Can’t we sell it for some money?”
“NO! We’re keeping the bird and that’s final! Do you understand me young lady.”
“Yes mom.” After that, I grabbed the bird cage and took it to my room.
Well, I guess it might be kinda cool to have a bird I thought
“Hey birdy!” I said, “Can you talk? Huh? Are you a parrot?” The bird just sat there, looking at me like I was stupid. Great. So I had a bird that I didn’t even want, and it didn’t even talk or do anything cool. Great. Just great. So for the rest of the night, I sat there and brainstormed ways to get my mother to hate this bird so that we could get rid of it… Maybe if it pooped on all of her furniture she would be less inclined to keep it. Or better yet… If it pooped on her?
Woosh There shouldn’t be wind in a void, should there? No, it was empty. Nothing should be there. But there was still wind. Then she realized something else- she had stopped moving.
July’s forward motion had been so fast she hadn’t been able to feel it. But now everything was frozen. She tried to move her hand. It was stuck. Well at least I can think, July thought dryly. Life just wasn’t the same if she was stuck. Wait wouldn’t she suffocate? No she hadn’t suffocated before.
What about her friends? Blake, Robin, and Star were nowhere to be seen. That worried July the most. If her friends went on, why was she stuck? Being stuck somewhere between Ancient Rome and 2021 was scary.
There are worse places to die for sure. The blackness was dotted with small glowing dots. Gold, blue, aquamarine, purple, yellow, orange, and red. Every color July had ever seen and more. She couldn’t turn her head, but something let her see behind her. It was like she had a sphere of vision she could see in. But if she tried to look two ways at once her head hurt so much. She could only focus on the front half or the back. Weird, July thought.
Behind her was a gaping tear in the perfection. What was wrong with it? THe tear was confusing. It shouldn’t be there. Like a computer screen where there is a scratched part. Where the light bends.
Wait. July was moving. No one direction but everywhere, slipping in and out of the forward and sideways streams. July realized with a start, she wasn’t getting out. But her life, her friends! It wasn’t that bad she thought again. She would just grow old and die here.
2 years later
July had come to terms with her live forever-stuck-in-space deal. It wasn’t so bad. Over the past 2 years she had made “friends” with the void. It took her all over to peer into the little stars of time. At this particular time, July asked to go and see the present. Or well 1 minute ago. She loved watching the new world. Flying cars, VR systems that were so realistic you could feel them, and so much more.
July peered into the circle and saw something surprising! Blake and Robin were there! Blake was yelling at Robin about something, and Robin yelled back. Star put her hands up to try to stop them. July turned away from the scene. Her life there was over-she needed to be living in the void. “Set me free.” She said to her friend, and like she always had, was freed.
THIS IS FOR STAR.
JWC Daily - Main Cabin, January 2nd.
It was a mistake.
We didn’t mean to.
We were just a few foolish kids who stumbled across a time machine while playing in the park.
It doesn’t sound normal, I know, but that’s exactly what happened.
And because of our foolishness, and that time machine, we lost our best friend.
Let me start from the beginning.
Our friend group had always been the four of us: Anaya, Jayden, Ilya, and I. Usually we hung out in a park close enough to each of our homes so that we could meet up there every day. Except this day had felt different from the very moment we got to the park.
“Hey, Mindy, what’s on your mind?”
That was the first question Ilya asked me.
I had been particularly quiet that day. It was almost as if I knew what was going to happen before it happened.
I had only shaken my head carelessly at the statement. “No, it’s nothing. Probably just my mind recovering from the math quiz today.”
That elicited a groan from all the others, even though Anaya and Jayden weren’t even in the same class and Ilya and I.
“Another one?!” Anaya exclaimed, swinging her legs over the swings and pushing off. “Didn’t you have one just last Friday or something?”
“Yup,” Ilya confirmed, voice dripping with sarcasm. “But apparently, we were so incredibly behind last year, that our Pre-Algebra teacher had to speed up our unit learning by double!”
“At least it’s over now,” I rolled my eyes as we stepped away from the swings and closer toward the forest.
That forest had been there for years. Our neighborhood had been built on the very edge of it, the park being a sort of barrier between humankind and nature. Only once had we gone in, and that was five feet in to retrieve a lost basketball. Our parents had warned us never to go in, for wild animals and dangerous plants were hidden inside, waiting to ruin your life.
For some reason, Jayden suggested we go in. I don’t remember the exact reason they brought it up, other than a simple curiosity. None of us seemed particularly against it, and had all spent years staring into its depths. Anaya and I had enough knowledge of what plants to avoid, since we were in Girl Scouts together, so we were fine on those ends. Ilya promised to tackle any creature she came across, so we ventured in without hesitation.
It wasn’t necessarily dark, but it felt like I could barely see anything in front of me. Maybe that was because I wasn’t wearing my glasses that day, though. Either way, the others seemed particularly spooked by the place too, and we huddled close as we traveled.
Then, out of the blue, we all noticed a flash of purple light.
In silent agreement, we went towards it, pushing away foliage and weeds to reveal a hoop of some sort. Like those hula hoops you would play with back in P.E. class.
Before we knew it, we were playing around with it, and when Ilya began to spin it around her hips, the ground beneath her started to glow and transform into a sort of portal. Startled, she dropped the hoop. The portal closed.
When we experimented more with it, we found that we could travel to different times.
Soon enough, we were out of control, journeying to various other times: 1950, 2030, 1567, and more that we couldn’t decipher. It was fascinating and exciting, something we’d never seen before.
I could never describe what kind of things we saw. Neither could the others. I suppose you just had to be there to know it.
Eventually, we started to split up and explore. That was when things started to go downhill, though.
The four of us had gone our separate ways to explore Athens(it was either that or Rome, according to Jayden), and Ilya had taken the hoop with her.
I ended up going around with Anaya to check out the shops, and we were promptly joined by Ilya. She bounded over, throwing the hoop up and catching it as she stepped, but it seemed that the turning of the hoop activated the portal.
We had gotten too careless.
She tripped on her own feet as the portal opened up below her feet, and the hoops fell out of her hands. Various people gasped at the sight as she fell and grasped Anaya’s arm.
I don’t remember what she said at that moment. Everything seemed too much of a blur.
It probably wouldn’t have happened if we were just the slightest bit more careful.
But the whiplash hit us too hard, and the event happened too fast.
To sum it up, she fell through and was lost to time.
Jayden, who hadn’t been there to see it happen or even see her for the last time, hooped endlessly through time looking for her. They never found her.
So, to anyone who’s found this hoop and thinking about using it, don’t.
I left the note here for a reason.
This thing was designed to distract you and make you slip up. I don’t know where it came from, or who made it, but what I do know is that it could cost you.
It’s just too risky.
That was something we should’ve known when we picked up that hoop.
MAIN CABIN WEEKLY #1
HUFF CABIN
Week One (Jan. 2nd - 9th)
PART ONE, this is my fanfiction character named Piper Kelly, she’s twelve in this story (Her brother is fifteen). She’s from the Newsies fandom:
I hate thunderstorms. It’s not just the storms themselves that I hate, it’s also the memories that come along with them. If I happen to fall asleep before the storm starts, the memories resurface in my nightmares. If I don’t, the memories haunt me while I’m awake and they make it difficult to do anything; I’m too busy trying to force myself not to dwell on the memories for too long. I tried my best not to let the boys see how much the storms scared me, and I had succeeded in that effort ever since I had gotten to the lodge. That is, until now.
It was a cold spring evening in 1898. It was a little bit after eleven o’clock and me and the rest of the boys in the lodge had just gotten into bed. There had been a lot of clouds so Jack and Crutchie were downstairs instead of on the roof like normal.
I was just starting to fall asleep when I heard the rain start against the window by my bed. I bit her lip nervously, silently praying that it would just be a normal rainy night. I can sleep through those. I wasn’t so lucky though; soon after, I heard the first clap of thunder and saw the first flash of lightning.
I gasped and pulled my blanket tighter around myself, as though that could stop the storm. I took a deep breath and closed my eyes to try and calm myself. That was a mistake as almost instantly I began to see images from my stay in the Refuge. I let out a small whimper and my eyes shot open and there was another clap of thunder, louder this time. Tears began to stream down my cheeks and try as I may I couldn’t stop them. I tried my best to be quiet, I didn’t want to wake up any of the boys.
I clenched my fists as the thunder sounded once again. As it did, I slowly sat up, being as quiet as I could. I wrapped my arms around myself and my breathing began to quicken. My tears continued as I unwillingly remembered everything Snyder had put me through while I was at the Refuge. After another couple of moments, I heard a soft voice from my right.
“Hey, Piper, whatsa mattah?” I flinched and whipped my head to the side. In the dim light that the moon offered, I could see Jack crouched beside my bed, looking worried.
I didn’t answer him. I couldn’t… “C’mon, what’s wrong?” Jack asked again. I still didn’t answer, I could only squeeze my eyes closed and flinch after another crash of thunder and flash of lightning. That was all it took for my brother to understand. “Oh, Pipes.” That was all he said before he sat on the edge of the bed and pulled me into his arms. I leaned against him as he began to gently rub up and down my back and whisper softly in my ear, trying to calm me down. “Shh… you’re alright. It’s okay… It’s just a storm Pipes.”
“I… I k-know it i-is.” I whispered back, still trembling, “I j-just hate ‘em.”
“Yeah. Yeah, I know. I know.” Jack murmured softly, “It’ll be okay. Ya gonna be okay.” I flinched again as the thunder sounded once more, and Jack began to comfort me again. After a minute or so, he gathered the thin blanket tighter around us and wrapped his arms tightly around me. I leaned my head on my brother's shoulder and tried to focus on what he was saying, instead of the storm that raged outside.
The two of us stayed that way for about another hour until the storm had passed. Normally, in that amount of time, I would have already fallen asleep again; but the storm changed things.
“Hey, you alright now?” Jack whispered once the storm had ended.
“I… I think so.” I answered
“You’re sure?” He asked. I nodded slowly
“Alright.” Jack stood up and then placed me down on the bed “Lay down then.” I listened, and layed back down in my bunk. My brother pulled the blanket over me , and gently kissed my forehead. He was about to walk back to his bunk, but I sat up and grasped his arm before he could. “What’s wrong?” He asked
“I… I still don’ think… I don’ think I can go back to sleep.” I whispered, slightly embarrassed
“What do you mean?” Jack asked, moving to sit on the edge of my bed again
“I… I just can’t stop thinkin ‘bout… ‘bout the Refuge.” I answered, looking down at my hands. Jack didn’t answer right away; he seemed to think for a moment before speaking again.
“Hey, ya know you ain’t goin back there right?” Her brother asked, gently making me look up at him. “I won’t let that happen.”
“Yeah. I know… but still… I keep thinkin ‘bout what happened when I was there.” I responded.
“Well…” Jack hesitated again before saying “Look. I… I know it’s hard sometimes… believe me, I do. But, you need to sleep, Piper.”
“I know.” I looked down again. I was embarrassed more than anything else. I was fourteen and I couldn’t sleep after a little thunderstorm.
“What do ya wanna do?” Jack asked.
“I…” I sighed “I dunno. I… I’m sorry… you can go back ta sleep if ya want. Ya don’ have to stay up.”
“Oh no. I ain’t goin ta sleep ‘til you do.” Jack responded, keeping his voice soft, but still firm enough for me to know there was no arguing with him. “What do ya wanna do Pipes?”
“I…” I hesitated, thinking for a moment before whispering “Stay with me? Just for tonight?” I saw my brother grin before he whispered back to me
“‘Course.” I gave my brother a small smile in return and moved over to make room for him on the bed. Jack climbed under the blanket with her and draped an arm over her waist. I snuggled up close to my brother and rested my head against him.
“Night Pipes,” Jack whispered.
“G’night Jack,” I whispered back. Soon, I felt my eyes starting to close, and before too long I was fast asleep; curled up beside my brother.
PART TWO:
You opened your eyes and looked around, confused as to where you were. The last you remembered, you had been in your home with your parents and servants. Then you hit your head on the stone wall and passed out. Now… You seemed to be in some kind of a forest? That was confusing… There was no forest near your home. The only forest you’d ever seen was the one near your family's home you took on holiday. You stood up and the first thing you noticed was your clothes. What happened to your dress and petticoat and your shoes! Instead you were wearing pants made out of a blue material, and your top was covered with fabric that didn’t even reach your elbows! How immodest! Your shows also confused you. They covered the same amount of your foot as your normal shoes did, but that had string on them that seemed to be the only thing holding them together! What on Earth was happening!?
Brushing yourself off, you start to walk in a single direction, hoping to find a village or someone who can help you find your home. It feels like you’ve been walking for hours and hours when you see buildings!
A village! You thought to yourself They can help me find my home! Once you saw the village, you started to run knowing that soon there would be people who could help you.
As you entered the village… You’re confused. There are no castles, and when you see the road. It’s not made of dirt! It’s made of some kind of stone… And there are no horses on the street. All you see are carriages that seem to be moving all by themselves!
“What is this witchcraft!” You exclaimed as one of the moving carriages almost hit you. Just before it does, someone pulls you backwards and you fall. You look up to see a girl who looks to be about your age. She’s wearing clothing similar to yours, but her pants stop near her knees. Even more immodest than your clothes!
“Woah there! Are you alright there?”
“Yes. Yes I believe so. Thank you Miss…” You trail off, realizing you don’t know this girl's name.
“Uh.. My name’s Calindra… And you are?”
“I am Miss Elizabeth Anderson of London, England.” You respond, standing as properly as you can in these weird clothes. “Pleased to make your acquaintance Miss Calindra of… Where might we be?”
“Uh… San Antonio… Texas?”
“Pleased to make your acquaintance Miss Calindra of San Antonio Texas.”
“Umm.. Are you sure you're okay.. Elizabeth was it?”
“Excuse me! You will address me as Miss Elizabeth! How dare you.”
“Right then… Miss Elizabeth… Where did you come from?”
“I told you, I’m from London, England. I woke up in that forest and I’m looking for my family.”
“Oh, are you guys here on vacation?”
“What is a…. Vacation?”
“You know… Um.. A holiday?”
“Oh, no! I don’t know where they might be or why I showed up in the forest.” You answer
“Okay then… Um, hey why don’t we go and get you cleaned up. Looks like you’ve had a long day and you’re kind of a mess and it’s pretty hot out here and all so..”
“Oh yes! I can’t be seen looking like a common peasant! What would mother think if she saw me now!” You exclaim, noticing your appearance in a nearby window pane.
“Right… Yeah, let’s get you cleaned up.” Then Calindra takes you inside and you hope you’ll be able to find your way in this strange new world.
PART THREE. I’m using mine and my friends Percy Jackson OC’s Alora and Alyssa:
Alora walked out of the Demeter Cabin, fingering her bracelet that turned into her weapons as she walked towards the dining area with the rest of her cabin. When she got there she half-listened as Chiron gave announcements, but her ears perked up as she heard the centaur announce that there was going to be a capture the flag game tonight. She and the rest of the campers cheered. Capture the flag was awesome! She listened as Chiron read off the list of teams. She was glad that she and her friend Alyssa would be on the same team!
Alyssa listened to Chiron as he announced that there would be a game of capture the flag and cheered along with the rest of the campers as the centaur began to announce the teams. She cheered when she heard that the Persephone campers would be on the same teams as the Demeter kids. Her friend Alora was a child of Demeter and she was glad that she wouldn’t have to fight Alora.
After dinner, the two teams met in different locations to discuss strategy and things like that. The team that Alora and Alyssa were on (Which included about six other cabins) met in the sword training arena.
“So,” Emily, the head Demeter camper said “Any suggestions as to where we should hide the flag? We need somewhere the other team either won’t think of looking in, or where they might think to look, but they won’t be able to attain the flag at the spot. Alora thought for a minute…
Where’s a place that they won’t think to look… Or where they’ll be able to find the flag but not get to it… She drew a blank.
Alyssa listened to Emily’s criteria for where they were going to hide the flag. That the other team would either never think to look for the flag there. Or that when they did look there, they wouldn’t be able to find it and/or get to it.
Where is there a place like that? She thought I mean, there has to be one somewhere… Just not quite sure where.. The fifteen year old (Along with the rest of her team of like six other cabins) thought long and hard for a place in their territory that could house their flag. When suddenly, it occurred to her!
“Did Chiron ever say cabins were off limits?” She asked
“Did Chiron ever say cabins were off limits?” Alora hears her friend ask
“No. I don’t think he ever specified that.” Emily answered “Why’s that?”
“Well, we could hide the flag inside one of the cabins!” Alyssa exclaimed
That’s a really good idea actually! Alora thought as Emily nodded and took the idea in.
“You know what Alyssa… That just might work! We’d definitely throw them off by having it inside instead of outside like normal. And if we put it in the most random cabin we can think of, there’ll be no way for them to guess which one it is! Even if they realize that it’s going to be inside! And that’s a big if!
Alyssa grinned as Emily praised her idea. After some more discussion, they decided to put the flag in the Hermes cabin because there was so much space in that cabin and so many things that the flag could be hidden inside or underneath.
“Okay, Alyssa, Alora, Damon, and Katie are going to go and hide the flag in the Hermes cabin. The rest of us are going to go into the forest and look for the other team's flag. Are you ready? Ok! GO!”
“GO!” Emily screamed. As soon as she did, Alyssa, Damon and Katie ran towards the Hermes cabin, the flag rolled up inside Alyssa’s backpack. Once the group reached the cabin, they ran inside and started looking for somewhere to hide the flag.
“Ideas Damon?” Alora asked, “You are the Hermes camper here. You should know good places to hide things.”
“Well well well, I do indeed know the perfect spot to hide the flag. And the other team will never even know because none of them live in the Hermes cabin.”
Will you just show us the hiding spot already!? Alora thought, frustrated
“Oh my gods Damon!” Alyssa exclaimed, tired of the wait “Just show us where the heck this hiding spot is!!! At this point we’ll get caught with the flag literally in our hands!”
“Okay, okay, geez!” Damon muttered, raising his hands in the air in a show of mock surrender. “Look, over here there’s a hollowed out part of the wall.”
“Why do you have a hollowed out part of the wall!?” Alyssa exclaimed incredulously “What do you use it for!? What possible use do you have for a hollowed out wall!?!!!”
“Chill out Alyssa,” Damon said. Alyssa did, a little bit. She took a deep breath and asked again, slightly calmer this time
“I am calm. But I need to know. Why do you need a hollowed out wall in the Hermes cabin?”
“Umm… No reason.” Damon muttered, grabbing the flag and opening the hollowed out piece of wall “We may or may not use it to… A, scare people when they come in the cabin and aren’t expecting it and B, hide stuff for when we do pranks… So that people can’t find the evidence. But I’m neither confirming nor denying either of those claims!”
“My gods Damon… Just… My gods.” Alyssa sighed, facepalming at the absolute craziness that occurred in the Hermes cabin
If I don’t, the memories haunt me while I’m awake and they make it difficult to do anything; I’m too busy trying to force myself not to dwell on the memories for too long. I tried my best not to let the boys see how much the storms scared me, and I had succeeded in that effort ever since I had gotten to the lodge. That is, until now.
It was a cold spring evening in 1898. It was a little bit after eleven o’clock and me and the rest of the boys in the lodge had just gotten into bed. There had been a lot of clouds so Jack and Crutchie were downstairs instead of on the roof like normal.
I was just starting to fall asleep when I heard the rain start against the window by my bed. I bit her lip nervously, silently praying that it would just be a normal rainy night. I can sleep through those. I wasn’t so lucky though; soon after, I heard the first clap of thunder and saw the first flash of lightning.
I gasped and pulled my blanket tighter around myself, as though that could stop the storm. I took a deep breath and closed my eyes to try and calm myself. That was a mistake as almost instantly I began to see images from my stay in the Refuge. I let out a small whimper and my eyes shot open and there was another clap of thunder, louder this time. Tears began to stream down my cheeks and try as I may I couldn’t stop them. I tried my best to be quiet, I didn’t want to wake up any of the boys.
I clenched my fists as the thunder sounded once again. As it did, I slowly sat up, being as quiet as I could. I wrapped my arms around myself and my breathing began to quicken. My tears continued as I unwillingly remembered everything Snyder had put me through while I was at the Refuge. After another couple of moments, I heard a soft voice from my right.
“Hey, Piper, whatsa mattah?” I flinched and whipped my head to the side. In the dim light that the moon offered, I could see Jack crouched beside my bed, looking worried.
I didn’t answer him. I couldn’t… “C’mon, what’s wrong?” Jack asked again. I still didn’t answer, I could only squeeze my eyes closed and flinch after another crash of thunder and flash of lightning. That was all it took for my brother to understand. “Oh, Pipes.” That was all he said before he sat on the edge of the bed and pulled me into his arms. I leaned against him as he began to gently rub up and down my back and whisper softly in my ear, trying to calm me down. “Shh… you’re alright. It’s okay… It’s just a storm Pipes.”
“I… I k-know it i-is.” I whispered back, still trembling, “I j-just hate ‘em.”
“Yeah. Yeah, I know. I know.” Jack murmured softly, “It’ll be okay. Ya gonna be okay.” I flinched again as the thunder sounded once more, and Jack began to comfort me again. After a minute or so, he gathered the thin blanket tighter around us and wrapped his arms tightly around me. I leaned my head on my brother's shoulder and tried to focus on what he was saying, instead of the storm that raged outside.
The two of us stayed that way for about another hour until the storm had passed. Normally, in that amount of time, I would have already fallen asleep again; but the storm changed things.
“Hey, you alright now?” Jack whispered once the storm had ended.
“I… I think so.” I answered
“You’re sure?” He asked. I nodded slowly
“Alright.” Jack stood up and then placed me down on the bed “Lay down then.” I listened, and layed back down in my bunk. My brother pulled the blanket over me , and gently kissed my forehead. He was about to walk back to his bunk, but I sat up and grasped his arm before he could. “What’s wrong?” He asked
“I… I still don’ think… I don’ think I can go back to sleep.” I whispered, slightly embarrassed
“What do you mean?” Jack asked, moving to sit on the edge of my bed again
“I… I just can’t stop thinkin ‘bout… ‘bout the Refuge.” I answered, looking down at my hands. Jack didn’t answer right away; he seemed to think for a moment before speaking again.
“Hey, ya know you ain’t goin back there right?” Her brother asked, gently making me look up at him. “I won’t let that happen.”
“Yeah. I know… but still… I keep thinkin ‘bout what happened when I was there.” I responded.
“Well…” Jack hesitated again before saying “Look. I… I know it’s hard sometimes… believe me, I do. But, you need to sleep, Piper.”
“I know.” I looked down again. I was embarrassed more than anything else. I was fourteen and I couldn’t sleep after a little thunderstorm.
“What do ya wanna do?” Jack asked.
“I…” I sighed “I dunno. I… I’m sorry… you can go back ta sleep if ya want. Ya don’ have to stay up.”
“Oh no. I ain’t goin ta sleep ‘til you do.” Jack responded, keeping his voice soft, but still firm enough for me to know there was no arguing with him. “What do ya wanna do Pipes?”
“I…” I hesitated, thinking for a moment before whispering “Stay with me? Just for tonight?” I saw my brother grin before he whispered back to me
“‘Course.” I gave my brother a small smile in return and moved over to make room for him on the bed. Jack climbed under the blanket with her and draped an arm over her waist. I snuggled up close to my brother and rested my head against him.
“Night Pipes,” Jack whispered.
“G’night Jack,” I whispered back. Soon, I felt my eyes starting to close, and before too long I was fast asleep; curled up beside my brother.
PART TWO:
You opened your eyes and looked around, confused as to where you were. The last you remembered, you had been in your home with your parents and servants. Then you hit your head on the stone wall and passed out. Now… You seemed to be in some kind of a forest? That was confusing… There was no forest near your home. The only forest you’d ever seen was the one near your family's home you took on holiday. You stood up and the first thing you noticed was your clothes. What happened to your dress and petticoat and your shoes! Instead you were wearing pants made out of a blue material, and your top was covered with fabric that didn’t even reach your elbows! How immodest! Your shows also confused you. They covered the same amount of your foot as your normal shoes did, but that had string on them that seemed to be the only thing holding them together! What on Earth was happening!?
Brushing yourself off, you start to walk in a single direction, hoping to find a village or someone who can help you find your home. It feels like you’ve been walking for hours and hours when you see buildings!
A village! You thought to yourself They can help me find my home! Once you saw the village, you started to run knowing that soon there would be people who could help you.
As you entered the village… You’re confused. There are no castles, and when you see the road. It’s not made of dirt! It’s made of some kind of stone… And there are no horses on the street. All you see are carriages that seem to be moving all by themselves!
“What is this witchcraft!” You exclaimed as one of the moving carriages almost hit you. Just before it does, someone pulls you backwards and you fall. You look up to see a girl who looks to be about your age. She’s wearing clothing similar to yours, but her pants stop near her knees. Even more immodest than your clothes!
“Woah there! Are you alright there?”
“Yes. Yes I believe so. Thank you Miss…” You trail off, realizing you don’t know this girl's name.
“Uh.. My name’s Calindra… And you are?”
“I am Miss Elizabeth Anderson of London, England.” You respond, standing as properly as you can in these weird clothes. “Pleased to make your acquaintance Miss Calindra of… Where might we be?”
“Uh… San Antonio… Texas?”
“Pleased to make your acquaintance Miss Calindra of San Antonio Texas.”
“Umm.. Are you sure you're okay.. Elizabeth was it?”
“Excuse me! You will address me as Miss Elizabeth! How dare you.”
“Right then… Miss Elizabeth… Where did you come from?”
“I told you, I’m from London, England. I woke up in that forest and I’m looking for my family.”
“Oh, are you guys here on vacation?”
“What is a…. Vacation?”
“You know… Um.. A holiday?”
“Oh, no! I don’t know where they might be or why I showed up in the forest.” You answer
“Okay then… Um, hey why don’t we go and get you cleaned up. Looks like you’ve had a long day and you’re kind of a mess and it’s pretty hot out here and all so..”
“Oh yes! I can’t be seen looking like a common peasant! What would mother think if she saw me now!” You exclaim, noticing your appearance in a nearby window pane.
“Right… Yeah, let’s get you cleaned up.” Then Calindra takes you inside and you hope you’ll be able to find your way in this strange new world.
PART THREE. I’m using mine and my friends Percy Jackson OC’s Alora and Alyssa:
Alora walked out of the Demeter Cabin, fingering her bracelet that turned into her weapons as she walked towards the dining area with the rest of her cabin. When she got there she half-listened as Chiron gave announcements, but her ears perked up as she heard the centaur announce that there was going to be a capture the flag game tonight. She and the rest of the campers cheered. Capture the flag was awesome! She listened as Chiron read off the list of teams. She was glad that she and her friend Alyssa would be on the same team!
Alyssa listened to Chiron as he announced that there would be a game of capture the flag and cheered along with the rest of the campers as the centaur began to announce the teams. She cheered when she heard that the Persephone campers would be on the same teams as the Demeter kids. Her friend Alora was a child of Demeter and she was glad that she wouldn’t have to fight Alora.
After dinner, the two teams met in different locations to discuss strategy and things like that. The team that Alora and Alyssa were on (Which included about six other cabins) met in the sword training arena.
“So,” Emily, the head Demeter camper said “Any suggestions as to where we should hide the flag? We need somewhere the other team either won’t think of looking in, or where they might think to look, but they won’t be able to attain the flag at the spot. Alora thought for a minute…
Where’s a place that they won’t think to look… Or where they’ll be able to find the flag but not get to it… She drew a blank.
Alyssa listened to Emily’s criteria for where they were going to hide the flag. That the other team would either never think to look for the flag there. Or that when they did look there, they wouldn’t be able to find it and/or get to it.
Where is there a place like that? She thought I mean, there has to be one somewhere… Just not quite sure where.. The fifteen year old (Along with the rest of her team of like six other cabins) thought long and hard for a place in their territory that could house their flag. When suddenly, it occurred to her!
“Did Chiron ever say cabins were off limits?” She asked
“Did Chiron ever say cabins were off limits?” Alora hears her friend ask
“No. I don’t think he ever specified that.” Emily answered “Why’s that?”
“Well, we could hide the flag inside one of the cabins!” Alyssa exclaimed
That’s a really good idea actually! Alora thought as Emily nodded and took the idea in.
“You know what Alyssa… That just might work! We’d definitely throw them off by having it inside instead of outside like normal. And if we put it in the most random cabin we can think of, there’ll be no way for them to guess which one it is! Even if they realize that it’s going to be inside! And that’s a big if!
Alyssa grinned as Emily praised her idea. After some more discussion, they decided to put the flag in the Hermes cabin because there was so much space in that cabin and so many things that the flag could be hidden inside or underneath.
“Okay, Alyssa, Alora, Damon, and Katie are going to go and hide the flag in the Hermes cabin. The rest of us are going to go into the forest and look for the other team's flag. Are you ready? Ok! GO!”
“GO!” Emily screamed. As soon as she did, Alyssa, Damon and Katie ran towards the Hermes cabin, the flag rolled up inside Alyssa’s backpack. Once the group reached the cabin, they ran inside and started looking for somewhere to hide the flag.
“Ideas Damon?” Alora asked, “You are the Hermes camper here. You should know good places to hide things.”
“Well well well, I do indeed know the perfect spot to hide the flag. And the other team will never even know because none of them live in the Hermes cabin.”
Will you just show us the hiding spot already!? Alora thought, frustrated
“Oh my gods Damon!” Alyssa exclaimed, tired of the wait “Just show us where the heck this hiding spot is!!! At this point we’ll get caught with the flag literally in our hands!”
“Okay, okay, geez!” Damon muttered, raising his hands in the air in a show of mock surrender. “Look, over here there’s a hollowed out part of the wall.”
“Why do you have a hollowed out part of the wall!?” Alyssa exclaimed incredulously “What do you use it for!? What possible use do you have for a hollowed out wall!?!!!”
“Chill out Alyssa,” Damon said. Alyssa did, a little bit. She took a deep breath and asked again, slightly calmer this time
“I am calm. But I need to know. Why do you need a hollowed out wall in the Hermes cabin?”
“Umm… No reason.” Damon muttered, grabbing the flag and opening the hollowed out piece of wall “We may or may not use it to… A, scare people when they come in the cabin and aren’t expecting it and B, hide stuff for when we do pranks… So that people can’t find the evidence. But I’m neither confirming nor denying either of those claims!”
“My gods Damon… Just… My gods.” Alyssa sighed, facepalming at the absolute craziness that occurred in the Hermes cabin
Cedar blinked open his eyes. He couldn't see anything, although the light was an exception.
Bright, blinding light. It was so unlike something that Cedar had seen recently. He tried sitting up, but found he couldn't. He felt a vague pain in his left leg, but other than that nothing happened.
Then he tried to recollect himself. The boat flooded. It probably sunk. Am I dead? he struggled to keep his thoughts straight, afraid he might lose them to the storm, as he had lost everything else.
“Wake up, idiot.”
He recognized the voice. Cedar was awake, just not in the way he had expected. “Aww, Ruby, shut up,” he complained as the world came into focus. It didn't seem like a world at all, even. He grunted as he sat up and gazed around.
“Is this heaven?” Kiwi said, from her sleepy voice Cedar determined that he had not been the last to awaken. “I don't think so,” Ivy said, brushing the sand off of her pants as she stood up. “It's some sort of beach, I think.”
“My leg hurts,” he groaned. It did indeed, throbbing and burning with pain. The beach lay before them, with a broken mast embedded in the sand.
“We’re shipwrecked,” Ivy said faintly. Kiwi paused to think. “I read about this in a book once.”
“Did they escape?”
“Only two of them. The rest died,” she explained, but stopped quickly when she saw the other’s sickly expressions. “We’re going to die?” Ruby said, her voice catching in her throat.
“Nobody’s going to die,” Ivy said firmly. “Let’s consider our options. What can we do?” She began counting off on her fingers. “For one, we can pull ourselves together. Actually do something, instead of sitting here and complaining,” she said with a glare at Ruby. She pretended not to notice.
“Okay,” Cedar said with a deep breath, “We can check out where we are, explore the perimeter. We’re bound to find a town eventually. If we really are stranded on an island, like Kiwi thinks, then at least we’ll have that important info.” Ivy nodded as she counted off another idea on her fingers. “Yes, there could be people here,” she agreed.
“We could die,” Ruby suggested, “Given our circumstances, it really can’t be all that hard.”
“Good idea,” Kiwi agreed, although she was on her knees in the sand, drawing with her fingers. She likely hadn’t been listening, but Ruby had a point.
Cedar was tossing a seashell around in his hands. “Yes, Ruby, you’re right. Dying here is all too easy, which is why we have to try extra hard to survive.”
Ivy stood up. “It’s only dawn, which means we have an entire day to figure out what the heck we’re doing here.” Cedar nodded, then stopped when he attempted standing.
He let out a yelp of surprise, then collapsed on the sand. “I can’t walk,” he explained, “I think my leg might be broken.”
“Well I feel just fine,” Ruby said.
A pained look was on Ivy’s face when she said, “Sorry, Cedar, just wait here. We’ll be back in a few hours.”
“What?” He exclaimed. “You can’t just leave me here!” We can, Ruby mouthed as she followed Ivy away from the beach. Kiwi followed.
He flung the seashell into the sea. “Some friends you are,” Cedar muttered. “I’ll probably be eaten by seagulls or something.”
He waited for a few minutes, then groaned. “Stupid, stupid, stupid. It’ll all stupid.”
A bird flew overhead, chattering excitedly.
“Stupid bird,” he spat. The bird turned to Cedar and cocked its head. “That’s right, feather-brain, I’m talking to you.” The bird soared away, then after a few moments came back and circled Cedar in a taunting way.
“You think you’re so smart!” He said, yelling now. “You think just because you can fly, that makes you better than me! But no!” Cedar stood up, and hardly felt the pain in his leg at all, only rage.
Rage that pulsed through him, emitting a furious aura. Sure, it was stupid, trash-talking a bird, but he didn’t care. They were shipwrecked on an island now, nobody was here to push Cedar back. He could do whatever he wanted.
It was probably a good thing, too, because Cedar probably would have had his mouth washed out with soap if his mother had been there, watching. Then again, she wasn’t, so he was safe.
But who can ever truly be safe, stranded and shipwrecked on an island?
