Google Glass

Here is their website.

I'm assuming you just clicked the website above so I don't have to explain anything. And if you didn't you're such a rebel. I like you.

Anyway, opinions? Is it the “Next big thing” or is it just gonna flop facefirst on the cold, hard, marketing ground? Would you actually buy one?

Is it the next big thing: yes.
Would I buy it: not at this price.
The way I see it, Google has to add its own cellular radio, and bring the price down so that it's in the range of a high-end smartphone with a subsidy bringing it to around $200 with contract. Then I'd go for it. The current Glass Explorer Program price is $1500 I believe. But that's way too much to pay for a device that isn't even standalone. If it could be brought down to $600 unlocked/$200 with contract I'd be pretty happy with it. Also, I'd like to see true unlimited come back for this device, and if anyone could pull it off it's Google. Quite simply, there aren't really ways to go through data at the rate that providers have to be concerned about. I could see these as being glorious for audio streaming (spotify, pandora, Google Music) but doing the kind of web browsing or video watching that sucks so much bandwidh on iPhones or Android wouldn't be easy. I'm not fully aware of the resolution of screen on Glass, but I can't imagine it being too high. That means that video streaming for hangouts and stuff wouldn't be straining on the network either.

Right now it's a concept… a half built piece of design… like that website lol

The only thing I don't like about it, is that it doesn't work for people who wear glasses, it's unappealing for people who don't wear glasses (me), and it doesn't protect your eyes in a practical way like sunglasses…

It is a very interesting concept, but yeah, it's way too expensive right now as it's more of a novelty. All it's good for is for hands free photos and videos and quick voice-Googling - I wouldn't pay $1500 for that. Hopefully they'll pave the way for companies to produce their own wearable glasses, creating competition and lowering prices. And even then it'll still be a novelty for quite a while - think smartwatches.

You know yesterday I read about this guy who built his own ‘Google Glass’ using $200 glasses with screens on them from Amazon, and DIY stuff. Ended up being about $400 for the whole thing, and it's powered by Raspberry Pi.

Yeah, and for some reason people choose to buy bookshelves when they could easily carve one themselves with a free tree trunk and a 40 dollar knife! People are so wasteful

And jewelry! My Tiffany's bracelet is only made with 80 dollars worth of silver! What's the deal with that!

In 2018, I asked the Scratch Team to remove all my forum posts to protect my privacy. That's why this post is blank. Besides, I've outgrown this website, and I don't want the dumb things I said in my late tween/early teen years to follow me around for the rest of my life. This post probably wasn't anything interesting or important, anyway.

Maybe people like proofs-of-concepts ohai demoscene

Maybe.
