I've noticed that since about Saturday this site has has been having significantly less activity. I've been getting about 90% less messages, the projects I have recently released only have about 2 views at best (and one love/favorite by myself), and I just haven't really been seeing much going on in general.
What's going on? Is this because it's Christmas and people are more focused on spending time with their families, because 3.0 is being released soon and people are already leaving, because it's winter break now and a lot of the kids who use Scratch for school can't currently use it (I've heard that over summer break Scratch also becomes less active), or is it just the fact that some of my friends who almost always look at my projects are slightly less active now? Or is it all of these/something else?
It's not just my more recent projects that I haven't seen getting attention lately. Even some of my more popular projects haven't really been getting any loves, favorites, comments.. I don't even think they've been getting views.

Is anyone else experiencing this? I know Scratch isn't about fame.. but it's really not what I'm used to.

Hmm, I can agree, and it probably has to do with all of the reasons you stated. Kids may only have access to Scratch in school, people want to spend time with their families, or they are on vacation, and I've seen that some people have decided that they will “boycott” Scratch because of 3.0…

A combination of all the things you mentioned. It's been a bit of a whammy this period.

The trend is that users don't often go on during major holiday events (Christmas and New Years in this case). Regarding 3.0, I think the case is more that users are waiting for 3.0 to roll out (same lull we experienced when we about to roll out 2.0). We expect the activity to pickup in January, because that's when when 3.0 rolls out and when school resumes.

It is usually in September-October because all the Americans are on vacation.

I think it's just a Christmas holidays thing. In my own circles I've seen quite a few users choose to leave the site until the holidays end- I didn't even go on yesterday myself!
I've also heard that some users find it easier to go on scratch during school days rather than at home due to parental restrictions and school computers so those users likely aren't on the site around this time.

Since it's after Christmas, I assume it should start going back to normal pretty soon. I wasn't as active yesterday as you guys may have known, that's mostly because I was at the family's house.
At least Christmas was pretty fun.
