Ludum Dare 29
Hello everyone! It seems like a new Ludum Dare is just around the corner! Ludum Dare is a game jam, where thousands of programmers around the world work to create their own video game in 48 hours for the “compo” (competition) and 72 hours for the “jam.” I've participated in three Ludum Dares so far: LD24: Evolution, LD26 Minimalism, and LD27 Ten Seconds. The upcoming event is LD29, for which the theme is unannounced. In the final week before the event, there will be theme voting, and the final theme will be announced at the start of the jam.
You're allowed to use any language you want for Ludum Dare. I personally have used Java my first time and C++ the past two times. While previously C++ has meant I only have Windows support, I hope to develop in Linux and have Windows/Linux compatibility for this year. However, there's no reason why you can't use something else, like GameMaker or Scratch!
This jam runs on the weekend of April 25th, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Hope to compete with you guys!

awww it conflicts with FRC championshipAre you going? That's cool! I knew you were a hopeful but I didn't remember that it was official.
For me I have a conflict with my school's prom that weekend, meaning it'll take out 12 hours (lock-in afterwards) plus a night of sleep away from my dev time. I hope I can still manage to finish a game in time, though!

I'll probably do the jam, as this is potentially my first time.
I won't do anything big, probably just something in RenPy.
Fortunately, the jam occurs in school holidays for me, so I'll have plenty of time to work on it.

Im planning to do one at some point in the summer. I'll probably be using JavaScript and the HTML5 canvas element, although I would also like to learn WebGL.

BUMP.Sounds interesting, but sadly I don't think it would be wise for me to participate this time. It seems like it would be a really fun theme to work with but with school as it is and prom taking a big portion out of my work (and more importantly, sleep) time, I don't think I should compete this event. I just don't feel like this is the weekend where I want to work 24/7 and I'd end up going for 35 hours or so sleepless if I wanted to keep up the approximate 24h of development time I estimate I get during a usual competition. LD30 is going to happen for me, though!
Beneath the Surface
Good luck to all participants, I'll certainly still be here to playtest and give feedback if you want!
Edit: Maybe next weekend or something I'll set aside time for me to do my own game. Then again, I should probably study for my AP Computer Science exam. Then again again, (repetition intended) what better way to study than by doing nothing but programming for an entire weekend? I guess I'll do LD29.1 in Java next weekend.
(AP Computer Science currently uses a Java curriculum, so if I was going to spend that much time in immersion right before the test it'd be better for me to do it in Java. Just like it would be dumb to be coming back from France after speaking French the entire weekend right before a test in Spanish. It's similar, but if you're not careful you'll slip up and do the wrong one. Also this is a very long statement in parentheses)Last edited by 16Skittles (April 26, 2014 01:11:34)

I was disappointed that the theme wasn't “Time Does Not Exist” or “You Are Your Own Enemy”. Anyway, my game is around half done. Appropriate for the second day (I woke up half an hour ago.)
