My family recently switched from a slow (about 750Kbps, often unreliable, but unlimited ISP to a satellite ISP that is significantly faster but we only get 20 GB of high-speed data (up to 25Mbps) with an additional 50 off peak hours. After using the high-speed data up, we are slowed to about 1-3Mbps. I want to stretch the high speed data as far as possible. Any tips?

I was also thinking about Free Download Manager. Anyone know about it?

Wow, I didn't know you could get satellite internet! (Do you mean KBps and MBps or Kbps and Mbps?)

Use a blocker like uBlock Origin if you don't already, and avoid regularly clearing your cache.

Yep. It's pretty cool. However, it does introduce some latency, and since so much traffic has to go through one satellite, they usually have a data limit (ours is not hard, though).

Yep! I'm going to make sure everyone does.

Only stream video at lower qualities would probably be the biggest difference for me personally, but otherwise 20gb seems pretty good as long as you don't download larger programs/games often (as a single game can be 20gb+). Facebook/etc can eat data though well

Setup a pihole in your house to blackhole dns requests to tracking domains.

Update, a couple of months in:
Well, it looks like we burn through our high speed data pretty fast (only a few days of it, that is). However, apart from the latency, it is faster than our previous service (750Kbps vs 1-3Mbps on F.A.P.).

Ironically, within about a month of our subscription starting, we learned that a new ISP is going to be available in our area, offering unlimited data at 25-100Mbps with either a cable or fiber connection (I'm not sure which–it's just getting started). After our two-year plan expires, we will probably switch to that (it's also cheaper).

I suggest you to make your numbers, cancel your current subscription and move to that new ISP could be cheaper in long time terms.

Will do, but it will be 12-18 months before it is fully rolled out, so the contract may expire before then.
I'll know more about it tomorrow.

So it looks like it will be a fiber backbone with radio to the end user, with eventual fiber to the end user.
It looks like it could be very good! They are going to have fiber within a quarter mile of my house even!
