We had a great year guys! I'm so honored that I was given the chance to work with such amazing and talented people <3. Thank you for choosing me, Candy, as I had an incredible time leading a cabin <3. (Off-topic, I think you should find that trustworthy person (or your motivation xD) by the end of March or beginning of May next year so that they can get the camper sign-ups out for a month/ a month and a half.)

Thank you guys so much for letting me be a part of this! It's been so much fun, and I made so many new friends. I really hope the whole Net Neutrality issue doesn't affect the next camp. I don't want to lose amazing experiences like this.

This was probably the best thing I ever decided to do in November. I had so much fun being a leader again, and it really helped me with my novel. I love our little group we have here, both competitive and helpful at the same time. Big thanks to Candy for organizing the camp, and Ender for really taking the lead when Candy couldn't. Everyone here definitely deserved to be a leader, no doubt about that. I had so much fun working with so many gifted writers. I'd love to do it again next year, so I hope you're feeling up to it by then Candy. If you ever need anything, I'd be happy to help.

Hey guys, really quickly, can you please tell me if there's anything you'd like to change for the next SWC? Anything you'd want to add? Anything that you'd want to get rid of?

Scratch Writing Camp 2017- Leader chat

Hey there, leaders! (and Candy, she’s probably roaming around here somewhere xD) You’ve all been chosen because of your remarkable applications, and because Candy/I believe that you’ll make wonderful leaders. To those who don’t know me, I’m Ender, and I’m ecstatic to be able to host SWC this year. It’s always been a wonderful experience for me, and I’d love it if you could help me make it an amazing experience. There are a few matters I need to address first, though. (This is probably going to be a long post XD)
One more thing: there are quite a few questions scattered here that I am in need of your responses. I’ve numbered them (and made the numbers bold), so you could find them easier, and so I could tell your answers to each question apart. I still strongly recommend reading through all of this to achieve a thorough understanding of what camp will be like this March, instead of just answering the questions. Also, only the previous leaders need to answer the first two questions, to those who haven’t lead before, just skip those.
(Also Snowy, you have to answer too, I want your opinion on this xD)
Some questions to begin
1) Previous leaders, would you want to lead your same cabins as you did in November, or would you prefer new ones? 2) Also, would you want the same color as last time for the thumbnails, or a different one?
3) Can any of you code a multiplayer project? I’m planning to introduce word wars again, but this time include a project that actually lets you connect with someone else, instead of having to comment and waiting for a reply. I’ve looked at a few multiplayer engines, but haven’t really found any that fit my idea of what the project should be. Any ideas?
4) Can you guys tell me the top three genres you’d be willing to lead? Of course you don’t have to write the same genre as your cabin, but it does help when you do, since you’d be more comfortable there.
Also, here are a few things that I’m planning to change/add in this camp:
  • As you probably have seen from the leader applications, there are now going to be only seven cabins: Realistic Fiction, Historical Fiction, Science Fiction, Dystopian, Adventure, Fantasy, and Mystery. There will be around 10-15 people per each cabin, so I strongly suggest that each of you grab a co-leader. (Except Snowy, you’re mine xD). The remix tree’s here, if any of you’d want to check it out: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/194104725/remixtree/
  • As I said earlier in this massive post, I’m planning to bring back word wars. I’m thinking to make it be worth points, so that people could earn more points for their cabin while writing a bit as well. However, you can only do word wars once a day for points, and only if you win will you get the 100 points.
  • Surprise, cabin wars are back! Last time, they were too word-costly, and a bit stressing (*cough cough poem cabin cough cough*), so this time the word count is lower. 5) I’m toying with the idea of making there a limit of how often a cabin can be cabin-warred, thoughts on that? (Sample: Write 500 words in 3 hours, or else your cabin loses 500 points!)
  • So, looking over the schedule for last session, and the summer one, I’ve realized that the summer one was focused more on word sprints/crawls, and the November one was more focused on writing activities. I’m going to try to find a happy medium between them for this camp, so that the people who really want to write can find to motivation to do so, while taking a few breaks in between to develop their characters/universe a bit more. I’m thinking of having word crawls be on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday (At least two of the three), and word sprints be scattered across the week. I think having the option to word war someone is also helpful for people who don’t want to participate in the activities.
  • I’m also planning to include some type of typing championship. (ahah puns, some type of typing competition? I’m hilarious lol) It’ll take place on the 17th-18th, and basically there will be two representatives of each cabin (the two fastest typers). They’ll go in a race on play.typeracer.com, (Four races of three people per race, plus a one-on-one race). The winners of those will go in either a race of three people, or of two. The winners of those then go head on in the final, and the winner of the entire thing earns 3000 points. I don’t really know if I should make it a private thing, so just the people who participate know about it, or if I should make it public (to the entire camp), since people who didn’t get to participate might get jealous… 6) What do you guys think?
  • The writing contest will be opened earlier. (like we planned last time ) At the 7th, to be precise xD. Anyways, I’m thinking of making there be a few more categories. Perhaps not as many as we had in the summer one, but definitely not just 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and honorable mentions. I’m also thinking of making the writing contest earn more points, just so that people can really be motivated to write their best writing. 7) Any categories?
  • Also, I’m adding writing buddies again, but only if people want motivation from others. For example, someone could comment in their comment “Anybody want to be my writing buddy?”, and somebody would respond, and give them deadlines to meet. (Deadlines from other people always help with motivation). For example, “Write 500 words of your novel in an hour, and send it to me through a discussion post to prove it.” or something like that. 8) However, would you prefer to assign writing buddies to everybody in your cabin?
  • Finally, 9) do any of you think that these are too many opportunities to earn points in the main cabin? If so, can you tell me which activities to cut out and why?
Some questions you might have: (or probably don’t, but I’m too lazy to format this info a different way)
Q: Are there still going to be pep talks?
A: Yes, of course! I’d love for the leaders to give some, but perhaps some people outside of camp could give a pep talk.
Q: How many campers are we estimated to have?
A: So far, there’s about 74 people I have to notify for camper sign-ups (assuming none of the people on the list are going to be co-leaders). I doubt many other people will see the sign-ups, since I don’t have as many followers as Wavey or Candy (both candies xD), but if we do get it top-loved or something, I think our camper number will soar.
Q: Are you going to be including Contemporary cabin in as well?
A: Yes, in the rare occasion in which we have 119 campers.
Q: Am I required to get a co-leader?
A: No, as stated earlier, however, I strongly suggest that you do. In the summer one, there were about 2-4 leaders per cabin, and around 20 people. Leading 10-15 people all by yourself might be tough, especially if you want to notify your campers about new opportunities to earn points.
Q: Will I be able to make my own thumbnail?
A: Yes, of course! I don’t have any preferences for fonts or stuff like that, just make sure to stay with your assigned color (which will be assigned to you once all the previous leaders answer one of the questions above). I’d appreciate it if you spent some time creating it. Make it inviting, so that people actually want to be part of your cabin.
Q: Do I have to make a promo?
A” No, however it would be extremely appreciated if you do, since I’d like to gain as many campers as possible this session.
*IMPORTANT INFO PLEASE READ AT LEAST THIS*
Q: So when’s this all starting?
A: Camper sign-ups are going to be up February 1st. I need all of you to get your cabins made and ready by then, and I’d prefer if you’d have decided if you need a co-leader by then as well. To the leaders who believe that they won’t be active enough, or that this is too overwhelming (or something along those lines XD), please talk to me on my profile, and I can make you a co-leader instead of leader, or just derive you of your leader status entirely. This is supposed to be a fun and exciting experience, and I’d hate for it to stress any of you out. However, I hope none of you have to leave, since you’re all amazing, wonderful, and talented people. <33.
In conclusion, I need you people to get your cabins done by February first, sharp. I’d also appreciate to hear your thoughts on the changes and stuff (especially CLG, if she’s checking out this post). Don’t be afraid to tell me that one of my ideas is horrible, we’re a close community here . I’m so ecstatic to host this upcoming SWC, and I think you guys will do a phenomenal job leading your cabins. Can’t wait to see your responses! (By the way, this entire post is 1,530 words xD)

XD this looks great, I can't wait to see how this camp plays out! The only thing I'm a tad unsure about is the typing competition- I think it's an interesting idea, and I have no problem if you try it (you're running it, after all), I just have some doubts as to how it's going to work.

I'll go through and answer anything I have an opinion on later, I'm just a tad preoccupied at the moment so I'm keeping this short. XD

Btw, I recommend @Florafeather and @Eaglelily as co-leaders, @florafeather has lead in absence of @Cherryblossom_11 before, and @Eaglelily is so eager to help out and would do anything you ask of her.

Hey, I didn't mean that xDD. Yeah, I'm still debating whether or not I should let the leaders participate (if I do it at all). Oh Candy, would you mind answering the questions (sometime)?
